OS X Mavericks :: IMac 10.9 Recovery Disk Will Not Start?

Jun 1, 2014

I am having boot up problems on my imac 27-inch. I pressed the power button and press and held the Option key, I chose the Recovery disk, but the Recovery disk did not start, instead I have the grey Apple logo and it keeps running but will not start.

The imac 27-inch was bought refurbished in late 2010. I also have imac apple care from 2010 never used. First time problem. On pressing the Option key during startup, Mach Hard disk and Recovery Disk 10.9 is displayed.

Choosing mac hard disk does not boot up the OS instead I get a big Zero sign with line through it or a big flash question mark sign. Choosing the Recovery Disk 10.9 does not boot up Disk Utility, instead I get the grey Apple logo.

IMac (Intel) :: DVD Player Launches In Mavericks Using Recovery Mode Start Up But Not HD

Aug 26, 2014

Running mid-2009 iMac with latest Mavericks 10.9.4.

DVD Player has been performing perfectly in Snow Leopard until this update to Mavericks.

I've tried resetting SMC/NVRAM. Reinstalled Mavericks 3 times. Tried dumping the plist too. That did nothing. I've re-set SMC/NVRAM...done the Permissions using Disc Utility.

I can get a DVD to load selecting the Recovery Mode StartUp disk. Then I reboot and the DVD plays fine using the DVD controls. But ejecting and trying it again - it won't play.

OS X Mavericks :: MacBook Pro Only Turns On In Recovery - Disk Utility Can't Repair Disk

Sep 12, 2014

Macbook Pro running on OSX Mavericks is having problems.

Today I turned my Mac on, and it started up with a loading wheel and a loading bar. When the loading bar finished, the Mac turned itself off. I tried many times, same happened every time. I then went into OSX Recovery, started repairing Macintosh HD, but the error message saying "Disk Utility can't repair Macintosh HD" came up and now I don't now what to do.

Is there any way I can back up my files in this situation? Is there any way I can repair the disk without having to erase all data and reinstalling OSX? Or do I really need to bring it to a Apple Store for repair?

IMac (Intel) :: Will Not Boot Hard Disk And Recovery

Jun 1, 2014

The problem is that the mac will not boot period. When I press the Option on start up, it takes me to a screen where I could select to boot from the Macintosh Hard disk or Recovery 10.9 disk.Choosing either of these still does not boot up the computer.

I think that the hard disk is damaged but what I do not understand is why I can still get the option to choose the Hard disk or the Recovery disk.I am waiting to hear from Apple Support on when I can take my imac to the genius bar and I was wondering if there is anything I can do before then. Intel imac 27-inch bought refurbished in November 2010 with imac apple care.Intel quard core processor, 4 Gig RAM, 1 terabyte HD

Sep 8, 2014

I've got a problematic iMac running mavericks.  I tried to do a disk repair in Recovery Mode which didn't work (said it needed a disk repair but could not repair and that I should backup everything).  So then I tried to quit out of recovery and restart by choosing the Mac OS HD...it won't restart...it just keeps giving me the Recovery options front page.  What should I do?

OS X :: IMac Could Not Find Its Start Up Disk

Oct 27, 2009

My IMac is about 1 year old. It is a 20 inch 2.4 intel iMac. It froze today the mouse wouldn't move or anything. My kids were messing around with it. So I just turned it off and back on. After a couple of minutes of gray screen a folder with a question mark flashes over and over again. So I got on my macbook to see what it meant, I found out that the iMac couldn't find its start up disk. So I went to apple support trouble shooting and it said start it up using the install disc which I did. It said go to start up utility and repair the disc. The start up disc doesn't show up, so they said if that happens reset the PRAM, which I did like 3 times, and nothing. They said if all these steps fail just reinstall using the installation disc. Which I did but when it said where would you like to install Mac OS X, you would normally see the Hard Drive Icon and it is gone, there is nothing there.

OS X Mavericks :: Can't Start Up IMac?

Aug 28, 2014

Just installed OS X Mavericks for my iMac last night. Wanted to do it because it was the only way for me to continue playing this game.Took awhile to install, but checked this morning and it finished and it said "Restarting computer" after the completion of the installation.

I pressed the power button and booted it up like usual, but whenever I start it up, no log in screen pops up whatsoever. I pressed keys, clicked everywhere with the mouse but nothing. All it shows is a plain, grey screen and at the moment, there's no possible way for me to log in and get on. I searched up some methods and tried to "safe boot" it which I did but it did not work. It could've possibly worked but i can't tell because my iMac screen display is broken so I'm using dual monitors but nothing shows up on my second monitor. I tried turning it off and back on, but still did not work.

OS X Mavericks :: IMac Start Up With Apple Logo And Sound But Then Screen Turn Off

Jun 2, 2014

This situation began when I put my Imac on sleep. After, the screen turned on in black whit the cursor but I couldn't do anything.

Then to rebooted the machine, the apple logo and sound  began fine but the screen turned off, so moving the mouse the screen turned on in black with cursor.

I'd tried many ways, resetting the PRAM, SMC, repairing the disk and permission, analyzing hardware, repairing fsck files.

Suddenly, when I entered in Verbose mode, mi imac brought into user choose screen and worked fine, but when I shut down and tried to start my mac in the next day, it didn´t work again.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Recovery Disk Assistant Won't Run?

Jun 22, 2012

I have a MBP mid-2010, originally with Snow Leopard, but long since running Lion (currently the latest release, 10.7.4). When I installed Lion, I created a recovery partition on the MBP's boot disk. This was about 9 months ago. I now want to run Recovery Disk Assistant to create a recovery partition on an external disk, but when I start Recovery Disk Assistant it says: "Lion recovery could not be created"... because the recovery HD on this computer is damaged or not present...etc.

However, if I open a Terminal and run "Diskutil list", I see:

[Code]....

So, the recovery partition appears to be there. I presume Recovery Disk Assistant thinks it's damanged. However, I can hold down Alt/Option when booting my MBP and I see the recovery partition. I can even boot from the recovery partition and everything works as expected.
