Applications :: Mac Classic With Leopard On PPC IBook
Jun 2, 2009
I am finding that it is tough (if actually possible) to run the Classic Environment with Leopard on Intel-based Macs. However, I have an iBook G4 from mid-2005 that came with Panther. I upgraded to Leopard, and so lost the capability of running Mac Classic.I recently bought a study book for a college exam, but the software it came with requires Mac Classic, which I cannot run. Is there a simple way of making this work? I tried SheepShaver, but I couldn't figure out how to make that do anything useful

I have some MS word documents on my MacBook (intel) that I'd like to transfer to my white iBook. I tried plugging an enternal HD into the iBook (that HD contained the docs) but the iBook said that the HD wasn't compatible with it. So I went back on my MacBook and transfered the files from the HD to a memory stick.
However when I plugged that in and tried to open the files, MS word opened but the file did not. The word files are Word 2007 and on the iBook is an older OS9 version of Word. The iBook has Mac OSX panther on it, but the MS word opens in "classic mode". Any ideas on how I can get the docs to open on the iBook?

I have an old Powerbook G4 1.33GHz. Which is Mac OS9 Compatible. Is it possible to dual boot this system with OS9 and Leopard. I really want to upgrade from tiger but I don't want to lose classic support. If it is possible to do this could you tell me how or point me to a website that can show me.

A radio station that I listen to on-line has switched from a Flash-based player to a Silverlight-based player. Classic FM (in the UK) even have a handy 'How to listen' guide for Macs which talks about their Flash player, but when I click to launch it I get a message telling me to install Silverlight. Is there any way that I can listen to the station on my Mac without installing Silverlight.

I am trying to find an application that I used when I was much younger in the classic environment. It was called Cocoa and was a basic game/application builder that was object-orientated and worked around creating rules for each object. I can remember that the sample level involved moving away from a dog to get a key and open a door - not specific I know but it is something...
I've been trying to find it, but it is hard to find considering there are so many other things called Cocoa. Hoping that someone else knows what I'm talking about, where I could find it or if it's been brought to OS X.

I just read something about how old laser printers--I still use a LaserWriter 16/600--need to be reconfigured to work with Snow Leopard. Unfortunately, I use to know how to do things with the Classic OS's "Apple Print Utility" but I don't think that there is an OS X equivalent. Does anyone know of one? All I want to do is be able to do the normal things: turn on/off the start up page, find out the IP address, load fonts, etc.

If there is any other threads similiar, please point me into the right direction. I have an iBook G4 1.2 GHz ppc. I know for sure that I will have to upgrade memory, but is there anything else? Or would it be better to just get a new MacBook? I'm very aware of my member status, so I plead some of you "MR Lords" take me under your wing.

I have an aging iBook (1.33gHz G4, 1GB RAM) and I'm wondering if I should even bother upgrading to Leopard. I guess I should wait to see what other people's experiences are, but I'm just curious. Will Leopard take up too much of my poor iBook's resources? I don't even want to buy it if it's going to run much slower than Tiger.

My friend can lend me his Leopard disk, but I'm a bit unsure if Leopard can run fast enough. It currently runs Tiger, and is useable, I don't know if the same can be said for Leopard. Has anyone ran it on an iBook, around the same amount of ram?and trust me, I have looked into ram upgrades, but due to the built in 256 and the previous owners extra 512, I cannot, as there are no more ports, without losing a good 512.

I recently received a friend's iBook (G4 - not sure about other specs) and it isn't booting. The computer just hangs at the Apple logo when I try to boot from the hard drive.
So I decided the easiest way to fix it would be to simply take my retail leopard disc and install it on the machine (they don't need any data recovery). When I hold the option key the Leopard disc shows up fine, but after I select it and click the arrow to continue it just sits at the apple logo with a twirling loading icon. Anyone else had this issue? Any ideas?
Do I need to reset the system profile or something? Sorry I am an old-school mac newbie... my own machine is a MacBook and I'm much more familiar with it than this G4 iBook.

It's a Dual 2 GHz PPC from 2007 running 10.5.8. I have old disks for 10.2 but they don't include Classic OS. I have OS 9 disks but they're for a G4. What are my options, including buying Classic OS somewhere or re-formatting the hard drive?

I've bought a iBook from eBay for my mum and grabbed a copy of Leopard, but every time I try and install it I get the following message:"Install Failed - The installer could not validate the contents of the 'BaseSystem' package. Contact the software manufacturer for assistance."I know the disc itself is fine as I previously used it to install Leopard on my Macbook. I've also just bought a brand new 1Gb stick of memory from Crucial as I read in a few places that "this message is due to faulty RAM in 99.9% of cases".

I've got a ibook 1.2 ghz w/ 1.25 gigs of ram. I'm going to be using it for school. Just some word processing, email/internet, and music. It came with panther and it has the latest updates.. Is it worth it to get Tiger for it? Will I notice a huge difference? Things are alright now, but I'm used to my MBP zipping through everything. I know it won't ever be as zippy as the MBP, but will Tiger make a huge difference?

I recently bought an iBook with a 1.33 GHz processor, 1 GB of ram, and a 60 GB hard drive. It's still 3 to 8 days until it gets delivered, but I was doing some thinking, and couldn't decide between Tiger and Leopard. It comes with Tiger and iLife (not sure what version of iLife). My brother has a Leopard install disk that he says he'll lend me if I want to install it. I am leaning toward Leopard, but only because it has a nicer GUI, in my opinion at least. I'll probably use Tiger on it for a week before deciding to whether upgrade or not.
