I am tech support for an Elementary-Middle school with an all Mac curriculum. We have been this way for just about 4 years now and our first model iMac 17 inches are no longer under warranty.
We have three iMac 17"s that don't work properly, here's the rundown:
- The First works properly fine but has a bad DVI port (we run SMARTBoards and require them for most of our classroom computers)
- The Second has a bad logic board, we don't have any other information about it
- The Third has a broken display, we're pretty sure everything else works on it.
We don't have applecare support on these three and are interested in turning them in to two (hopefully) or one working model for a teacher.
The other day I had an issue with Mac OS, not sure what, but long story short I reinstalled/downgraded to Leopard. I have since installed all the Software Updates and such, but have not upgraded to Snow Leopard. (I'd had alot of issues with it, figured I'd stay downgraded for awhile)
In any case, I was able to download and run Java files no problem on Snow Leopard, but no longer can. It's not a ONE Java file problem.
Facebook is not loading in Safari, neither in Chrome. 2 days now. Tried resetting Safari, restarting Mac. facebook works fine on my iPhone 5. It was working fine then I logged out of my account. Logged back in after a while and after waiting a long time a very "basic " looking sceen appears where log in details can be entered but Fb is so distorted i cannot see or navigate
I have the Mozilla Firefox web browser version 2.0.0.20 .
I clicked on a Google image of the NAFTA Super Highway and the picture at the site opened with Internet Explorer .
I didn't have Internet Explorer on the computer before this happened .
Since then Internet Explorer pops up after I go on line with the Mozilla Firefox browser .
I could not get it to stop, so I moved it to the trash and it is still being held there . This is what I removed .

Before this, I'd open my mail, click on an web address in blue type, my browser would appear and the web site would open .
Now in mail when I click on a address that appears in blue type , like this [URL]= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = ERROR
Mail was unable to open the URL [URL]No associated application could be found . = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =
Do you know if there is a application missing, or could it be something else?
Recently videos are no longer playing properly on Safari, though they are on other browsers.Â
YouTube videos flicker and often display no video while the audio plays. Today where video should appear on The Onion site there was only the progress bar, with no audio either.Â
I was going to delete and reinstall Safari, but Momma Apple don't like that. What to do? A Flash problem at only affects Safari?
So a co-worker has a black MacBook that his family managed to spill some liquid on. It no longer works properly, of course. He just wants to get a new computer, so he's giving it to me. I'll get all of his data off the HDD for him and then I can keep the MacBook. It's definitely a big step up from my PowerBook in terms of speed and performance (I'll miss the dedicated card and FW800, though).
I figure it can't hurt to try to clean the motherboard/logic board in the computer to see if I can get it running. Worse comes to worst, I can buy a new logic board for the computer and put it in and be set. Some questions:- What's the best way to clean a motherboard? I've seen everything from isopropyl alcohol to distilled water to just a gentle detergent and warm tap water.
- What's a good way to tell what model the computer is from the serial number? I will get the actual computer tomorrow, but my co-worker can't remember which model it is.From my research it could be anywhere between the 2 GHz and the 2.4 GHz, though he bought it refurbished from Apple last year so I'm guessing it's the 2.4 GHz model.- If the logic board is shot, and it's not the 2.4 GHz model, does anyone know if the 2.4 GHz board can be put in a non-2.4 GHz machine?
It's not every day one comes across a free Mac, so it's definitely something to put some effort into. Once I max out the RAM and put a new drive in (maybe even an SSD in an optibay) the computer should be quite capable.
I have a 17 inch MacBook Pro (early 2008). I installed Lion back earlier this year so I could use the iBooks application. Big mistake. Since then my wifi connection constantly drops out. I've roamed these forums and tried just about everything suggested. I would now like to go back to the Snow Leopard software I had installed before.
The problem is the last Time Machine update I ran was on Lion (I know *face palm*). If I were to completely erase my hard drive, install the Snow Leopard DVD, then install the Snow Leopard update, would I still be able to use some of the files from my Lion Time Machine back up? My biggest concerns are my music purchases on the iTunes store and Microsoft Word documents....
I bought a pre-owned iMac, late 2011 running Lion, took it to the Apple store to have the hard drive wiped and Lion re-installed. Then I brought it home and migrated files via Time Machine over from my Mac Book Pro , early 2009, running Mavericks. Now my log-on password no longer works. What happened?
I have an iMac 21.5" Late 2009 3.06 GHz Intel Core Duo 2. OS X 10.9.4. All of a sudden my iSight is no longer recognized. There is no open application using it. It does not show up in the System Profilier.Â
Some people suggest to zap the PRAM but I can't even get my computer to do that. It only chimes once and then stars up normally even though I am holding down the option/command/P/R keys.
On occasion while surfing ads will appear in Arabic. I will click on YouTube and it is also in Arabic. The country preference has switched to Saudi Arabia. I have to switch the YouTube country setting back to Worldwide. After that change is made, web ads no longer appear in Arabic. Why the changes occur? For what it's worth malware scans are negative. I do use Hotspot VPN, but the server used is in the US.Â
I have a later 2012 iMac 27". The computer was running slow for the past week or so. I decided to update to Yosemite today. The installation stated it had a critical error and the downloaded file was corrupted. It asked to re-download the file, and then the iMac froze. It went to a gray screen without a restart. I forced the iMac to restart. After the restart, a progress bar with the Apple symbol would come up and then the iMac would shut down. I have attempted to restart using Internet Recovery; however, the OSX will not show a drive to install to. I did another Internet Recovery and had Disk Utility come up, but it only sees a partition with approximately 2 gigs of the 3 terabytes I actually have. It seems as if iMac is not properly mounting the drive. I have two questions.
1) Is there some way to have the bios remount the drive and 2) if 1 is not possible, is it possible to recover the data off the drive?
Using OSX 10.9.3 on my iMac. Processor 2.7 GHz Intel Core i5, Memory 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3. Fairly new iMac, 21.5 inch, Late 2013. Just now, my right click function on my mouse does not work. I have checked my System Preferences and the right click is checked under secondary click. I did uncheck it, exit System Preferences, and then come in again and re-checked it, but that did no good.Â
I did restart my computer last night before I quit for the day because recently I uninstalled Sophos Anti-Virus because it seemed to be caught in a loop that was not finished "cleaning up" but that is only change I have made. Aside from the Sophos acting wonky there were no other issues with the machine last night.Â
The right click does not work in all programs, not just Finder. How can I get my right click function to work again?
I need to run the Classic environment, and have an old iMac G5 which I'm trying to use. The trouble is that it has 10.5 installed on it. I have all the install disks for 10.4, but the Mac won't boot from them. It acknowledges the disk, then after a few minutes I get the 'No Entry' sign. (I've set up a separate partition to try to install 10.4 onto, but without success.) This should work, shouldn't it? What's going on?Â
I downloaded a movie which is a avid file just recently on my mac (which is a standard macbook NOT pro)
But it wouldnt work in quicktime so i download 2 different programs to play the avid file but all of them seem to only work if you have a macbook 10.4 version which i dont.
Is there any program that i can download to help run the avid file on my macbook or to change the avid file to something else so i can run it on quicktime?
I've been reading a lot on the process of downgrading from Lion to Snow Leopard. But it all seems a bit blurry as no actual facts are posted, and I couldn't find out if its only possible for machines that did not come with Lion pre-installed (mine did). I'm really keen on downgrading so I can get back to work. The compatibility with most of the audio plugins I use is not good, so I'd rather just keep working with the previous operating system. I have read a lot of the other threads on this matter, but the main point here is if it is possible to downgrade in a machine that came with Lion preinstalled. I've seen videos on how to do it, but they don't mention if it works on any Mac or only in those that, at some point, already had a version of Snow Leopard installed.
I have installed a free trial of Avid Media Composer 6. I had it on my computer and it was working fine, but I thought there was an issue so I unistalled it, and then reinstalled it. Now I am getting an error message whenever I attempt to open a project. It reads..."Segmentation fault" in thread "MainThread", at address     0x0 ... and then the Avid Media Composer shuts down. I have read that it is necessary to unistall any existing software first which is exactly what I did. Im using lion on a 2 ghz i7 macbook pro.
I have a G5 that was on 10.5.5. Then went back to 10.4 by doing an "Archive and Install" from a 10.4 install DVD (the one that one buys from Apple & is good for all computers). But now my applications will not work properly. My CS3 apps have reverted back to trial versions. FCP won't open. Disk Utilities says this version of OS doesn't support it.
After trying out the new iTunes DJ function with my iPhone I could not get it to work has any body else tryed using this new feature? If so what are your experiences? I updated the remote app on my phone yesterday, surely that is the correct version.
I'm trying to sell my old Mac Pro (with no AppleCare), but I want to get all of the problems figured out so nothing comes up after the buyer buys it.
My RAM configuration is as follows:
2x2GB, 4x1GB
It never reads the correct amount of ram (8GB). It fluctuates between 2GB and 6GB depending on my configuration, but recently it's only been 2-4GB. I'm currently troubleshooting which RAM trays/RAM slots/RAM sticks are giving me problems. It's looking like only the innermost two slots on the upper RAM tray are working. It doesn't matter which tray i insert on the upper tray slot. It only recognizes the innermost two slots.
I've done many AHT hardware tests on the logic board (well, the entire computer), which haven't found any problems.
That said, it looks like both my trays are okay, and all of my RAM sticks are okay, just the computer is only recognizing those inner slots. Could it possibly just be a software issue, or is it looking like a problem with the LB? I just really don't want to carry my Mac Pro all the way to the Apple Store. (I have to walk there)
We have some Education iMacs that I am having some problems with. XP can be fully up to date (except SP3) without any problems, they are connected to the domain, get an IP address, correctly sync time and process group policy settings at a computer level prior to the logon screen. All this is using the ethernet port (not wireless). As soon as SP3 is applied, they don't get a DHCP address until after login, therefore they don't sync time, process policies etc. If I uninstall SP3, back to working. I have reproduced this several times on different Macs (we have about 90 that are exhibiting this). Tried different version of bootcamp drivers.
If I reserve the address in DHCP, it doesn't make a difference. I seem to only have 2 options: 1. Manually enter an IP address in Windows (this is too time consuming) 2. Leave SP3 off (this means WSUS 3.0 SP2 won't work) Is there a newer ethernet driver outside the bootcamp package?
My hard drive crashed recently and I was able to put back everything on my MacBook's new hard drive as it was via Time Machine and my external hard drive - everything except Mail.
It put back my folders, but they were all empty - none of my emails were backed up - why is this and how can I ensure that Time Machine saves my emails when I back up? I have a Gmail account, so haven't lost my emails completely, but it's frustrating that they aren't filed as I had saved them and I will have to download them again.
I just opened up my new macbook pro. I am having trouble configuring the mail app. When I set it up to my yahoo account, it loads all the bulk mail, but my inbox stays empty even if my boyfriend sends me emails...how can I get this working properly? I have it set to update every minute, but its still not loading any emails....
