So this time, I purchased a WD and migrated my system to the new drive sucessfully. I just wanted to see if anyone knew if the migrate function simply copies files or if it copys sectors of the hard drive. Basically I just want to know if Mac Migrate will copy the crap from the Samsung drive that might cause my new WD to act up - or if that's possible?

We have several hundred files that were converted recently to a different file format. The conversion process caused all the new files to have today's date but did not change the file names. I am looking for a way to pull the create/modify dates from the original files and apply them to the converted files so the new files will have their original dates. All of the original files had different dates, so I can't just apply a certain date to the converted files.

When I turned on my 13 inch Macbook this morning I got a black screen with the message "No bootable disk, insert startup disk and press any key". This has never happened to me before and I am wondering what the cause is and how to avoid it in the future. I got the system to start by pressing and holding down the option key.

I have a June 2009 17" 2.8 UMBP which has been driving me mad with near constant beach balls! I run no intensive programmes at all - just emails & surfing the net!
I originally used migration assistant from a Tiger MBP to this one & read that I may have corrupted Tiger P-Lists transferred over to my Leopard One. I would like to ask, how can I get rid of/delete my current preferences list to see if that fixes the problem - it did with another person who also transferred from Tiger to Leopard with Migration Assistant!
Will I lose anything by deleting the Preferences Folder/Files? I think I read somewhere that OS X automatically replaces them with current versions if that is correct? Ae Preference Lists taken care of too when deleting the folder/files?

I am wondering if there is a way to take an excel spreadsheet in numbers and change the format to alphabetical - the person did the list by DOB and that is just not helpful to me in finding clients?

View 16 Replies View RelatedSeems to be Firefox related, but I think it simply should not be possible within the Mac OS (10.6.8): I have used Firefox for years, but since I updated to version 13, this is what happens: My son has an account under parental control, and he is allowed to use selected applications one of which is Firefox Now after the update every time he launches Firefox, he gets a message he is not allowed to use it. Even when I enter my name and password to permit Firefox "forever" to launch, the message comes again... And again. If I select "once", Firefox launches.
And no matter what I try, as soon as there was one attempt to launch Firefox on my son's account, the related checkbox in the Parental Controls is unchecked again. So what is going on here? Could this be caused by a corrupted file (maybe containing the list of allowed applications), and how could I repair that?
Ever since I updated one of my work machines to Snow Leopard yesterday, I am unable to copy photos to the clipboard in Preview or similar apps. The option is grayed out. I usually do this to change icons, but I've had to use third-party apps to do this since the upgrade. I'm sure it has to do with permissions, but I'm not very well versed in that aspect of OS X yet.
