Apr 8, 2009

I thought it would easy to find on the Apple site but I get pages of stuff and it doesn't appear to be what I want, or worse not for Macs

IMac (Intel) :: Startup Disk Could Not Gather Enough Information On Selected Disk

Jul 1, 2014

Every time I try to restart my computer on my Hard Drive I get this message "Startup disk could not gather enough information on the selected disk". As of right now I am running my whole computer off of a 16GB flash drive that is quickly running out of memory. How do I fix my Hard Drive without losing all 150GB worth of data. I am running off of OS X 10.6.8 and have another iMac that is working fine.

Aperture :: How To Move Selected Group Of Photos From IPhoto Into 3.5.1

Jun 29, 2014

I am working on a project in Aperture.  I want to move a select group of photos from iPhoto into Aperture 3.5.1.  I know how to open these images in Aperture by switching libraries but I can't figure out how to actually move these photos into the Aperture project.  Most posts I found are based on Aperture 3.3 which is slightly different.

OS X :: Why Doesn't Paging Move Focus Of Selected Item In List?

Aug 23, 2009

Maybe I'm missing something...

Say I'm viewing the contents of a folder containing a 1,000 files in list mode. I can "page" through the list and all the items scroll but the selected item doesn't change. I have to "mouse" to the item I want when it comes into view.

Is this by design?

MacBook Pro :: Why Won't Track-pad Work Properly And The Cursor Will Move On It's Own

Jun 2, 2012

I bought my Macbook Pro less than a year ago and the other night I was watching a TV show in itunes and I couldn't use the track pad. I was able to finally shut the Macbook down and the next morning I rebooted it. It was still acting weird and the trackpad was jumpy and would randomly start opening windows and menus as if someone was contriolling it remotely. I used my bluetooth mouse and it seemed to work ok until tonight when I was copying some files wirelessly (or trying to) and evey time I tried to select files the cursor would jump to another screen and open a menu and then select all and open all my file folders. I was able to get that to stop openin ght ewindows but I still can't use the track pad and the machine acts like it is possesed and has a mind of it's own. I have made sure file saring and screen sharing are off and the battery shows to be normal from doing the control+battery test.

ITunes :: DJ Will Not Display Under 20 Upcoming Songs

Mar 17, 2012

My iTunes DJ will not display under 20 Upcoming Songs. I want it to be zero, but when I choose this option it sticks to 20 Upcomming Songs still. Tried the other values smaller than 20, as well. However, oddly, it will allow switching to numbers higher than this (i.e. it WILL display 50, 100, etc. Upcoming Songs).

MacBook :: Finding Any Upcoming Software Updates For The Version 10.5.8?

Apr 14, 2012

I really want to update my mac to the new version of Snow Leopard or Lion but to my understanding I must buy the disks to update it. However I feel like buying a macbook pro to my replace my mid-2009 white macbook, once I graduate so I could use it for college (which is 2 years from now and I'm saving up for it). Also how do I backup my mac (hardrive)? I'm quite lost. I'm told that I must use Time Machine, but how? Do I use a CD to back up? Some external drive and if yes where could I buy one?

P.S. I'm a newbie with tech stuff. I'm no genius with it so I suggest to take it slow with me. PLUS there's no Apple Store here to help me out.

1) Upcoming software updates? *secretly wishes they were FREE*

2) Backing up my hardrive?

IMac :: 27 Inch I3 Information?

Jan 11, 2011

I was wondering if anyone here has the 27inch i3 iMac? From most of the posts on the forum, it seems most 27inch owners have the i5 or i7.

The reason I ask is this; I am planning on selling my mid/late 07 24inch iMac and purchasing one of the newer ones. I realise that the best value for money is the base 21.5" i3, however I do want the better graphics card.

The difference in price between the two 21" models is 256GBP here in the UK. However, the difference between the 21" and the i3 27" then becomes only 153GBP, which seems relatively small for the huge increase in screen size.

My uses can be considered quite average; my profession is not in the video/photo industry and hence I don't do anything that can be considered extremely heavy.

What are peoples' experiences with the 27" i3? Further, what are peoples' experiences with such a huge screen size in general? Is it 'too' big?

IMac :: Finding Information About Refurbished 27" And The AppleCare

Jun 12, 2010

Well I received my refurbished 27" i5 about two weeks ago. Since taking it out of the box it has consistently rebooted itself and sometimes even shuts down where I can't power it back up unless I remove the cord from the machine and reinsert it. I tried everything to troubleshoot, zapped PRAM, Reset SMC Controller, logged times after removing USB components, ran multiple quick and full hardware tests. Finally I gave one last attempt and wiped my drive clean and reinstalled snow leopard...Not a single one of these measures worked.

So today I finally called applecare for the first time ever. THey were extremely helpful, didn't try to walk me through troubleshooting steps since they understood that I already tried them all. They instead stated that since Im at around 28 days since ordering (may 14) that I can have it repaired or they can claim the one I got as DOA and ship me a brand new one. Once I receive the new one I ship the old one back. They also bumped up my delivery to overnight since I have been putting up with the reboots and trying to troubleshoot myself.

IMac PPC :: G5 Won't Boot Properly?

Apr 18, 2012

Recently I inherited an iMac G5 (no iSight) that has bluetooth and a preinstaled airport card. When I recieved it the drive was wiped so I did an install from the original disks. My problem is that the computer will not boot properly ; I can hear the chime, mostly the lcd lights up but it stays black, sometimes I will see the gray screen and from there it will either go to the light blue screen and hang or it will distort the picture and the fan will kick in. 2 out of 20 times it will boot successfuly but after about 1 min. it will freeze up, distort the image and then the display goes crazy! I don't know whats wrong... the capacitors have been replaced a not too long ago along with the power supply, and I ran a hardware test and it says everything is fine ( the G5 won't recognize the airport card or bluethooth!). I need help!

IMac :: When Apple Going To Properly Update

Mar 17, 2009

Does anybody have any information on when Apple are going to launch a PROPERLY upgraded iMac? They've just announced a new version with some upgraded integrated graphics, more memory and storage, but when are we going to see an iMac with Quad-Core processing and Blue-Ray? Let's face it, this is what everyone is waiting/hoping for. I've been waiting to buy a new 24" iMac for over a year - I've even got the money waiting in the bank! However I'm not going to buy until they properly refresh the range. We've seen the laptop range refreshed and the Mac Pro range upgraded, but they just seem to be dithering about a bit with the iMac. Why? I actually looked at just going for a Mac Pro instead of waiting, but they are so much more expensive than an iMac I can't justify it. C'mon Apple - I love your product but am waiting for the REAL upgrade!

OS X :: Pages Not Displaying Properly On IMAC?

Jun 22, 2009

I have the latest versions of FF (3.5) and Safari, so its not a browser issue (at least i dont THINK it is). Also, this problem started before i updated to these versions. I noticed 2-3 months ago that in websites such as YouTube, and several others, if theres two lines of words below a thumbnail, the 2nd line of words is half-hidden, as if one could scroll down to see them. But of course there =is= nothing to scroll down *to*. IN addition, on some sites, words get superimposed on top of other words. Ive tried doing some google research on this topic (including eliminating duplicate fonts), and have come up empty.

But, in Leopard (v10.5.7) whenever the iMac monitor sleeps, the secondary monitor does what a monitor usually does when the video cable is unplugged (does the whole factory test thing with the box of red/green/blue randomly moving around.) Is there any way to make it sleep?

Desktops :: Three IMac 17"s That Don't Work Properly?

Mar 3, 2009

I am tech support for an Elementary-Middle school with an all Mac curriculum. We have been this way for just about 4 years now and our first model iMac 17 inches are no longer under warranty.

We have three iMac 17"s that don't work properly, here's the rundown:

- The First works properly fine but has a bad DVI port (we run SMARTBoards and require them for most of our classroom computers)

- The Second has a bad logic board, we don't have any other information about it

- The Third has a broken display, we're pretty sure everything else works on it.

We don't have applecare support on these three and are interested in turning them in to two (hopefully) or one working model for a teacher.

Any ideas/suggestions/resources?

IMac :: 2008 Model Not Booting Properly

Jan 26, 2009

First, I have a mid-2008 Aluminum iMac, Intel Core 2 Duo, 2.4 Ghz, 2GB Ram, running OS X 10.5.6. So two days ago, it started hanging on me. Prior to this I have never had any problems with it. I had mail open, a browser window and a chat window. Started getting the spinning beach ball of death. It finally totally locked up on me and I have to force it to shut down.

However, upon reboot, it would not get past the white screen with the apple logo and the spinning gray gear icon. I'm talking like 10-15 minutes. I forced it to shut down (probably not a good idea) and this time on reboot I got the folder icon with the question mark as if firmware could not locate the booter file. I loaded the install DVD that came with the mac and ran Disk Utilities.................

IMac :: Cannot Restart Properly - Screen Just Keep Spinning

May 25, 2010

I only restart about once a week or so and for about the last four to six weeks, I've been having issues restarting my 27" iMac, which is about five months old. What happens is that after I click restart and it logs out, it gets to the blue screen and the status bar in the center of the screen just keeps spinning and spinning (not the beach ball, the other one). I've let it run for 30 minutes before and it never shuts down so I have to hold down the power button and then push it again to start it up.

Problem is, I'm starting to feel the effects of that shortcut now with iTunes randomly pausing more and more times and for longer and longer amounts of time when playing a video. I'm guessing it has something to do with the processes that are normally run during a regular restart not being run since it won't perform a natural restart.

I have created the folder but cant seem to move the files in to it - I can copy it then paste it but that seems a bit long winded just to move a file in to another folder (folder within folder.)
