I'm trying to help out a co-worker who writes the company newsletter, articles for our base and local newspaper, as well as employee profiles and articles for various projects we produce at my job. This lady comes from a newspaper background and she's looking for a Mac-based program that somehow calculates word count and lets you write for a certain space/word count. Trust me, she's not visually-oriented (or particularly font/layout savvy) in any way, so the easier and more straight-forward something is, the better. I don't know if a program like this exists (and affordable one, at that), but to be honest, she always overwrites and guess who's the guy who has to sit with her and back and forth edit and trial and error stuff?
Also, Mac OS X-native would be very cool, as Sandy is on an iMac and being that she's not stuck waiting on Photoshop and stuff, she's been using OS X for the past month or so and now that our order of Office v.X copies are on the way, she will be one of those lucky people who will probably never have to launch Classic to get her job done: Word and Entourage are the only things she really uses. Anyone know of a program like I've described above? Are any of you from a newspaper/magazine background or environment with some suggestions or advice?
I have a Mac OS X version 10.5.7 i am working on Word 2008 for Mac, version 12.0.1 (080305).
My problem, i created one text box in a document, somehow 2 more appeared. I made the mistake of thinking that to delete the extra text boxes, i simply highlight them and delete them. Silly stupid me, nothing that simple exists and i have wasted an hour trying to figure it out. The help button does squat, barely gives you any info on a text box much less trying to delete it. Does anyone know how to delete a text box in a word document?
I recently just got a mac and having trouble opening a word document in pages. It would open but all the original tables, bars, and shadings done in word does not open. Its just opens in text and spaces... Ive also notice that in quick look I can see the original document in full but does not open in the way it was showed..?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm using MacBook Pro 10.5.8. I'm having trouble with microsoft 2004. When I select text from a portion of the document (like a paragraph) to change its property (like make it bold, or shift a block of text over by a tab), the whole document (everythiing else that i did not select) moves. This can happen to 200 pages! It's driving me nuts. It's also doing it to new documents. I have thrown away my preferences file: preferences/com.microsof.Word.plist; and restarted my computer but it keeps happening. I'm trying to finish a huge writing project with deadlines at the end of the week and it's making it really difficult to work.

One day, out of nowhere (maybe since Chrome 5.0 update?), I was not able anymore to highlight text. What I mean is that I can highlight the first line or the first three letters (depending on how fast I move on my trackpad). It seems like there is a timer. I have like 500 ms to highlight text and then it stops.
I thought it was Chrome because it seems I am not the only one :
But yesterday, I realised that the bug extended to Microsoft Word!
I don't know what to do anymore... is it a core problem?

I recently bought a MBP 13" and plan to install windows XP SP2 on it via bootcamp. However, I've just read a few articles online about not being able to write onto the HDD while using windows xp since the partition would be formatted in ntfs? Does that mean I wouldn't even be able to install programs on my windows xp in boot camp??

I have been working on a template where I have placed a two column table on the front page, left side being for a graphic for a letterhead, and right side column for text.
My problem is that on the second page, I would like the document to continue on without any table. I would like for the text to flow from the table into regular margin document on the second page. Is there a way to do this?

I have noticed a lot of disk activity reading and writing, it maxes out in bursts up to a couple of minutes at a time and overall seams to be reading and writing a lot of the time, with no processor activity at all. There is no obvious culprits in the activity monitor but terminal displayed large number of read and writes for mds, but spot light is not indexing (no dot in Mag glass) and this has been happening from months now.
Possibly longer noticed it when recieved replacement drive due to crook seagate, may have been doing this but could not hear it. Running last Snow Leopard on iMac 27 mid 2011 i7 custom with 8 gb of ram. also should note this unit has had load of issues Bad Ram, some software problems would not sleep (software) none of which have ever manifested on any of my other (older) macs. Also have noted that this drive activity does seem to coincide with using safari on occasion??

I went to go install Google Chrome but then the site reads:
"Your operating system is not supported.
Google Chrome is available for Mac OS X 10.5 or later, Intel only".
I have 10.5 or later and my mac is intel based.
I'm looking for a good and stable text editor to write a book in!? I don't like Pages that much because it's only a mediocre layout app, but in my opinion a bad text editor. Word on the other hand is better with text, but its interface is cluttered with superfluous menus and items that distract me.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI can't find a definitive answer to my question anywhere but i suspect the answer is no.With the Wacom Bambo (without the multitouch) can you annotate directly onto pdfs, keynote, pages, numbers / any similar program? My girlfriend bought one last year for her design work and would also like to do this without using the ink window - not really practical.
In the ink preference pane that appears when you plug in the Bamboo there is only an option that allows hand writing to be converted to text. This is not what she is trying to achieve. She wants it to be her handwriting and diagrams on documents without her having to use the ink window and paste her annotations work into the document and then have to position them - this isn't even possible with pdfs.
If this is not possible directly from within Snow Leopard, are there any programs that allow her to do this. She doesn't have Microsoft word and doesn't really want to have to start using that - cost implications.
i'm looking at moving over to the Mac in a couple days and i just need to know the best free Word Processor that can open .doc files. 99% of my docs made in Word are of the 97-2003 variety and not 2007's .docx.Â

I notice that when I have FF running for long periods of time, and I go to, for example, xbox.com to check out my friends list on the computer, often times the page shows up as plain text, no graphics or images or anything. Then I come here to create a post, and all of the buttons and formatting tools appear as plain text as well, instead of the images/buttons. I don't regularly visit a wide variety of web-sites, but the one I mentioned earlier seems to consistently trigger it. Usually the only way I can get pages to display correctly again (no matter where I try to go) is to completely quit Firefox and reopen it. I included a screen shot so you can see what it's coming up as, vs what it's supposed to look like. I've never had this problem with any websites as long as I've been using Firefox until just recently. [URL]

The trouble is that while some pages load fine, others do not display correctly or simply don't even load at all. The other computers on this network (all PCs) run fine, so I am guessing that it has something to do with settings on my computer, the router, or both.
