I've been having this problem for a couple months now. When I use headphones or external speakers my MBP volume gets stuck at one level. When this happens my volume buttons don't work. Everything seems to be fine (according to apple), but I still can't fix it. There is no red light in the audio jack & all of the audio settings seem to be normal. I've used CCleaner to repair permissions with no luck, I've called AppleCare twice with no luck, I've reinstalled my entire OS with no luck, and yet this all seems normal. Does anyone know what the problem is? Apple says its something wrong with my OS and they left me out to dry with no solution. I'm open to anything...that won't void my warranty.Oh and I've also done the PRAM reset and it worked for about five minutes...without even plugging in headphones after it was "fixed".

I have a Mac Book Pro. The keyboard controller for my volume does not work. It is stuck on full blast and when I try to lower the white image comes up on the screen showing that it is fullblast with a white circle and and a line through it. Also, when I try to lower it on the top right of my screen it is on full blast and will not let me slide it down. I tried shutting down the computer and then holding command+option+p+r until the start up sound to reset the PRAM but nothing happened.

I'm not sure if this is just me or if everyone experiences this but I usually shut down my computer when I'm not using it for long periods of time. When I boot up my computer it will remember the settings I have for the internal speaker but when I plug in my headphones it always goes to 3/4 volume which is way too loud for me. Is there a way I can get it to remember my headphone settings too?
View 7 Replies View RelatedMy macbook doesnt save the headphones volume, I've already saw a thread talking about it but they only sugested erasing plist files and reseting pram, done both even re-installed os x and nothing.. When I plug the headphones the volume get's set to 50% and it gets really loud

I've restarted my computer to factory settings, but for wahtever reason, it has been stuck on the blue screen (similar to what you see when you turn on a mac) and refuses to go beyond that. Does anybody know why this mite be happening??? did i do something to mess it up??? (earlier i restarted it when it first hit the blue screen because i thought it froze or something). Is there something i can do to fix this problem?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a late 2006 Mac Pro 3Ghz dual. Recently the volume dropped down to nothing and when I access the control panel, I see the mute button checked on all outputs except the digital (the one I have never used). All inputs are also muted and I cannot uncheck any of them. The little volume indicator is sitting in the lower middle of my screen and won't go away.
I have tried:
Zapping PRAM
repairing permissions
trashing the sound pref
using a different account
multiple restarts and shut downs
unplugged and re-plugged both the headphones and line out
And none of it has worked. The sound indicator shows up with the startup screen and never goes away and I have no sound. If I drag the volume slider up, it just goes back down. I am guessing this is a failing motherboard, being that I have lost my "A" RAM slot, but I really hope not. This is going to be unbearable to live with.
snow leopard likes to my volume setting and always defaults to the middle setting with each startup. is there a way to keep my setting?
View 2 Replies View RelatedDoes anybody know if the WinXP - Boot Camp - Cirrus Audio issue has been resolved? My new MBP has WinXP Home Ed installed. Initial problem was that the volume was very low even with max setting. There was also a 'red light' coming out of the audio jack like a laser pointing device. After some searching in forums, i found a fix wherein i manually changed the Cirrus driver setting (turning off the optics and re-calibrating the volume limit). However, this seems to be a short-term solution only, because there is still a faint crackling sound emanating from my internal speakers whenever i'm running Windows in BC. I'm running SL 10.6.
View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen I boot up my mac the volume settings are not preserved. The volume is always set to 50% of the max volume when I boot up. I've run repair permissions and Onyx, but this did fix anything. Is it time to reinstall Snow Leopard? I am hoping my time machine backup doesn't remember these obscure settings or problem files.

I was wondering how I can move the Applications folder of my boot volume to another drive? The 'other' drive is an ExpressCard SSD as I want to take advantage of its speed. I used to run SL from it but I keep having this stupid problem. So the next best thing is to run frequently used files from the SSD in hope that it works fine. Btw, unfortunately I cannot simply create a symlink to my boot volume as I cannot remove the Applications folder from it.
View 6 Replies View RelatedOn two of my computers (iMac and Mac Mini -- both recent and both running Lion), the login screen often gets stuck. I click the user to login or start typing a password and the computer just stops responding. The only thing that fixes it is raising and/or lowering the volume (in either order, but it's the volume that does it). Once the volume is changed, the system goes back to normal and the letters I typed appear (or rather dots do -- this is the password field after all). Very occasionally it will get stuck twice during the same login.Â
This is obviously a huge issue logging in remotely because I can't get the volume keys to work via screen sharing (or at least I don't know how to).Â
This happened almost immediately upon setting up the systems, so I don't think there's a third party app issue at play.Â

View 10 Replies View RelatedI have been backing up my computers to an external HD with Time Machine for some time, but I just bought a 1Tb Time Capsule today. Is there a way to move/copy my existing TM backups to the new drive (in the Time Capsule), rather than starting a whole new backup, so that I can preserve my existing TM 'history'? I could just start a new backup, but it would only back up the 'current state', and I would lose all the prior data.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI purchased a new hard drive, my second Samsung 750 GB. My first one is partitioned, half for OSX half for Vista. Ultimately, I want to have a hard drive per operating system.
At first I thought the way to go for this, based on some stuff I read here on Mac Rumors was to use winclone to clone the windows partition, restore it to the new drive, and then I don't know what.I did the restore, there were errors in the log though..something about the wrong kind of partition. Basically it's become a pain in the ass, and I'm thinking there has to be an easier way.
It occurred to me, I might be able to use "Install and Archive" to move the boot volume to the new disk, moving the user files and network settings with it. If I did this would I be able to expand the windows partition using winclone utilizing the full hard drive? Or could moving the boot volume to the new disk mess up my Windows partition?
I just got a macbook pro. I installed some apps. I opened the applications folder from the dock and I attempted to drag the icon to the dock to create a shortcut there. My finger came off the track pad and the icon snapped over to the far upper left corner of the desktop. It's in the corner under the apple symbol on the menu bar. It's a transparent white square with a question mark in it. If I clicked on it it would open the app it's linked to. But I can't move it or delete it. If I right click a small window comes up showing the path to the app momentarily. I tried uninstalling the app and rebooting no luck. Looking in the desktop folder shows nothing. It looks stupid and it blocks the x-out of any app that is open full size.
View 12 Replies View RelatedHow do I move my e-mail, settings, folders etc. from the Windows Mail application in Vista to Mac Mail? I've exported everything from Windows Mail and tried importing it to Mac Mail, but the only options I have are to import from Thunderbird, Eudora, Entourage and a few others. Windows Mail isn't listed. I've heard Entourage can handle that, but has anyone had experience with doing this? Most of the searching I've done on this subject pertains to Outlook and Outlook Express.

So I went ahead and wiped the old MacBook Pro clean and then used Migration assistant from the MacBook to move all of her documents and settings. Needless to say this was the easiest migration I have ever done to a new system. And I am extremely happy that I work in an environment is mostly made up of Macintosh computers. So while all of you here know that Migration Assistant is the best, I am mostly writing this thread for those who do not yet own Macintosh computers

I'm using iMac with magic mouse. My mouse cursor now stuck in top left corner and cannot move. I've tried to reset the pvram by pressing option+command+P+R
I also tried to power off 15 sec and restart, seems useless also. Now i cant use my imac at all.

My Macbook is currently stuck booting up in windows 7. My shift key also appears to be stuck so holding the Option key when booting up to choose a start up disk isn't an option (it doesn't work). I do not currently have access to an external keyboard. I do have the startup disk. I'm wondering if I can use the startup disk to reset the systems startup disk? Are there other options?

I have had my MacBook Pro now for a little over 2 yrs and I was very frustrated I could not change any print options in any application. I know that the Triangle button expands print options screen but when I do, I have only two print choices. It gave me Standard or Page Attributes in Office and any other App it is Standard and Last used settings. I can't print in Draft, Best or other setting because it does not even give them as a choice. I have two high end color photo printers, Canon i9900 and Epson Photo series and an old HP830 series. Any app I tried to print from and the same thing. I tried to capture the options on the choices but it would not grab that part of the image but here is my screen shot. I searched many forums and I still get the same answer so something else is not letting me change things so I figured best to ask since I am a 20 year win user now switched to Mac. Well right after I posted this question, my wife found the answer. I never though to check the application NAME in the print setting screen. Example, in the screenshot I am using Preview. I never thought to hit the up/down arrow next to the Preview label and wouldn't you know, that is were the quality and several other settings were. I felt pretty stupid that it took 2 years to figure this out but if I posted the answer maybe someone else will not have to take as long as I did to change their print quality!
