When I boot up my mac the volume settings are not preserved. The volume is always set to 50% of the max volume when I boot up. I've run repair permissions and Onyx, but this did fix anything. Is it time to reinstall Snow Leopard? I am hoping my time machine backup doesn't remember these obscure settings or problem files.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm not sure if this is just me or if everyone experiences this but I usually shut down my computer when I'm not using it for long periods of time. When I boot up my computer it will remember the settings I have for the internal speaker but when I plug in my headphones it always goes to 3/4 volume which is way too loud for me. Is there a way I can get it to remember my headphone settings too?
View 7 Replies View RelatedDoes anybody know if the WinXP - Boot Camp - Cirrus Audio issue has been resolved? My new MBP has WinXP Home Ed installed. Initial problem was that the volume was very low even with max setting. There was also a 'red light' coming out of the audio jack like a laser pointing device. After some searching in forums, i found a fix wherein i manually changed the Cirrus driver setting (turning off the optics and re-calibrating the volume limit). However, this seems to be a short-term solution only, because there is still a faint crackling sound emanating from my internal speakers whenever i'm running Windows in BC. I'm running SL 10.6.

When trying to connect to my home wireless network, my computer doesn't recognize my network, or any network as being accessed before. It doesn't remember any networks. I even went into the advanced settings and made sure to check the box that makes it remember networks, and it still doesn't remember them. I am able to connect to my home network manually, but it will not automatically connect when I open the lid after it being closed, or when I turn off the wifi and turn it back on.

My system has randomly shut down twice now in the last two days. Dual G5 2.3. I checked the console log, which I know very little about, and it said this:

Two questions-
what's the -122 code mean?
Do you think resetting the PMU would be the solution to this?
I have a Mac Pro and not too long ago I swapped from a fat, heavy and filthy white Apple Keyboard to a new skinny silver one. I like it, and also love that the F7-9 Skip Back-Pause/Play-Skip Forward keys work for iTunes, even when another app is active (what's the word I'm looking for - in focus or whatever). But I use Optical output, so the volume keys (F10-12) don't do anything. I know that, when iTunes is the active app, I can command-+/- to change the volume, but I'd love to be able to map the F10-12 keys to do that - without having to have iTunes active (playing, but not the active window).
View 1 Replies View RelatedRecently, my newer (last year) iMac probably running 10.5 started speaking and wont shut up... there is no obvious way to turn it off. I usually figure problems out myself but there are no system preferences that effect it. I even changed the voice in preferences as a test and it is still the same guy reading everything clicked in all applications except when I am in system preferences so far. Usually when I run into a dead end like this there is some mystery key command that works... anyone know?I also noticed that some of the top line (f) keys are not doing what they are supposed to any longer as well... volume up opens the window for expose & spaces it looks like and does not control the volume monitor brightness controls are not working either... I went to the key and mouse preferences and set the key strokes to default and still the same.
View 6 Replies View Related I have my imac apart right now and replaced the internal HD as it was not working. I assume the problem is the new one is not formatted with OSX, so from the INSTALL CD I opened the disk utility and see only one drive called "MEDIA".? Or is that just part of the install dvd that looks like a HD? In the system it shows as not formatted, 0 bytes. When selected in Partition it says :
"This voume is the startup volume and cannot be erased. Size 7.1 GB The disk is not writable and cannot be partitioned"
So i guess thats not my new HD I am seeing? Other than that there is only the two OSX install CD icons.
I was wondering if anyone knows how to do this- it is a pita to adjust separate volume controls on everything. If I adjust the volume on the keyboard, the volume slider in itunes doe snot move. If I set the volume on itunes with a mouse, then come home and use the volume controls on my keyboard, I have to also manually adjust the slider in itunes. Anyway to link the two?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently decided to increase the volume of my bootcamp disk, which I had done in the past using a method which ultimately made the disk unrecognizable. This time around I used Winclone to create an image of my bootcamp disk. I was not sure exactly how Winclone worked and to be safe I decided to keep the Bootcamp disk I had, and I created a third partition of a larger volume to which I restored the bootcamp image. Everything worked fine obviously, and the image was restored correctly to the new larger volume. The dilemma is I had two bootcamp disks, so I erased the smaller volume because I no longer needed it. Currently I am trying to restore this empty space within the main disk to the Macintosh HD. Disk util looks like:
I know I can just create a backup of the macintosh HD, another image of the bootcamp disk, and format the disk and start over, but I am hoping there is an easier way to go about this; considering there has been a method engineered such that I can just drag that corner of the mac HD and voila I have instantly more storage after applying, it seems viable that there is something that can be done rather than formatting my disk, unless the necessity for that of course was overlooked. Â

When I use the F11, 12 buttons, the pages go away or the dashboard comes up. I've tried to change the settings but that didn't work either

I have a G5 Duel 2GHz Power PC, Recently I was losing the time, date and wireless settings so I assumed as my machine is now 4 years old the PRAM battery was up for renewal.This has now been replaced but I'm still losing my settings, not all the time but randomly, sometimes I lose my wireless key sometimes I lose time and date sometimes both, this can happen daily.
I have removed the (New) Battery and checked the voltage and it reads 3.6 Volts, I haven't checked this under load though, so presuming that the battery is OK, what else could cause this.. a failing System Board?
I have had my MacBook Pro now for a little over 2 yrs and I was very frustrated I could not change any print options in any application. I know that the Triangle button expands print options screen but when I do, I have only two print choices. It gave me Standard or Page Attributes in Office and any other App it is Standard and Last used settings. I can't print in Draft, Best or other setting because it does not even give them as a choice. I have two high end color photo printers, Canon i9900 and Epson Photo series and an old HP830 series. Any app I tried to print from and the same thing. I tried to capture the options on the choices but it would not grab that part of the image but here is my screen shot. I searched many forums and I still get the same answer so something else is not letting me change things so I figured best to ask since I am a 20 year win user now switched to Mac. Well right after I posted this question, my wife found the answer. I never though to check the application NAME in the print setting screen. Example, in the screenshot I am using Preview. I never thought to hit the up/down arrow next to the Preview label and wouldn't you know, that is were the quality and several other settings were. I felt pretty stupid that it took 2 years to figure this out but if I posted the answer maybe someone else will not have to take as long as I did to change their print quality!

View 1 Replies View RelatedI was using my MBP when I noticed that the display (the built in one) looked a little washed out. To make sure my color profile was set to the correct one, I opened up the display panel in System Preferences. The moment I opened it, the display snapped back to its regular appearance. As far as I can tell, it goes into the washed out version after going to screensaver and coming back, and going into display prefs is the only way to restore it. Anyone seen this before or know how to keep it from doing this?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI just started having some problems with my late 2006 24" iMac and they're still happening after updating to 10.5.7. I think the problem centers around Front Row because Disk Utility reports disk permission errors related to Front Row. Repairing permissions is reported as successful but the problem still persists. For whatever reason Front Row stopped working the other day. Nothing (Command-Escape, Rowmote ln my iPod Touch, etc...) would get it to launch. I tried reinstalling Front Row and no dice.
Then yesterday I had an instance where my iMac wouldn't restart of shut down. I was forced to hold the power button down to fix it. It happened again today. I couldn't restart or shutdown but everything else seemed to work except Front Row and there was a spinning beachball when I moved the mouse cursor to the top right-hand corner of the screen (where some of the menu items are). Before forcing a reboot by pressing the power button this time I thought to check the Console. Here's what I saw, essentially repeating, over and over:.....................
I just tried to logout and shutdown my laptop but apparently it doesn't let me. I can log out. I can sleep. I can shutdown but it won't do both at the same time. The pc laptop I just got automatically logs me out when it shuts down/sleeps.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've heard a few different point of views one this. I've heard its better to shut down because you won't be using energy then and not as much stress on component. I have also heard its better to sleep because of the energy required for boot and when you shut down and start up, the heating and cooling of the components make the contract and expand which will put stress on them. Power isn't one of my major concern, my major concern is which will make a Mac Pro last longer. With an SSD as the boot drive, it won't need as much power as a mechanical drive so I don't need to worry about that. Which is better? Also, which do you prefer?
