View 2 RepliesI've recently made the move from a PC to a Mac, and so far, everything gone very smoothly. I got iWork with my Mac, and there is one problem that's bugging me; every time I open a word (docx) document in pages, it asks me if I want to keep the changes or discard them, and that is for when I am just reading them. When I edit them, and I go to save it, it keeps bringing up the save as box instead of overwriting the present docx file.
I've already installed any missing fonts I have in my documents. So, to summarize, my two main problems are: If I read a docx file, Pages acts like I made changes to it, despite the fact that I did not. If I edit a docx file, Pages keeps bringing up the save as dialog box when I try to save, instead of overwriting the original docx file. The same thing happens with Numbers and Keynote. I just need a temporary fix 'til I can get a hold of Office 2011.
Is there any way that I can get office 2011 for my computer or even just word 2011 for the ppc? The main reason that I need it is for the way one can read pages in full screen in word - I need it alot for debate.

I have downloaded an iTunes music file. After playing for 30sec it blocks and iTunes goes to the next track (the official duration is more than 2min)Â
Is there a way I can re-download the file?Â

If I encrypt an external drive using File Vault 2 (Lion 10.7.3) as a Time Machine backup from my current laptop, then later purchase a new laptop and attempt to read that encrypted backup, will there be any problems to consider? Â
1) I expect that, since the password will be stored on my current laptop, there would be a problem reading the password on a new laptop Â
2) I was told that opening a File Vault 2Â encrypted external drive would require the same laptop, as the encryption creates a match of serial numbers between the laptop and the encrypted drive.Â

I have Fusion installed on my Mac, and it's all updated and runs fine, and I'm trying to install a program off a Windows-only CD. The problem is the drive in my Mac doesn't seem to accept it. It just ticks a few times and spits the CD back out. Is there a way around this? I've already been high and low on the VMWare site and it appears the virtual machine is communicating with the CD drive just fine.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have Windows XP installed on my iMac via Bootcamp. When I use the DVD Drive to copy data to my hard drive, the whole computer seems to go into slow motion.
I'm in Device Manager and under the Advanced Settings of my Primary IDE Channel, the Transfer Mode is set to PIO, which I hear it shouldn't be? Should changing this setting to "DMA if available" correct the slow transfer speeds?
I recently bought a MBP 13" and plan to install windows XP SP2 on it via bootcamp. However, I've just read a few articles online about not being able to write onto the HDD while using windows xp since the partition would be formatted in ntfs? Does that mean I wouldn't even be able to install programs on my windows xp in boot camp??
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am in the process of pulling the data off of my collection of floppy disks. A lot of them are the really ancient 800K kind so I am using a Mac Classic II running System 7.0.1 to access them. The process is going well but occasionally I've run across a PC formatted floppy that the Mac won't read. It just says: This disk is not a Macintosh diskette. Do you want to Initialize it? So how do I give my Classic the ability to access these PC format diskettes?

How do you attach the file, even?
It says that it's an invalid file!!
I need to convert .pages into .doc. How would I do this?
How do I go about print specific pages from a file/PDF? Say I want to print random pages like page 5, 9, 14 that do not go in order so the print X to X pages doesn't work for me. Any way to do that without having to send the pages for printing individually?

Only problem is my school is entirely PC, and I didnt remember to save it for word.
I need a program that can convert a pages document to word or let me open it in another program on the PC.
I tried installing open office on the computer here at school but it wont let me. I should be able to install most other programs though.
When my professor asks me who I dont have it done I dont want to say because I use a mac. Well I do, but I shouldn't.
My Macbook pro just got sick! It now doesn't turn on, and the Apple Store says it will only be ready on Friday. I have a project to hand in tomorrow. The nice guy at the shop sent me the PAGES file I need, but now all I have access to is Microsoft Word. So, I am appealing to someone who has iWork to convert this PAGES file into .doc format, so I can try and hand it in tomorrow.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI set it as a .pdf, but its a .pages extension file, bc I couldn't attach as a .pages file. This is my term paper for this marking period and a conversion to a .doc file would help immensely. I am at my school and can't download any programs to convert.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm a recent switch from PC to a Macbook and I'm still getting used to OSX. I have iWork installed and I have noticed that since some of my professors continue to post documents in Word format, I can't open them on my computer. It will download the file but not allow me to open or view it.I'm sure its a simple download that I haven't heard of yet.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've searched extensively on this topic, and I'm pretty sure I am out of luck. However, my perfectly fine pages document from yesterday will not open today. The .xml file seems to be the problem; when I view the package, the index.xml.gz file won't "unzip" to an xml file, and if I just change the file extension, I get a garbled mess. Is there any way I can get the xml.gz file recovered? I am very sad. I will no longer be using pages because I can't trust it. What I have read on the 'net is very discouraging. Yes, yes, backup yes yes all that stuff. However, unless someone has instant simultaneous backup, this kind of thing could still happen - it was just one day, and I don't backup my files every day.

View 24 Replies View RelatedOne of my editors had starting using OpenOffice and when he sends files to me they arrive in a zip that, when opened has some games and other things and one png file that is a thumbnail of the document, very tiny.
Is there a converter for OpenOffice docs that will open them in Pages (my preference) or Word ?
Any familiar with OpenOffice? Is it necessary to receive a zip file every time from him? He's technically inept and perhaps I can just tell him how to export the proper file.
I have a large text file, and I'd like to turn each page of the text file into a slide in a presentation (PowerPoint, I guess, though I'm open to alternatives as long as they're cross-platform and idiot-proof). Is there any way to do this using OpenOffice or NeoOffice? The text file is currently in RTF (TextEdit) form, so I can easily convert it to .doc or PDF. Formatting should be maintained, but it's nothing too complex; just some boldface and centering. I'm looking to make cue slides out of the lines of a play. I have all the lines, and I can re-paginate it easily enough, but I'm at a loss as to how to make slides out of it. I don't have the time/patience to manually create hundreds of slides and paste in each line one by one.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have created a "newsletter" using Mac iwork Pages publication. The newsletter includes text and pictures. I would like to email it to over a hundred people so need it to be a small file. At the moment it is approx 3.2 MB. I tried compressing it to zip but it is still way too large. I downloaded Graphic Converter but cannot work out how to use it with Pages. Or is there an easier way?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm a complete noob when it comes to Pages (iWork'05), and I'm editing my first newsletter which is supposed to go out to 300 people by e-mail. However, when I export it to pdf, the file size is 22.8mb! For 6 pages!
I've chosen the Extreme newsletter template (red one), and I have 6 pages in total. The only reason I can think of why it's so big is that when i drag and drop photos into the photo-boxes, the image isn't scaled down at all, not even when I export it to pdf. Is that right? It's only about 1 or 2 photos per page, and I have two pages with three small photos and a larger photo at the bottom. Anyone got some insights?
