MacBook Pro :: WiFi Interference - How To Avoid It

Aug 5, 2010

So I have had the Logitech Z-5500's since September and have never had this problem until just now, but for those of you familiar with the system you'll know what I mean by the Control Module(CM), if not it's the thing with the volume knob and screen. It is what actually contains the circuitry for the digital to analog conversion and the DTS/Dolby surround sound hardware.

Anyways, recently my WiFi connection has been horrible if not non-existent, with either being unable to connect to my network or if I am lucky enough to connect I can't load anything. Well I thought it was the 12 South BookArc that I have for my MBP because when I lifted my MBP out of it my webpage would instantly load. But that couldn't have been it because I have been using it since Christmas with no problems until now. Then one day I accidentally moved the CM away from my MBP while the net wouldn't load and it instantly loaded.

Hardware :: Magnetic Interference - How To Avoid It

Dec 8, 2008

Look at the photo that illustrates the speaker grill on the bottom of the display -- the wallpaper image has strange curved lines that look eerily similar to magnetic interference that could be caused by the magnets in the speakers. I emailed AI about this yesterday, but did not get a response - hoping to get clarification without creating unnecessary FUD, so I ask here in the open. What are those curved lines? Are they part of the image, or are they a flaw in the monitor.

Mac Pro :: How To Remove Bluetooth And WiFi Interference

Mar 26, 2008

Recently my Bluetooth has been a pain in the... erm... posterior. I changed the batteries in my new apple keyboard today and since then it has regularly dropped out and disconnected, thankfully it reconnects its self pretty quickly. My BT MightyMouse regularly becomes jittery and delayed for about 30 seconds or so at a time. Very annoying.

It my or may not be related, but I've read about Wi-Fi and Bluetooth interfering now and then.

IMac :: Interference Between Airport Card / Wifi - Graphic Card

Apr 24, 2009

How certain are we that (physical?) interference between the airport card/wifi and the graphics card can be cured with a download, and not actual hardware fix/repair? I mean, I know technology is advancing rapidly, but I'm not sure I can believe that a download can solve the issue that the 4850s are experiencing.

Hardware :: Bluetooth Keyboard Interfering With Wifi Signal - How To Avoid It

Jul 20, 2009

I had the problem of continual disruption of my wifi connection. I eventually tracked down the source of this problem to interference with the wifi signal from the bluetooth wireless keyboard.

When I turned bluetooth off, the wifi is solid and no disconnection, as soon as I turn it on again and use the wireless peripherals it starts to cut off the wifi at various times. To begin with it became so bad it was cutting the wifi every 5 seconds.

I thought I had solved the problem by accessing the wireless router and changing the signal number, you know 1 through 13 or so.

I'm thinking about buying a 13 inch Macbook Pro because I'm tired of hardware and software issues with PC's.I'm a writer and currently own a Lenovo U300s that has a very large, glass touchpad like the Macbooks. While typing, my palms or thumbs will brush up against the touchpad and cause the cursor to jump around on the page.It makes writing very difficult.Has anyone experienced this with the Pro (or Air) thirteen inch, and how to do you get around it?

Hardware :: Where Is Interference Coming From - How Do I Fix It Without Having Access To Settings

Dec 7, 2010

I have a brand new AirPort Express hooked up to my work's audio system and connected to my work's public wifi network. I am able to stream music from my iPhone 4 to the speakers via AirPlay for literally one second before the audio cuts out but the music keeps playing on my iPhone (w/o audio since it's "connected" to the AirPort Express and the AirPlay icon is still blue). What's wrong with this picture? I even brought my AirPort Express from home and experience the same occurrence. Where is the interference coming from and how do I fix it without having access to settings on my work's wireless router?

However, it has recently (since about a week ago) begun to make my trackpad act very strangely.

The symptoms are a little hard to summarize, but I will do my best.

MacBook Air :: Rev B, Lines, Flickering, Buzzing - How To Avoid It

Jan 22, 2009

I just purchased the Macbook Air rev 2 120gb HD model. I it has the problems with the lines on the screen. It flickers on the one test image from the forums, but does not appear to flicker during normal usage. Also, it has a sort of CPU buzzing comming from the left side of the keyboard. It gets worse then I move the trackpad.

I was thinking of calling support on this, but I don't want to end up getting the same screen with the same problems. I was wondering if anyone has gotten any of this fixed. Is there some way that I can direct support so that they put in the correct model of screen.

Laptops :: MacBook Pro Grinding/buzzing Noise - How To Avoid It

Oct 5, 2009

Let me preface this by saying I am probably taking this to the Apple Store about an hour away from where I live tomorrow. For A while my MacBook Pro 13" has been making a loud spinning/grinding noise on occasion. Normally, I'd just shut down, boot up, and it would be fixed. Well, yesterday, that didn't work. After being told by the support guy that my free phone support expired 14 days ago (Mac bought in June), he said he'd do what he could to help. I told him about the noise and held the phone up to it (it is coming from the right of the trackpad). He said he had never heard that before and said to take it in to the Apple Store. I've found an Apple Support article, but it doesn't shed a lot of light on the situation.

MacBook :: Firefox And Safari Nearly Freeze New Laptop - How To Avoid

Aug 15, 2009

So often, when I'm working with Firefox or Safari (mostly Firefox), my computer will come seconds away from crashing. It'll pause with the rainbow wheel twirling around, but if I have something like even Skype open or photoshop, I can still work in those. I've had to close Firefox a FEW times, at LEAST, in the last little while because of this.

Why is Firefox acting so WEIRD?! I've even uninstalled it and installed a new version! Why isn't it getting fixed? Is there a better program that won't do this on my brand new laptop with Leopard 10.5 OSX?

MacBook Pro :: 13" - Reason To Avoid 500GB HDD Replacement?

Sep 17, 2009

I've got a new MBP 13" (2.26, running 10.6.1)I'm going to replace the internal with a Seagate Momentus 7200RPM drive. Any reason (heat based) to go with 320 vs. the 500GB? I do video and photos (hobby, not pro), so I'd like to stay with 7200RPM. Related question: I've read here and there issues w/replacing the internal drive -- that the computer is having trouble recognizing the drive. Is this a real issue, or is it fixed.

MacBook Pro :: (Late 2009) Restarts Instead Of Shutting Down - How To Avoid

Jan 15, 2010

I have a late 2009 model MacBook Pro and lately I've noticed that it sometimes - seemingly at random - restarts itself when I tell it to shutdown (through the Apple menu then Shut Down)

Anyone encountered this or know how to fix it? I haven't had any other problems except for a month or two back it did an update then stuck on a blue screen with a little loading icon like you get under the apple when it starts up normally. After half an hour of waiting, I performed a hard reset, and it worked fine.

MacBook Pro :: How To Avoid Switching To Integrated Graphics Card

Jun 27, 2012

See the new Macbook Pro that I recently got has two graphics cards. One, the integrated, standard issue Intel HD4000 and the other one, a Nvidea GT650M. Personally, I was thrilled to learn this. However, my Macbook Pro seems to switch in between these two and I really don't want it to do that. I would rather just make the GT 650M the main graphics card and avoid using the integrated graphics.

MacBook Pro :: Clean Installs Or Just Migrate Data To Avoid Kernel Panics

Jan 9, 2011

I have a 15 inch 2010 MBP. When I got it, I migrated all my info from my previous MB. About 4-5 months into using it I started having issues w/ Kernel Panics. I did upgrade the HDD and RAM but the Kernel Panics happened before all of that. I took it to the Apple store and they ran some test on the hardware and software and said they couldn't find anything. Their advice was to just do a clean install. I wanted to avoid doing a clean install on all costs. Anyhow, I said what the who last night and backed up important files and did the clean install,

I have to say that the computer feels much more stable now. I was having a lot of little issues w/ Snow Leopard prior to the clean install. Most of that probably comes w/ me playing around w/ settings a bit too much. Also, I'll admit, I do torrent some software. In my opinion, thats what caused the kernel panics. Only time will tell if I continue to get kernel panics even after a clean install, but I think I'm good to go. So, do you guys prefer doing clean installs or just migrating your data? When Lion comes out, will you clean install or migrate to it?

MacBook Pro :: Wifi Reception Is Terrible / Constant Wifi Dropouts?

Apr 27, 2010

My 2010 15" MBP has constant Wifi dropouts, sometimes minutes at a time. Sometimes I have to reconnect. Yet it gets 4 bars. My MacBook never had these problems. It's generally slower, too. It's now useless for online video like Hulu. Anyone else seeing this? I wonder whether it's hardware (e.g. they moved the antenna, and/or because of the metal case) or software/drivers? I'm going to submit feedback after input from ya'll.

MacBook :: Will Old Titanium Running 10.3 Be Able To Connect To Wifi With A Usb Wifi Antenna?

Mar 7, 2012

I have a pretty old Titanium Mac Book that runs OS 10.3.9.  It's a moderately slow machine, but still works-  and although I realize that it won't be able to stream video or anything, I figure it would work for email, and basic web browsing-  But I'm wondering if it's going to be compatible with any new products such as a USB wifi antenna - because the room where I want to use it won't alow for an ethernet connection-   Also, will the old 10.3.9 OS allow me to connect wifi to the newer airport extreme base stations?

MacBook :: Won't Work With Wifi Network / Drops Wifi

Jan 10, 2011

MacBook. 2Ghz Intel Core Duo. OS Snow Leopard 10.6.6. I'm running a 2006 MacBook with Snow Leopard. A few months back it started dropping wifi connection. Airport would show no connection but would list my network along with others in my building. If I tried to connect with my WPA password it would just time out. At this time I was running Leopard.

Since then I've done a few things.Tried running the Netgear router with no encryption at all (same thing happens). Will lose connection and then time out trying to connect
I've tried the MacBook in a coffee shop with wifi access and at my parents (same NetGear router) and at my new apartment with a horrible Orange Livebox.
Taken the MacBook in to see the genius bar at Glasgow Apple store. Worked fine for them, but I explained it was intermittent but we could not force it to fail. I'm sure if it ran for an hour it would.
At present if I have the MacBook in the living room (where the Livebox router is situated) its fine and wont drop connection. If I walk some 5m to my bedroom it will work for approximately half and hour and then lose it. A few days ago I bought the Snow Leopard upgrade and installed it last night. MacBook runs a hell of a lot faster (yay!) but moving it away from the router and its dead as disco in half an hour.

So to clarify, the MacBook has been tested on 4 wifi networks/ locus with same issue. iPhone, Xbox 360 and PS3 all have no issues with dropping connection no matter where they are in the apartment.

Apartment is a new build and its walls are not made out of lead or kryptonite. Is this a hardware issue rather than software? When updating to Snow Leopard it was an update to the existing OS of Leopard not a clean install.

AIRPORT says the following in System Profiler.

Software Versions:
Menu Extra:6.2.1 (621.1)
configd plug-in:6.2.3 (623.2)
System Profiler:6.0 (600.9)

Mac Pro :: Repeated Kernel Panics / How To Avoid It

Feb 20, 2009

I began having freezes unrelated to any new software or behaviors. The hardware check showed no problems with the hardware or memory, so I cleaned out the inside of the computer, used Disk utility, AppleJack, Mac Janitor and reset p ram (all said it was OK, then the freeze came back), and finally zeroed the hard drive and reinstalled OSX.

It was stable for a few weeks then the freeze happened again followed by repeated kernel panics. I went thru all the steps above again but finished with an archive and install and created a new user admin account. Until this point the freezes and KP were on all three user profiles. But now this new user admin is fully functional while the others are still messed up.
