OS X V10.7 Lion :: How To Get Screen Sharing To Work Again
May 16, 2012
I have a mac mini server running OSX Lion 10.7.4 Until powring this down over the weekend, it had worked beautifully. I coould connect, access shared files, screen share (as I am running in head less) as well as access it via Server Admin from a remote computer.Â
After restarting, I can still share files, but am unable to access the sceen share or administer remotely. The odd thing is that when I connect it to my TV I can then also access it with screen share from another MacBook Pro as well as use server admin for remote admin. As soon as I run it headless again, I cannot access it via screen share.Â
I have noticed that the screen share finction has changed from before, so am wondering if this has anything to do with it.Â
I have not chnaged any settings on it. Firewall is the same as before, filesharing and screen sharing is enabled and I am trying to access it as a registered user.Â

Does anyone know of a way to enter full screen in Mac OS X's native screen sharing application? I recently purchased a new MBP and wanted to screen share to my old MB with all my "junk" on it. It would be handy to actually enter full screen as opposed to being restricted to a window sized screen.
If this isn't possible, anyone have a good recommendation for an alternative application?

I have been able to remotely log into my parents computer and after I type in their password I can see their screen and take control of their computer, so I know I can get a connection through to their machine. However, we cannot iChat, it will not allow us to connect at all.

I have a few Macs in my condo, and I'm able to connect between all of them with Screen Sharing/Remote Management with no problem. I recently bought a Mac Mini Server to use as a HTPC/Server with OSX Server installed. I can connect to any of my other computers FROM the server with Screen Sharing, but I can't connect TO the Mac Mini Server from any of my other computers. All of the settings seem to be correct and the same as my other computers. Does anyone have any ideas as to how to get this to work?

Whenever I try to use Screen Sharing to control this one particular Mac Mini, and someone else is using the mini, and I pick "Connect to Virtual Display", I get dropped to a grey linen screen. Like the login screen, but without a list of usernames or anything. There it sits. Here is what I see in the console of the mac mini when I try and use a virtual display from the other machine:Â
3/10/12 7:30:04.291 AM mds: (Error) Backup: Couldn't stat source path '/Users/glados/Library/Saved Application State/com.apple.finder.savedState/window_3.data' -- importing from backup path instead

I had read an article explaining how to configure a Windows 7 PC to print to a shared Mac printer (in Snow Leopard, but I assume it's the same in Lion).Â
So I shared the printer (an IP printer) on my Mac, then followed the instructions to add LPR Printing to Windows 7. I went to 127.0.0.1:631 and saw the CUPS page on my Mac, and the setup the LPR port on Windows 7 with the IP address of my Mac and the Queue name listed for the shared printer in CUPS. Unfortunately, when I enter the port info and click OK, it comes back with the error page listed in the article.Â
I've tried this on two different iMac's (a new 27" and a much older iMac with Snow Leopard). I also used three different Windows laptops (Windows 7 and Vista), and all three gave the same error. Basically, when I setup the LPR port, it cannot "talk" and confirm the settings with the Mac.Â
I've turned off Windows Firewall, tried basically everything I can think of (and I'm a tech, so I've tried a lot!). Anyone successfully printed to a shared Mac printer from a Windows 7/Vista PC? Â

After updating my new iMac to 10.7.4. My internet sharing suddenly doesn't work any more. I connect my ipad and iphone via the wifi. It will drop out after a very short time, about 10 seconds of Facetime, so I turn off the wifi, then the internet sharing then reboot everything but nothing seems to work. It worked perfectly in 10.7.3 but now I can't use the internet on my ipad.

'all of a sudden' (so it seems) my 2 printers in my network do not print printjobs from other macs in my network. It dit work. Nothing really changed, exept some system-updates.
print-share is on, awake out of sleep is on (network-tab). Really there is no reason that it would not work. Still, ... it doesn't.Â
config:
- imac 27" 2011, software updated
- macmini 2010, software updated
canon ip4200, works standard on imac. brother HL-2030, works standard on imacÂ
The charm of the set-up was that I could have my printers in the office and still print from the livingroom (mac mini)Â Â To try to solve the problem I moved the mac mini temporarily to the office, so I have it next to the imac.
Opening the section 'printers and scanners' and then pressing the '+' does however give me 2 differentviews:
- on the imac I get a sub menu, dropping down from the '+'
- on the mac mini I get a new window named 'add new printer' (this is hopefully the right translation - I am on a Dutch system)
This strikes me as odd. I never noticed this before. Maybe this is where the problem lies?Â

my Screen Sharing within my LAN isnt verygood. Its very stuttery and screen splintersa lot and doesnt update some things. My router is a 'G' router which should be able to cope with these things.also, the screen res on my Mini is slightly different to my MBP, which i use as the remote screen to control it and therefore the picture isnt as sharp. Can i make it as sharp as if i was looking at MBP stuff?

We have a Mac Mini connected to our HDTV, pretty much for media server duty only. No mouse or keyboard conveniently located as a rule for this rig. We use the excellent Rowmote app (mouse, keyboard and romote control) on our iPhones to control it and it works great most of the time. However, sometimes you need a real keyboard. Since we usually have laptops handy, Screen Sharing seems like an obvious workaround. However, it ALWAYS (and when I say ALWAYS, I mean going back to 2005) asks for the name and password regardless of and inspite of checking and rechecking "Remember this password in my Keychain" about a thousand times since Screen sharing was first offered on the Mac OS, right up to 10.7.3.Â
This pervasive bad behavior can also be duplicated verbatim on our kid's media Mac Mini also. This is not a big thing, but it doesn't work, and hasn't worked for a very long time (in computer years). Does anyone know how to simply click on the Mac Minis, click the "Share Screen" button and well, share screens without constantly being asked to type in a name and password every single time?

We have a vacation home with a Mac Mini installed behind a standard cable modem / router.I occasionally VNC using the Lion Screen Sharing function (Connect to Server aka Command-K,I have the ports open on my router, everything worked well up until today.I was having some redraw issues with Screen Sharing over the internet, so I thought I'd try another VNC client to see if that worked any faster / better. In Sharing/ Screen Sharing I enabled "VNC viewers may control my screen with password" (usually i just login with the user account of the machine with the built in client.
Anyway, I connected this way with COTVNC once and didn't like it, so uninstalled it and went back to use my built in Lion VNC app.Now the VNC session is crawling slow (10-20 seconds to register a click) and I've tried everything to get it back from restarting to turning screen sharing off and on, unchecking VNC viewers may control my screen with password... everything. It seems that COTVNC has crippled my VNC connection and I have no idea why. A google search came up with nothing, so I thought I'd come here. The weird thing is... it's not physically taxing the cpu or anything, becuase if I connect via teamviewer that is also installed that is snappy. It's only when I use VNC.Sure I could continue to use teamviewer, but I liked the response time using the native client. Is there a way to reset the VNC service or something to clear the cobwebs of COTVNC away?

I have installed the latest update that Apple posted a few days ago on multipl computers. It seems that after the update, screen sharing still works, but instead of bringing up the shared screen in about 5 seconds as it used to, it now takes almost 30 seconds. This has happened for me on two seperate networks so I believe it is not network related. Something in the Lion update seems to be culpret. My 10.6 server machines still can be shared fine.

iMac 2Ghz C2D
Both running 10.7.3
I am trying to connect from my macbook pro to iMac by using remote management with allow access for All Users but cannot get to connect from MBP to iMac. I can connect without problems from iMac to MBP. The macbook pro just sits trying to connect.
I check the log on the iMac and see the new entry appear during connect attempt of:
3/31/12 7:14:55.979 AM ScreensharingAgent: [CL_INVALID_DEVICE] : OpenCL Error : Failed to create context! Invalid device
Firewall turned off on both machines. I have created a new user on the Macbook to see if that could be the solution but still same occurrence.

I have an iMac (2gh Intel Core Duo) which I connect via USB to my printer (HP PSC 1500) when I go to print like this everything works fine. The problem is when I go to print from my MacBook Pro (2.4gh Intel Core 2 Due) wirelessly via my home network. I have turned on printer sharing on both machines and have the printer drivers installed on both as well.
When I got to print, I get the printer queue window open. It looks as though its trying to print and then I get this error message Fatal: opening printer connection failed, unable to open the printer connection, please check the printer connection and check the printer for errors
The status of the printer then goes back to ready but nothing has printed.
Both machines are connected wirelessly to an AirPort Extreme Base Station.

Home Sharing sounds simple enough. Has anyone got this to work? I have searched for documentation on how to set this up and Apple has only made a video mentioning how to do this. It is vague though and doesn't explain the context for set up.
http://www.apple.com/itunes/how-to/#video-started
For example. Does Home Sharing only work with one account? What if I have an iTunes account and my Wife has an account, does one of us lose all of our content when we share? You are supposed to be able to transfer content among all local shares. What happens next? Do I need to authorize each file to work on another computer/iPhone/Touch? I have not gone all the way with setting up Home Sharing as I don't want to go down a long path and be stuck at the end.

I am trying to share a DVD drive over my LAN. We have three computers.Â
I have an iMac, with DVD drive sharing enabled, without the requirement of asking me for permission.Â
I also have a MBP, with the same DVD sharing enabled, and a Mac Pro, again with the same settings (it has no DVD drive).Â
The iMac can see a disk in the MBP's drive and the drive is listed in devices.Â
But the MBP cannot see the disk in the iMac's drive, and nothing is listed in devices. Nor can the MP see the iMacs DVD device, and it can't see a disk in the MBP's drive.Â
So out of three, only the iMac can see DVD drives as devices.Â
Note that if on the MBP I mount a disk, and then access the MBP computer I can mount that volume. But it still doesn't show as a device, which is how it should work.Â
I have done all the usual stuff. All other network access is fine. No firewall issues. All on the same LAN, working over ethernet.Â

I'm the designated "IT Staff" for my family. I've created an account on the various family Macs that I support so I can use Back to My Mac and screen sharing. However, when I select a computer it tries to connect using my Apple ID by default. Is there a way to force it to use a registered account instead? When it connects via my Apple ID I can't log in to the virtual display (it locks up on the login screen)...

Things used to be simple with Leopard and XP, with the network browser working seamlessly like magic, detecting the XP within few seconds after it connected. But that's no longer the case. Since I upgraded XP to 7, automatic detection of the Mac side was going on and off, and folder access was also on and off, somewhat unreliable. Then I upgraded from Leopard to Snow Leopard, the automatic detection is completely gone, complete reliance on cmd+k now, and something strange happened . . .
I've figured out how to share Mac files with Windows, and it is working properly on the Windows side. The problem is the other way round, where I can get only some Windows folders shared and not some others. The settings are exactly the same, and that brings me to a dead end.

I tried to set up a home share between mine and my girlfriend's MacBooks. It worked okay both ways, but then I disconnected my ethernet cable and the connection dropped.
I started fiddling around and discovered that home sharing only works as long as any one of the two computers is connected to the router with a cable. The other one can be connected wirelessly. But it won't work if both are wireless at the same time.

I want to set the screen sharing on a iMac. It works fine when I enable the "Anyone may request permission to control screen" but I would like to use only the "password" option but it doesn't work. When I just set a VNC password and then try to connect via the "Screen Sharing" app, it keeps saying that the password is not correct. Which "login" am I supposed to use? When I use another client such as UltraVNC, it works. So how can I enter a password onl with the Screen Sharing app?
