This is my first post, I've been using macs for at least 3 years now and wouldn't class myself as clueless BUT I do have a question...
When I insert a hard drive or memory stick into my macbook, it always mounts on the desktop. That is quite useful but I'd also like it to pop up in finder, or with options to open the files on the drive (like windows does).
I have an iMac and have never seen this but my Dad who bought an iMac on my recommendation is seeing a pop-up called PhilNet. Not much on the web about it and I think it's spyware. Anyone come across this and or just have some ideas on how to get rid of it?
View 12 Replies View RelatedI'm using Mail. Up til now, I've had no problems. Recently my paypal acct was accessed by a third-party overseas. Since then I am getting nearly 200 e mails a week that are marked undeliverable. The e mails are almost always addressed to weird overseas addresses but are probably bogus anyway. I don't know how this happened or how to fix it. I can't even check my e mail on my iPhone because I'll be deleting mail from Mail Delivery System for ever. Is there ANYTHING I can do?

View 7 Replies View RelatedI am needing to install a pdf reader on a Mac Classic 7.0. It is the only computer that can connect to the Laserwriter IINT (I have a Mac G3 OS 10.2 but am not seeing how to connect to the Laserwriter. I'm needing to edit/print old Cricket Draw and Pagemaker files and found when I updated the Pagemaker files on the G3 and printed them on the Classic - some of the graphics I added caused printing errors. After much googling it appears to be a compression problem in the older Pagemaker when printing. I tried replacing the graphics with cricket draw PICTs but still had errors.
SO plan 'B' was to edit the files on the G3 - print to PDF - then print the PDF from the Classic. I found a PrintToPDF 2.4.5 that says it will run on the Classic but the Classic doesn't have Stuffit - can't seem to get the PDF installed.
Maybe I am looking at this whole thing wrong and need to concentrate on connecting the Laserwriter to the G3.
OR - can I connect the 2 machines so that I can run the classic from the G3 similar to how I use Remote Computing on PCs to run another PC from a main one. I do not know what would be involved - cabling or otherwise.
The situation is I can edit the Pagemakers on the G3 and print them to PDF and would print them to the Laserwriter if I could figure out how to connect and install the printer on the G3
How do I get Classic to run again under OSX 10.3.9? I am getting a message stating that I need to have at least 128MB of RAM to run Classic... I have 1.5GB of RAM.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am currently running Mac OSX on my G4. For some reason my classic 9 won't run any more. I can't open any programs that run on classic 9. I tried to reinstall classic 9 from the installation disk and that won't run either. Anything that has to do with classic 9 won't run.
View 7 Replies View RelatedCan I install my OS 10.2.2 disk, which includes OS 9 Classic, to fix Classic and maintain my hand-me-down 10.3.9 (with no disks)? My attempt at installing 9.2.2 disk shows "more than one system found, please choose" (available folders) which show the same message. I've been in cummunicado for a long time (years) and am wondering if the abandonment of 10.3.9 means the loss of use of my beloved pinball and Scrabble (legacy?) games in any new Mac?Â
I need the Classic to use my library of legacy games, but the 10.3.9 as a (somewhat) useful internet so I can put this old goat (the device!, not me)out to pasture to live its final year(s) doing good deeds like running UC Berkeley's BOINC program to search for extraterrestrial life (SETI). No kidding. I'm currently using an HP Pavilion with Window Vista.Â

Look at the photo that illustrates the speaker grill on the bottom of the display -- the wallpaper image has strange curved lines that look eerily similar to magnetic interference that could be caused by the magnets in the speakers. I emailed AI about this yesterday, but did not get a response - hoping to get clarification without creating unnecessary FUD, so I ask here in the open. What are those curved lines? Are they part of the image, or are they a flaw in the monitor.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI began having freezes unrelated to any new software or behaviors. The hardware check showed no problems with the hardware or memory, so I cleaned out the inside of the computer, used Disk utility, AppleJack, Mac Janitor and reset p ram (all said it was OK, then the freeze came back), and finally zeroed the hard drive and reinstalled OSX.
It was stable for a few weeks then the freeze happened again followed by repeated kernel panics. I went thru all the steps above again but finished with an archive and install and created a new user admin account. Until this point the freezes and KP were on all three user profiles. But now this new user admin is fully functional while the others are still messed up.
I just tried to add a partition to my external HDD (which I use for Time Machine). I used Disk Utility to add a partition of 100GB (leaving an extra 200GB for the Time Machine partition). This process took about 30 seconds and when both partitions re-mounted they were both empty. I went back into Disk Utility and deleted the second partition I just added and resized the Time Machine partition back to using 100% of the HDD.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI purchased the iSale 3 Family Pack roughly 2 years ago. At the time, this was a 69$ purchase. Recently, it stopped working. I have gone around and around with Equinux support to find resolution. The software is unusable -- ebay now requires Handling Time to be specified and iSale 3 does not support this functionality. Rather than update iSale 3 to function again (you can't submit an auction at all in it's current state), they force you into a purchased upgrade. My name is Adrian and I am happy to help. eBay recently unveiled a "handling time" feature. It allows you to tell your customers how long you'll need to dispatch their item. At the moment, only iSale 4 and 5 are compatible with this feature. Now eBay has decided to make this a mandatory requirement for all auctions. Unfortunately iSale 3 has proved more difficult to update than iSale 4 and 5, due to their more modern and more flexible design. In recognition of this inconvenience, we would like to offer our iSale 3 users a 10USD/EUR discount off an iSale 5 upgrade. To redeem this discount, simply go to [URL] log in with your equinux ID and password and click the 'upgrade now' button. You will be taken to the equinux online store where you should see all available licenses for your product. Enter the following promocode at the checkout....
View 5 Replies View RelatedSo I have had the Logitech Z-5500's since September and have never had this problem until just now, but for those of you familiar with the system you'll know what I mean by the Control Module(CM), if not it's the thing with the volume knob and screen. It is what actually contains the circuitry for the digital to analog conversion and the DTS/Dolby surround sound hardware.
Anyways, recently my WiFi connection has been horrible if not non-existent, with either being unable to connect to my network or if I am lucky enough to connect I can't load anything. Well I thought it was the 12 South BookArc that I have for my MBP because when I lifted my MBP out of it my webpage would instantly load. But that couldn't have been it because I have been using it since Christmas with no problems until now. Then one day I accidentally moved the CM away from my MBP while the net wouldn't load and it instantly loaded.
So, having only had my I-Mac for around a month now the $64,000..Do I need any Security Software or not and if I do what is the best one to have ?

How can I make this run in Snow Leopard?
I am finding that it is tough (if actually possible) to run the Classic Environment with Leopard on Intel-based Macs. However, I have an iBook G4 from mid-2005 that came with Panther. I upgraded to Leopard, and so lost the capability of running Mac Classic.I recently bought a study book for a college exam, but the software it came with requires Mac Classic, which I cannot run. Is there a simple way of making this work? I tried SheepShaver, but I couldn't figure out how to make that do anything useful

If I used boot camp and dual booted into tiger would that fix my problem cause tiger has the classic environment but I dont have a ppc.
