Windows On Mac :: XP BootCamp - Volume Very Low With Max Settings

Nov 24, 2009

Does anybody know if the WinXP - Boot Camp - Cirrus Audio issue has been resolved? My new MBP has WinXP Home Ed installed. Initial problem was that the volume was very low even with max setting. There was also a 'red light' coming out of the audio jack like a laser pointing device. After some searching in forums, i found a fix wherein i manually changed the Cirrus driver setting (turning off the optics and re-calibrating the volume limit). However, this seems to be a short-term solution only, because there is still a faint crackling sound emanating from my internal speakers whenever i'm running Windows in BC. I'm running SL 10.6.

Windows On Mac :: Erased BootCamp Volume - Reinstall Windows?

Aug 30, 2010

So I thought I was a know it all and thought I could remove my Windows partition without reading the instructions. Typically one would do the following:
1. In Mac OS X, quit all open applications and log out any other users on your computer.
2. Open Boot Camp Assistant, in the Utilities folder in the Applications folder.
3. Select "Restore the startup disk to a single volume" and then click Continue.

However, I messed it up. Instead of going through Bootcamp assistant, I went through Disk Utility and "erased" the Bootcamp volume. Now I am not sure where I at? I erased it, but you can still see the Bootcamp volume listed. And now when O try to use Bootcamp assistant to remove the partition I get the following:
The startup disk cannot be partitioned or restored to a single partition. The startup disk must be formatted as a single Mac OS extended (journaled) volume or already partitioned by boot camp assistant for installing windows. I want to reinstall a Windows, but want to start fresh.

Windows On Mac :: Low Sound Volume Under Bootcamp?

Aug 26, 2009

So I've been following the MBP forum for their Audio Volume issues because we seem to have the same problem. Check out their issues here: [URL]

There is also an apple discussion here. [URL]

I have a Late 2008 MB running both Leopard and Boot Camp with Windows XP pro SP3. Under boot camp it uses the RealTek driver for the sound card. It is putting out very low volume. Many people have posted similar problems with Vista and windows 7.

Here's the test I did to confirm. I made a 1kHz test tone audio file and played it out of OS X. I connected the output of my headphone jack to a volt meter and measured a little over 1V or 1000mV. I switched to Windows and played the same file. This time I measured 280mV. This proves that the RealTek driver is not sufficient and does not measure up the full potential of the Macbook.

I've called apple on the issue and they say that it is not their problem and they do not support it. Even though they advertise that Windows is fully functional under boot camp. The solution for the MBP was that someone modified the INF driver file. Unfortunately, Apple uses a different chip in the MB and this solution will not work. I tried it.

Windows On Mac :: Resizing BootCamp Partition - Extend Volume

Aug 5, 2010

I am trying to resize the bootcamp partition on my iMac. I opted for the 32gb option when I first ran bootcamp but I wanted to add more. I read online I could do this my shrinking the Mac HDD and then creating a new partition FAT32. Then open up windows and open up disk management. Then right click my bootcamp hdd and click "extend volume." however, that option is greyed out. Am I missing something or is there some other technique?

Windows On Mac :: Bootcamp - How To Delete A Previous Volume On Startup Disk

Feb 4, 2009

I'm retrying to install windows on my mac. It's the second time I'm trying, but it has somehow become way harder. The first time I installed Windows, everything worked perfectly, untill I noticed that SP2 wasn't installed, and I couldn't install it on my windows, somehow.

Now I'm trying it with a different version of XP (Pro), but Bootcamp is giving issues. I haven't deleted the old volume/partition (don't know the difference) of windows yet, as it is installed on my startup disk and Disk Utility won't delete it .

MacBook Pro :: Not Remembering Volume Settings

I'm not sure if this is just me or if everyone experiences this but I usually shut down my computer when I'm not using it for long periods of time. When I boot up my computer it will remember the settings I have for the internal speaker but when I plug in my headphones it always goes to 3/4 volume which is way too loud for me. Is there a way I can get it to remember my headphone settings too?

Mac Pro :: Switch Boot Volume Or Move Bootcamp Partition To New Drive?

Jul 19, 2008

I purchased a new hard drive, my second Samsung 750 GB. My first one is partitioned, half for OSX half for Vista. Ultimately, I want to have a hard drive per operating system.

At first I thought the way to go for this, based on some stuff I read here on Mac Rumors was to use winclone to clone the windows partition, restore it to the new drive, and then I don't know what.I did the restore, there were errors in the log though..something about the wrong kind of partition. Basically it's become a pain in the ass, and I'm thinking there has to be an easier way.

It occurred to me, I might be able to use "Install and Archive" to move the boot volume to the new disk, moving the user files and network settings with it. If I did this would I be able to expand the windows partition using winclone utilizing the full hard drive? Or could moving the boot volume to the new disk mess up my Windows partition?

This is my first post here... even though, I've read a lot of the things on this forum, but never decided to post a question 'til now... now that i bought a macbook pro that is.

Actually I have some sort of annoyance with boot camp. It works as it's intended (with windows 7, which is a miracle, because everyone complains about that combination). But whenever I boot up and press "alt" to select the hard drive i want to boot, it always shows Windows. Can i change it for something else? and, how can I do it? Both of my partitions have names of their own... they're not generic... but still, they are not working, what can I do??

Basically, I'm looking for a stable profile or some recommended settings you've been using to overclock your 9600 in bootcamp. Maybe upload a screenshot like the one below with your custom adjusted settings for memory, core, and shader clocks. I'd rather not play around with it if someone has found a fast/safe setting that increases performance.

Windows On Mac :: BootCamp Fails To Make BootCamp Partition

Jan 23, 2009

I want to try out Windows 7. During this process though I deleted my winXP partition. When I went to create a new BootCamp partition in The BootCamp SetUp Assisstant, it failed to create the partition on my harddrive.

I was greeted with the error, "BootCamp SetUp assistant failed to yada yada yada, please backup and reformat your harddrive."

So my question is do I really have to reinstall Mac OS X? (I backup with TimeMachine so it won't be a big deal but still thats a very long process.) Do you guys have any tips or anything to get Mac OS X to partition my main HDD?

I'm assuming if you already have bootcamp 2.1 you boot up in boot camp and then insert the snow leopard disc in order to upgrade the drivers to 3.0 correct? OS X :: Creating An HFS+ Volume On A Windows HD?

Dec 7, 2009

I have a new 250GB HDD. I want to put it in a PC, create a 100GB NTFS partition and install XP. Then, I want to take the HDD out of the PC, connect it to my MBP using a USB adaptor and create an HFS+ volume in the remaining 150GB. Is it possible to do this and will OS X re-write the MBR/Partition Table such that the disk will still function as a Windows boot disk?

When formatting it initially would I be better to leave the 150GB as free space, or create a partition but not format it?

Alternatively, I could use Win7-RC rather than XP as, I believe, Win7 can use GPT. Would this be a better choice as GPT is the system used by OS X?

Windows On Mac :: Sound In Windows Vista (64bit) Not Working Right Under BootCamp 3.0?

Sep 24, 2009

Last night I installed Windows Vista to run a game on here, but I got several issues. I already installed the drivers from the Snow Leopard DVD, but the problems still persist.

The issues are:

1. Sound is very very low and uneven. I have the volume all the way maxed, but the loudest it can go is less than half than the potential volume in Snow Leopard.

2. Headphones don't work. I've tried like 3 pairs of headphones and none of them work. When I plug them in, the sound still comes from the left speaker (I can barely hear the right speaker) on the laptop and not on the headphones. Also, the headphone jack is emitting a red light out of it.

3. The lights on the keyboard won't shut off. I used the F5 key to turn off the keyboard backlighting, and while it goes very dim they won't shut off.

I already tried the suggestions on this thread but none of those fixes work. I need help! Especially with the sound! Anything at all would be greatly appreciated.

I'm running a MacBook Pro 13" from June 2009, 2.26GHz Intel, 4GB of RAM, and an Nvidia GeForce 9400M. I instlled a 64bit version of Windows Vista (OEM).
