Hardware :: Magnetic Interference - How To Avoid It
Dec 8, 2008
Look at the photo that illustrates the speaker grill on the bottom of the display -- the wallpaper image has strange curved lines that look eerily similar to magnetic interference that could be caused by the magnets in the speakers. I emailed AI about this yesterday, but did not get a response - hoping to get clarification without creating unnecessary FUD, so I ask here in the open. What are those curved lines? Are they part of the image, or are they a flaw in the monitor.

So I have had the Logitech Z-5500's since September and have never had this problem until just now, but for those of you familiar with the system you'll know what I mean by the Control Module(CM), if not it's the thing with the volume knob and screen. It is what actually contains the circuitry for the digital to analog conversion and the DTS/Dolby surround sound hardware.
Anyways, recently my WiFi connection has been horrible if not non-existent, with either being unable to connect to my network or if I am lucky enough to connect I can't load anything. Well I thought it was the 12 South BookArc that I have for my MBP because when I lifted my MBP out of it my webpage would instantly load. But that couldn't have been it because I have been using it since Christmas with no problems until now. Then one day I accidentally moved the CM away from my MBP while the net wouldn't load and it instantly loaded.

I want to know if anybody has any luck on how to resolve this issue.
Since Apple replaced my MBP after the logic board dying, I have been getting random blue fuzzy interference on my display!

I've seen a video (although in German) of a magnetic USB adapter.
In the video, the girl plugs in a male USB piece into the car's radio and fits a female USB piece on the end of a USB Drive. They magnetically attached and the radio played music.
The magnetic pieces really reminded me of the MagSafe adapter.
Does anyone know where to find the magnetic USB adapter?
I want to use it to simplify docking my MacBook Pro so I only plug in the MagSafe and USB. I'll have input devices, USB sound card, external hard drive and my iPod plugged into the USB hub hidden under the desk.

I just upgraded from a 12" iBook to a new MacBook Pro. My iBook is still working nicely and I'd like to give it to my bf's parents. The only issue with it is that the little magnetic latch that swings out from the screen bezel came unattached several months ago. I was rather annoyed when it happened, but I discovered what a big to-do it would be to take apart the LCD housing to try to fix it, so I just left it as is. But before I give it away, I'd like to now permanently afix the latch in the "out" position with some strong epoxy glue or something, so that the screen can be properly latched shut. I was wondering if some kindly iBook user out there could do a couple quick measurements of the latch in the out position, so I know where to put it. Knowing how far it's supposed to stick out and how far it is from the side of the little hide-away in the bezel would be excellent.

i dunno if this is new or everyone already knows bout it, but when i stacked one macbook air on top of the other with the bottom one sleeping, the one stacked on top also goes to sleep even if it was turned on. i tried this on a friends macbook air and this happens. is it coz of the magnetic fields in the hard drive? anyone with 2 macbook airs on hand should definitely try this.

Macbook Pro 2.2. Is there a way to replace just the magnetic area. One of the electric pins inside is not springing out. The connector ends up getting warm and now it will not even charge. I am using girfriend's macbook magsafe. I dont want to have to buy a new magsafe when I could possibly just replace the connector.

Recently my Bluetooth has been a pain in the... erm... posterior. I changed the batteries in my new apple keyboard today and since then it has regularly dropped out and disconnected, thankfully it reconnects its self pretty quickly. My BT MightyMouse regularly becomes jittery and delayed for about 30 seconds or so at a time. Very annoying.
It my or may not be related, but I've read about Wi-Fi and Bluetooth interfering now and then.

I'm thinking about buying a 13 inch Macbook Pro because I'm tired of hardware and software issues with PC's.I'm a writer and currently own a Lenovo U300s that has a very large, glass touchpad like the Macbooks. While typing, my palms or thumbs will brush up against the touchpad and cause the cursor to jump around on the page.It makes writing very difficult.Has anyone experienced this with the Pro (or Air) thirteen inch, and how to do you get around it?

I have a brand new AirPort Express hooked up to my work's audio system and connected to my work's public wifi network. I am able to stream music from my iPhone 4 to the speakers via AirPlay for literally one second before the audio cuts out but the music keeps playing on my iPhone (w/o audio since it's "connected" to the AirPort Express and the AirPlay icon is still blue). What's wrong with this picture? I even brought my AirPort Express from home and experience the same occurrence. Where is the interference coming from and how do I fix it without having access to settings on my work's wireless router?

So, I have a Wacom Intuos-3 4x6 tablet, it's about a year old now, and never given me much grief. I use it as a gaming mouse mostly, as I never got good at drawing with it...
However, it has recently (since about a week ago) begun to make my trackpad act very strangely.
The symptoms are a little hard to summarize, but I will do my best.

How certain are we that (physical?) interference between the airport card/wifi and the graphics card can be cured with a download, and not actual hardware fix/repair? I mean, I know technology is advancing rapidly, but I'm not sure I can believe that a download can solve the issue that the 4850s are experiencing.

I have an iMac and have never seen this but my Dad who bought an iMac on my recommendation is seeing a pop-up called PhilNet. Not much on the web about it and I think it's spyware. Anyone come across this and or just have some ideas on how to get rid of it?

I'm using Mail. Up til now, I've had no problems. Recently my paypal acct was accessed by a third-party overseas. Since then I am getting nearly 200 e mails a week that are marked undeliverable. The e mails are almost always addressed to weird overseas addresses but are probably bogus anyway. I don't know how this happened or how to fix it. I can't even check my e mail on my iPhone because I'll be deleting mail from Mail Delivery System for ever. Is there ANYTHING I can do?

I began having freezes unrelated to any new software or behaviors. The hardware check showed no problems with the hardware or memory, so I cleaned out the inside of the computer, used Disk utility, AppleJack, Mac Janitor and reset p ram (all said it was OK, then the freeze came back), and finally zeroed the hard drive and reinstalled OSX.
It was stable for a few weeks then the freeze happened again followed by repeated kernel panics. I went thru all the steps above again but finished with an archive and install and created a new user admin account. Until this point the freezes and KP were on all three user profiles. But now this new user admin is fully functional while the others are still messed up.

I just tried to add a partition to my external HDD (which I use for Time Machine). I used Disk Utility to add a partition of 100GB (leaving an extra 200GB for the Time Machine partition). This process took about 30 seconds and when both partitions re-mounted they were both empty. I went back into Disk Utility and deleted the second partition I just added and resized the Time Machine partition back to using 100% of the HDD.

I purchased the iSale 3 Family Pack roughly 2 years ago. At the time, this was a 69$ purchase. Recently, it stopped working. I have gone around and around with Equinux support to find resolution. The software is unusable -- ebay now requires Handling Time to be specified and iSale 3 does not support this functionality. Rather than update iSale 3 to function again (you can't submit an auction at all in it's current state), they force you into a purchased upgrade. My name is Adrian and I am happy to help. eBay recently unveiled a "handling time" feature. It allows you to tell your customers how long you'll need to dispatch their item. At the moment, only iSale 4 and 5 are compatible with this feature. Now eBay has decided to make this a mandatory requirement for all auctions. Unfortunately iSale 3 has proved more difficult to update than iSale 4 and 5, due to their more modern and more flexible design. In recognition of this inconvenience, we would like to offer our iSale 3 users a 10USD/EUR discount off an iSale 5 upgrade. To redeem this discount, simply go to [URL] log in with your equinux ID and password and click the 'upgrade now' button. You will be taken to the equinux online store where you should see all available licenses for your product. Enter the following promocode at the checkout....

I just let my MBP 2011 in sleep mode at night.I've already reinstalled os x lion a few days ago, and I need it to work, so I can't risk making the update. So Is there a way to avoid the thunderblot upgrade ? Like deleting the upgraded files or something ? I'm too paranoid to reboot (And there's still no fix ?)

I just purchased the Macbook Air rev 2 120gb HD model. I it has the problems with the lines on the screen. It flickers on the one test image from the forums, but does not appear to flicker during normal usage. Also, it has a sort of CPU buzzing comming from the left side of the keyboard. It gets worse then I move the trackpad.
I was thinking of calling support on this, but I don't want to end up getting the same screen with the same problems. I was wondering if anyone has gotten any of this fixed. Is there some way that I can direct support so that they put in the correct model of screen.

I have read lots of posts regarding the WSOD and know the fixes etc. But I have just bought a brand new mac mini (intel 2.4 GHZ dual core, 160 GB hd) with Snow Leopard and ilife etc all preinstalled. When switching this on for the very first time I got the white screen of death and had to hold the power button to restart it... then it booted fine and I was able to set it up.
