OS X :: Play Input Sound Over Speakers?

Sep 20, 2007

Is there a simple way to play the sound coming into audio input over my speakers (headphone jack)? I have two macs running side by side and I would like my new mac to act like a receiver for the old one.

OS X :: Is It Possible To Play Sound Through Speakers And Headphones

Feb 12, 2010

I was wondering if it's possible to play sound through the speakers and headphones of a computer simultaneously.

The reason I was wondering if it would work, is because I'm recording a song for school, and I can't hear the backing track through my speakers, but my computer still picks it up. However if i we're to use headphones and my speakers could be playing the same thing at the same time, everything would be fine.

If not, can I connect an audio jack and have it play through the seperate speakers?

Hardware :: Any Computer Speakers With Optical Input?

Dec 14, 2010

One thing I love about the iPod Hi-Fi is that it has an optical audio input. It sounds incredible with the optical audio from a Mac, Apple TV, or sat TV receiver. I would love to have that for my Mac's connected speakers because Macs of course have digital optical out. However, are there any speakers out there, intended for computer use (size and whatnot) that have an digital optical input?

PowerPC :: Mac G5 Dual-Core 2.3GHz - Sound Card Needed For 5.1 Surround Sound Speakers?

Jul 24, 2008

I'm pretty new here, though I posted over a year ago here with a few questions as a beginning switcher. My switch completed in Christmas of 2005 with a late '05 Power Mac G5 Dual-Core 2.3GHz with 1GB RAM and 250GB HDD. I decided to get another monitor and it is a Sony 19" LCD one. I also didn't get any speakers since I used headphones a lot at the time. I recently decided to start using speakers. So temporarily, I am using the Altec Lansing BX1120 2.0 Stereo speakers from Walmart for only $15. They sound great but I would like 5.1 surround sound to watch my DVDs (and to soon upgrade to BluRay & SACD/DVD-A; but that's for another thread later on). Before I go on, I would like to ask questions and provide facts with what my 'puter has. My specific products I'm looking for is at the bottom of this message.

OS X :: Speakers Unable To Handle High Pitched Sound / Sound Gets Quite

May 1, 2008

I have a 24" aluminum iMac G5. I have never had a problem with sound before, and feel like this problem is isolated to a certain DVD but the DVD works on EVERY other player I own. Everything pretty much plays DVDs, so that's many!

So here's my problem: There's parts of this movie that have very high pitched sounds, like electronic sounds that are just sound effects in the movie. Whenever I get to those parts in this movie (maybe even other movies for all I know, I don't play many) and the sound goes quiet, like the speakers can't handle that high pitched sound.

I feel there must be something I can do about it, right? I just use the regular default DVD player application that pops up when I put a DVD in. I tried playing with that equalizer but nothing changed. Any ideas...?

MacBook Air :: No Sound From Internal Speakers - How To Get Sound

For reasons unknown the internal sound option has disappeared from my MBA. The little speaker icon on the menu bar is grayed out and nothing comes from the jack. Internal speakers don't even show up as an option under sound output. I do use an Airport Express for external speakers but it's been playing happily with the internal speakers for months.

MacBook :: Internal Webcam - No Input Sound

Apr 22, 2010

I have a MacBook with the internal webcam/microphone, and had been using it for video chat recently. In the last week or so, the people with whom I'm chatting can no longer hear me. The video is fine on both ends, and I can hear them, but they can't hear me. I've gone to System Preferences > Sound > Input. Internal Microphone is selected, and from testing it, it appears to be fine. I've tried both Skype and GMail chat, so I don't think it's a software issue.

Intel Mac :: No Input Sound Coming Through (External Microphone)

My external mike (Samson C01U, USB connection) isn't working; there's no input sound coming through. I'm certain it's not a hardware problem with the mike On preferences > sound, there's no sign of any input (with input volume level turned right up). Trying to record on Camtasia / Audacity / Quicktime also isn't giving any input.

Intel Mac :: No Input Or Output Sound Devices Found

May 22, 2012

Just today I have installed an application which was to do with sound switching , called "soundflower" once iv installed and run it there was an option "create multiple sound switch" did chose and start to creating a multiple, as soon as it started my sound card panel display as "no sound card founded" and my sound icon on the top bar turned to light gray.

Double click on that and when it opens you will see your hard drive (usually Macintosh HD) on the left. Highlight your hard drive and click on Verify Disk on the far right. If that is OK click on Repair Permissions on the left. If Verify Disk is not OK try to Repair. If Repair is successful then Repair Permissions if it is not successful let me know. MacBook Pro :: No Sound Input From Audio Line-in Port (mic)?

Jun 29, 2012

I'm trying to plug in and use an external microphone to record a screen capture. Sound gets through the headphones great but, looking at Input Sound in the Sys Pref, the Line In device does not pick up any sound when I speak into the mic. If I switch it back to the Built-In Internal Microphone device it picks up my voice fine. In the Audio MIDI Setup, the Built-in Input device is selected as the device to be used for sound input. There is a switch on my headset to mute or unmute the mic and I've tried it in both positions. There is a volume dial on my headset (presumably for the headphones) and I've fiddled with that too. I've moved the Input volume for the Line In Audio Line-in port device all the way up and still it hasn't picked up a thing. I have a Mac os x Lion on a Macbook Pro and using a 3.5 mm mini-jack headset with two cables, one for the headphones and one for the microphone.

But I can't get it to actually play out the speakers. I recorded some of the audio in garage band, and that worked, but I still can't hear it unless I play the recording back

Is there ANY software or anything I can do to just hear what is coming in through the line in out my internal speakers?

OS X :: MBP Speakers Sound Bad?

Jul 16, 2009

My internal speakers sound broken, but according to Genius Bar it is apparently a software issue and they recommend an OS reinstall. I am hoping to hear some alternative suggestions. A few days ago while playing iTunes, my MBP (unibody, late 2008 and in use since December 2008) began sounding bad. It sounded as if the internal speakers had blown. Not all songs produce ugly sounds, but within a certain sound range even classical piano music and relatively quiet songs with strong vocals now tend to become unclean ounding/reverberate.The Genius Bar employee rans some tests and concluded it probably is due to some kind of corruption of software, and he advised me to reinstall Mac OS.He tested

1) if the mp3 file was damaged. Negative, a copy of it sounded fine on another MBP.
2) if the sound was bad when listening to my MBP with headphones. Negative, sounded fine on the headset.
3) if my MBP would sound bad when booted from another hard drive that played the same sound file. Negative, my MBP speakers now played that song just fine.

He also used disk utility and found no hard disk issues. He ran another test with disk utility, looking at a long list (that I don't know what is) but could not see any particular problem there, it seems. I have subsequently tried to reinstall iTunes, but that has not helped, and am now hoping for a suggestion other than an OS install which I imagine can cause a lot of trouble (not so much the installation as such, but more the subsequent tweaking of various applications that I have had a great deal of trouble setting up).

Hardware :: Getting Airtunes To Play With Home Speakers

Dec 10, 2010

I've been trying to get my airtunes express to stream sound through my home stereo with no luck. I am using a PC running my the airport express through a JVC receiver. Everything on the part of the Airport express seems to be connected correctly, I am able to log online and get a steady green light. I setup iTunes to allow for the living speakers to play but when iTunes tries to connect to the other speakers it doesn't seem to recognize them being available.

I've tried connecting it through both a digital optical connection and regular red/white audio cable connection to the back of the receiver. When using my itouch it syncs perfectly to my computer as I able to change the songs, and volume my computer is playing. When I try to select the living room speakers on my computer its grayed out an never seems to complete the connection process. When I connect to them on my itouch it connects but only sound comes out of the computer. I've made sure the volume is turned up on the master volume tab on iTunes. Do I need to do a hard reset?
