OS X V10.3 :: Can Install 10.2.2 To Fix Classic 9.2.2 And Still Maintain 10.3.9 OS
May 24, 2012
Can I install my OS 10.2.2 disk, which includes OS 9 Classic, to fix Classic and maintain my hand-me-down 10.3.9 (with no disks)? My attempt at installing 9.2.2 disk shows "more than one system found, please choose" (available folders) which show the same message. I've been in cummunicado for a long time (years) and am wondering if the abandonment of 10.3.9 means the loss of use of my beloved pinball and Scrabble (legacy?) games in any new Mac?
I need the Classic to use my library of legacy games, but the 10.3.9 as a (somewhat) useful internet so I can put this old goat (the device!, not me)out to pasture to live its final year(s) doing good deeds like running UC Berkeley's BOINC program to search for extraterrestrial life (SETI). No kidding. I'm currently using an HP Pavilion with Window Vista.

I have an eMac (the 1GHz USB 2.0 educational model) and retail copies of OS 10.3 and 9.1. OS 10.3 is installed, and I would like to install the Classic Mac Environment using my retail copy of OS9, but I can't figure out how to get it to work. The machine won't boot from the OS9 cd, and when I run the installer in Panther, it stops with a message that I need to update OS9, but cannot unless the drive is writable (which it isn't, because it's a cd). Is there a way to get OS9 onto my HDD so that I can actually update it, or do I need to buy another copy of OS9 to get this to work?

A radio station that I listen to on-line has switched from a Flash-based player to a Silverlight-based player. Classic FM (in the UK) even have a handy 'How to listen' guide for Macs which talks about their Flash player, but when I click to launch it I get a message telling me to install Silverlight. Is there any way that I can listen to the station on my Mac without installing Silverlight.
.I have files I have received over time on my flatpanel imac. You now guess its really old in computer years. I need to transfer these files onto an external hard drive and from then to my newer computer. The problem is that I want to maintain the details in those files. You know how when you right click a pic or sound file and chose view options/details(I forgot what it is) then you get dated created, date modified, last opened, all this extra information? I really need to save this information specially date created. If I transfer them will the new date created be the date of transferring the files or will it maintain its original date?
So I guess when I first set up my Drobo I set it up with a 2TB limit per partition. Now I want to add more drives but maintain one bigger partition and not have to start a new one.Has anyone done this yet and would you be willing to tell me how? I basically want to reformat my Drobo so I can set my limit to 8 or 16 TB limit.Right now my drobo is showing up as two separate 2TB partitions.
I would like to maintain an off-site backup, and plan to rotate a hard drive on a monthly basis. I'm running 10.5.5 with Time Machine. I understand that I may need to initialize a new backup drive every time I switch drives? Any thoughts? Is Time Machine really the best way to go here?
I have an OnyX program to clean and maintain my Mac. This was recommended by the Geek Squad. Is this safe for my Mac and is there a better program for this purpose? I was previously using Mac Keeper.

recently, my mouse has been having a lot of trouble holding its "click". By this I mean when I, for example, attempt to drag a file folder to folder or even drag a window around, it loses the "hold" and usually ends up dropping the file and clicking something else. Oftentimes if i right click hold it will lose the hold and select something else in the menu.Does anyone have any ideas as to what the problem might be? I'm not certain that it is a hardware problem either, if maybe it is something to do with my iMac itself?
I want to relocate these masters into a directory structure that exactly matches the project structure. Best I can tell, the basic "relocate masters" functionality can only dump images into a single directory. Any way to mirror the project structure on the filesystem?
Ever since owning the uMBP, I have kept the battery charged and monthly calibrate it to maintain a 100% battery health. But through this, the laptop limits its portability and it is sometimes extremely tedious to find a plug in order to use it. My question is: Is it really worth it to keep a good battery that will last overtime, or would you prefer simply purchasing a new battery when your old one dies? Also, how big of a difference does a healthy battery compare to a battery put through regular use?
I am struggling to reduce the size of some of my PDF , without loosing image quality. I have used Finder and it did reduce size , but the the picture quality was poor.
How to - Creating and maintaining Lossless and Lossy music libraries in iTunes 9 A forum member has asked for information on how to create a new library for his music collection and below is my attempt to help. Having done this myself and never finding a complete step-by-step guide, I?ve attempted to make one of my own. Many others have helped me along the way so this is my way of giving back. Unfortunately, I don?t have my MBP right now and won?t have a Mac around for about two months. Please feel free to add feedback, tell me where I?m wrong, what?s missing or offer other ways of accomplishing these tasks. Once I get MR member input, I will update this post to reflect the best current practices for creating and maintaining two separate libraries for your lossless and lossy music collection. At the bottom of the post I list a couple of known issues and have a couple of questions so please chime in.
I am a technologically challenged old lady with 500 wonderful cd's that I want to transfer to an external hard drive that my SONOS system will recognize. How do I do this and how do I MAINTAIN the fantastic sound quality on the CD's?
It's a Dual 2 GHz PPC from 2007 running 10.5.8. I have old disks for 10.2 but they don't include Classic OS. I have OS 9 disks but they're for a G4. What are my options, including buying Classic OS somewhere or re-formatting the hard drive?
We have over 300 users of a special land surveying software LANDESIGN 1.17 made for Classic OS9 and we were able to run it successfully with the modified Sheepshaver 2.3 "Classic On Intel 4.01" installed on OSX 10.5.1 on an MB Pro Intel but after updating to OSX 10.5.4, this Classic application it is not working properly in COI 4.01 The OS9 loads ok but when I tried to open the Landesign application from within OS9, a dialog windows display "the application could noy be opened because the application that was used to create could not be found" It was running great before. Is there any other OS9 application that runs in OSX 10.5.4 on an Intel Mac?
I am needing to install a pdf reader on a Mac Classic 7.0. It is the only computer that can connect to the Laserwriter IINT (I have a Mac G3 OS 10.2 but am not seeing how to connect to the Laserwriter. I'm needing to edit/print old Cricket Draw and Pagemaker files and found when I updated the Pagemaker files on the G3 and printed them on the Classic - some of the graphics I added caused printing errors. After much googling it appears to be a compression problem in the older Pagemaker when printing. I tried replacing the graphics with cricket draw PICTs but still had errors.
SO plan 'B' was to edit the files on the G3 - print to PDF - then print the PDF from the Classic. I found a PrintToPDF 2.4.5 that says it will run on the Classic but the Classic doesn't have Stuffit - can't seem to get the PDF installed.
Maybe I am looking at this whole thing wrong and need to concentrate on connecting the Laserwriter to the G3.
OR - can I connect the 2 machines so that I can run the classic from the G3 similar to how I use Remote Computing on PCs to run another PC from a main one. I do not know what would be involved - cabling or otherwise.
The situation is I can edit the Pagemakers on the G3 and print them to PDF and would print them to the Laserwriter if I could figure out how to connect and install the printer on the G3
How do I get Classic to run again under OSX 10.3.9? I am getting a message stating that I need to have at least 128MB of RAM to run Classic... I have 1.5GB of RAM.
I am currently running Mac OSX on my G4. For some reason my classic 9 won't run any more. I can't open any programs that run on classic 9. I tried to reinstall classic 9 from the installation disk and that won't run either. Anything that has to do with classic 9 won't run.
I recently upgraded an iMac 400 Indigo from OS 9.2 to OS 10.2.8. It wasn't the first time I have done that. This time, however, when I tried to install an older software program, I got a message saying that the classic environment couldn't be found. This never happened before. What can I do to restore the classic environment so I can run older software?
I am finding that it is tough (if actually possible) to run the Classic Environment with Leopard on Intel-based Macs. However, I have an iBook G4 from mid-2005 that came with Panther. I upgraded to Leopard, and so lost the capability of running Mac Classic.I recently bought a study book for a college exam, but the software it came with requires Mac Classic, which I cannot run. Is there a simple way of making this work? I tried SheepShaver, but I couldn't figure out how to make that do anything useful
