i was wondering if you can open 2 different previews to view the same pdf. i have alot of pdf books and i want to be able to have the question and the section from the book open instead of scrolling all day back and forth. i have tried using safari to open the 2nd window but using safari temps me too much to just search the web instead of do my homework.
View 3 RepliesIn Windows XP/Vista, if you are navigating in a folder containing pictures, and you click any picture, it opens up Windows built in preview program. Much like OSX. However, in Windows, you can click "Next/Previous" within that program to quickly flip through those photos. Why do the up & down arrows in OSX not work? I still prefer my iMac to any PC I have owned, but this one little thing bugs me to no end. Is there a setting I can change somewhere to make that work like in Windows?

Preview is not opening anything. Merely double click an image, or clicking Preview to open it makes my computer lag severely for up to 2 minutes. Is there any way I can uninstall and re-download it, or fix this problem? Not sure if this is related, but opening my Applications folder has the same effect, but not for nearly as long or severe, maybe just about 20 seconds. It seems opening ANY folder with "Preview" in it results in freezing up. It's starting to get really annoying, but I've downloaded a replacement image viewer until the problem is fixed.
View 3 Replies View RelatedTo stop the lagging of broswing server folders using OSX column view, I'd like to disable the 'icon preview' in OSX as the caching if the icon previews is what is grinding out fileserver browsing on our AFP server down. In Leopard 10.5 this option/checkbox is visible under the Finders View Options but on our Tiger Macs, the icon preview checkbox is missing?
Under View Options there are only the other two checkboxes visible which are the preview column and show icons. In Tiger you can turn off Icon Preview for desktop items as the icon preview option is available when you ctrl+click on the desktop but I cant seem to do it for anywhere else, in particular for when I browse server folders.
Search results in SL's Preview are not very helpful, because it shows only pages where given word/phrase occurs. I miss the view where the context of the search result was shown. Does anyone know how to get the behaviour of the pre-SL's Preview back?

Recently the preview program has stopped working. I cannot open PDF files or image files, i.e. jpeg. The only thing I can think of that I've done recently is installing a program called "MailRaider." I just uninstalled it using a program called "Appdelete."
I tried this suggestion from the apple discussion forum that did not work:
Go to the finder, find one of the PDFs you can not open. then click on that PDF one time. go to the file menu, chose get info from the file menu. the inspector window that pops up will include a section on open with. expand that section and click on the open with menu and chose preview. then click the "Change All.." button.
all PDF should now open with preview. you can repeat this process with jpegs, gifs, tifs, pngs, extra as needed.
What else can I try? Do I need to reinstall the preview application? If so, how do I do that?
when i click on a pdf in firefox, it opens it in preview, but i also find the file in my downloads. i like how the pdf opens in a separate preview window, but it's a hassle to have to keep deleting the file from downloads after i view it.

After upgrading to 10.5.6, the vast majority of my recently created, saved, or altered image files (JPEGs and PNGs, mostly) no longer feature a thumbnail preview image while in icon preview view mode. Rather, they merely display generic icons indicating what kind of file they are.
This is unbelievably frustrating. Is anyone else experiencing this?
EDIT: It effects old (read: not recently created, saved, or altered) image files as well. There seems to be no rhyme or reason as to which image files are affected; one folder will display thumbnails, the next will be full of generic icons.
PS, this is not an iPhoto issue. All my iPhoto images have thumbnails, as per usual. This issue concerns image files in folders and on the desktop.
Since i updated to maverick last week i got an issue with the Mac Preview app, it opens the documents ok, but when opening several files at the time, the thumbnails are all scrambled and not showing the miniature of the selected file.Â
if i click on the thmbnails area and navigate with the keyboard's arrows it allows me to go through the open files, all files open ok but the thumbnails is the only part that is having this issue.Â
I have deleted the com.apple.Preview from ~LibraryContainers but still having the issue.Â
Preview will still open .pdf, but not .jpg. It happened suddenly, no rhyme or reason. I've checked the info on the .jpgs, there's no restriction on the permissions that should keep them from opening, and Preview is selected as the app to open them. I've tried trashing the .plist, repairing permissions, and restarting. No dice. I'm running 10.5.6, and haven't installed anything recently.

Not sure if I can download them but PDFs that are supposed to open with a script (for example, can't just open in a new tab) do not open. Nothing happens. It won't even auto download or anything.Just tried Chrome and it downloaded just fine off the same web page.
Can display PDFs just fine if going directly to PDF link, but it definitely doesn't open with script based ones
After doing an erase and clean install to 10.6.6 for some reason my Search window continues to open in Icon view rather than List view as it did before. Hard to believe I can't resolve this. View 1 Replies View RelatedI have been having problems with my Safari and firefox. They both say they are up to date. When I use fire fox to look at Hotmail.com, it takes a while to load and when I try to open mail in new tabs, it opens a tab saying "javascript;;".
When I use safari to look at hotmail, it does an infinite loop and stays blank..the URL thingy just goes in loops. I mostly use fire fox, and some times when I go to type, I will get a 10 second delay before my text appears..
I am using Microsoft Word 2008 version 12.2.0 (last updated 12.2.1) and every time I try to switch to Notebook Layout View it just quits and tells me "Microsoft has encountered a problem and needs to quit."

just trying to get back into Windows 7 after installing it via Boot Camp. Only thing is that holding down the option key during restart does nothing, and although the partition in which Windows 7 is installed under shows up in finder, I am unable to view it in system preferences so that I can boot from it.
