View 6 RepliesI'm a recent switch from PC to a Macbook and I'm still getting used to OSX. I have iWork installed and I have noticed that since some of my professors continue to post documents in Word format, I can't open them on my computer. It will download the file but not allow me to open or view it.I'm sure its a simple download that I haven't heard of yet.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a .zip/.pages file that I cannot for the life of me seem to unzip, open, or convert into a Word document (.doc/.docx).
Info:
MacBook, Mac OS X (10.6.8), Pages / Word
I have a:
Macbook Pro running Mac OSX 10.5.8
(Office 2008) Word, Exel, PowerPoint, (Iwork 2009) Numbers, Pages will not save:.
I tossed the Word Plist file and that did not work.
I have run Virus Barrier X5 and found a about 10 files with Virus 'W97M/Pinky.B' "Quarantened" them and still have the problem.
The problem started -- I think -- when I was doing heavy editing between Numbers and Word. But I don't think it is related (though who knows at this point). Without these programs I'm rendered pretty useless.
I work at a local public school district as a web designer, and today I received a .pages attachment from someone (person A) who needed the file on our web site.
There wouldn't be a problem except there are no Macs in our district with the latets iWork. And person A got it from person B, So there's no way for me to access it or have person A convert it themselves. Gah.
So, if there is anyone out there that would be kind enough to open this up and export it as a .doc or .pdf or anything usable on my PC
I have created a decent Pages document that I will be mailing out, but I also have the need to email it to my clients and maybe post it to a webpage. I know I can save the doc as a PDF and send it that way, but I was wondering if there is a way to convert the file to HTML and use that in my email and website. Anyone have a tool or tip on how to do that?
My Pages document has a small table of data and a graph.
It would take me a long time to convert by hand in some other HTML editor as I am not good at that.
I haven't found anything on internet about this, so how I had founded a solution, I want to share it.
One day, my Macbook White brokes and I needed to recover a curriculum, and it was in a .pages file. So I had to recover it in Windows, because I have no one who could convert it in Pages.
1 Rename .pages file and add .zip extension. That makes the content of the package visible with any zip utility, (in my case WinRAR).
2 Uncompress the package.
3 Go to QuickLook and search for Preview.pdf. That's a pdf file that contains a low quality version of your pages document. Almost all of the content is in index.xml, but It's very difficult to extract manually the information.
4 Convert the pdf file to doc with any pdf converter. For example: [URL]
5 If your document has attachments (like images), you can replace low quality images of Doc document with the original images located in the uncompressed package.
That's it, of course this works for me with a simple Pages document with an image, that doesn't mean that works for every .pages file.
I have recently started using Pages in iwork over Office, I like the easy formatting and usability of Pages. But I have to send all these recently create pages doc in a word format to someone and so I did the Save as Word option. When I opened the Word file in Word all the text formatting went all over the place, it looked like it put extra tabs in there and there is a split down the middle of the text like it has put it in two columns.
Is there any way to ensure that when I create my pages document that the formatting is agreeable with word.

I know I have seen others offer to convert .pages files to .doc files here; can anyone help a brother out? I used the trial version of Pages to write my resume and now cannot open it.
View 1 Replies View RelatedOne of my editors had starting using OpenOffice and when he sends files to me they arrive in a zip that, when opened has some games and other things and one png file that is a thumbnail of the document, very tiny.
Is there a converter for OpenOffice docs that will open them in Pages (my preference) or Word ?
Any familiar with OpenOffice? Is it necessary to receive a zip file every time from him? He's technically inept and perhaps I can just tell him how to export the proper file.
Microsoft Word Mail Merge launches a file converter when using Excel files as the data source. Nothing new about that. However, when using Mail Merge in Word 2008 and an Excel xlsx file as data source under OS X 10.6, the file converter will not recognize the file unless the extension .xlsx is actually appended to the file name. The file converter used by Word 2008 still recognizes xls files with or without the extension appended, as did the file converter used by Word X.
View 3 Replies View RelatedWhen copying a table from say a webpage or even a RTF file, Pages does not retain its table formatting. Instead it separates the rows and columns and puts them on separate lines.
See it for yourself, try copying one of the tables on this page into Pages [URL]
The only way I can get the table into Pages is to paste into NeoOffice (which retains the correct formating), save the file with the .doc extension then open in Pages.
My wife has lots of documents in old pages format in many folders. I would like to come up with a script of some sort to batch open and close them using pages 09. The script i have in automator says the script is fine when ran but has no output.on open theFiles tell application "Pages".

Why is save as an iWork 08 file an option in the new iWork 09 programs? Does iWork 08 use a different extension that cannot open iWork 09 documents?

View 15 Replies View RelatedI know that you can show facing pages using View>inspector>documents. But, this does not place the pages side by side, Is there any way that say page 1 and page 2 can be shown and worked on side by side so you do not have to scroll up and down to view them?
View 10 Replies View RelatedI just bought my first computer in November. The Apple Store manager (who was great btw) insisted that I needed The Microsoft Word program, which I bought. I rarely use it. Today I found out I had a 30 day trial version of iWork on my computer and took the little tour. Fortunately I am not familiar with either program enough to have a preference. My needs are mostly personal. I do need to be able to do inventory, fliers, etc. for my 'at home' business, projects and/ or informative stuff for my kids school, and various personal projects. I like it clean, creative and simple. But I have a few questions:
1.) Why would the manager tell me I needed Word, if I had iWork already on my computer? (aren't they just 2 different versions of the same thing? iWork looks better.)
2.) Does that 30 day 'trial' start when I bought my MacBook or when I first use it?
Right away when I tried it, it opened up in my microsoft word free trail. Please tell me I don't have to pay another $150 dollars after all this money I spent on this computer.
View 14 Replies View RelatedGuys I'm having one slight problem. I have iWork 09, and when I try to export PDF the pdf looks really bad on 100% zoom. 125% is quite OK, though still not perfect. When I preview the document in PDF,it looks perfect. However when I export it, characters aren't inline and look weird. Who knows why this might be? I have an imac 2.66 ghz bought in October if that's of any use.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have Leopard and an external FreeAgent HD. I have Quicken on the external and all my spreadsheets and letters on the Leopard I updated one of the six spreadsheets and when I went back this morning everything is gone. No pages (letters) and no spreadsheets. At first I too thought it was the hidden extension but I've tried every type of utility and finder search for file names and documents on both HD and external. How in the world you could lose all your documents?
I have never understood Time Machine. I looked there and tried to reinstall backups from the first of the month but the only thing in Time Machine is the program itself, none of the spreadsheets or letters. I'm still struggling with the conversion from Windows. Have been using the Mac for over a year now and love it but somethings are difficult to learn after many years on PC's.
can I open document if I don't have installed iWork or Word? and do I have to have mac version of word to install it or i could install any word on my mac?
