OS X Mavericks :: What Happens If Click On Recovery 10.9.1
Aug 27, 2014
I am having problems with booting my wife's 2010 iMac. It never boots completely. I gets to a point where the screen flashes over and over a message something about opening (or not) windows which were open when I shut down.
When I hold the OPTION key at startup I get the 'option' to start up with my system hard drive or Recovery 10.9.1.
What happens if I click on Recovery 10.9.1?

I have been running Mavericks 10.9.5 quite from few months and yesterday I downloaded Yosemite from Mac appstore,
The installation was struck and I initiated OS X Recovery, It downloaded and it didn't installed successfully either
My system was Mac mini 2012.
During the entire process I have used more than 20 GB and I have exhaust my Internet quota for this month.
This is the log I am getting every time I use Install OS X from recovery, is the log errors are common.

I recently experienced trouble with my iMac Late 2012. As a result of this I was wanting to do the step of reinstalling the OS completely. Complete with Time Machine backup and so on. So far so good.
As I tried booting into recovery holding R nothing happened. Tried again booting with options hold down. It then only showed me my hard drive to choose from. With another Mac I made a bootable Flash Drive which worked perfectly in my MacBook Air. So tried booting to the flash drive with my iMac by holding C and then again with options and again I was presented only my regular hard drive.
I already did this terminal thing { diskutil list; echo; diskutil cs list; } | open -f -a TextEdit and the result showed that there is no Recovery Partition installed. Still no problem. I did research and found out that it is possible to reinstall it by reinstalling Mavericks. No the only problem is: It won"t let me reinstall anything. I only got prompted a message that it can't be installed on my hard drive.
So now my question: Is there any other possibility to get rid of anything there is on my hard drive and do a clean fresh install of Mavericks?

it's embarrasing to say that somehow it turned out I erased my recovery partition. Some weeks ago I was trying very hard to set up three OS's in my MBP, installing and reinstalling many times Windows 8 and Ubuntu, in one of those reinstalling I saw the recovery partition from Windows, I didn't want this to be visible, but being so tired of trying I erased this partition, I don't remember if from Windows or from Mac Disk Utility or from GParted, but I erased it because I wanted to "see" the partition system very "stable", without any odd partition seemingly "useless" near there. After reading a little I realized it was the partition OS X uses to recover the system, I don't know if to reinstall the whole system or only to recover it. I want to reestablish this partition in order for everything to be fine. How to do it? If possible I know I would have to resize some partition because there is no more 600 MB partition, I was left with an 128 MB unallocated partition. I put some screenshots of what the whole disk partition looks like, in Disk Utility and GParted.

I have Mavericks installed as the OS on a MBP 2011. I had some hangups with my encrypted harddrive. After using disk utility from an account to verify and repair the disk I was instructed to boot in recovery mode (by pressing command and 'R' after reboot). I've now used disk utility in recovery mode, the hard drive is repaired, but when I restart the computer I get a folder with a "?" on it that flashes. Very different from the password screen popping up within seconds after booting (since it's encrypted).
I also verified and repaired permissions and am wondering if that could have affected the order of things during booting. Since the HD is encrypted I know the password needs to be entered before system can use any of the information on it, including the OS.
I prefer the idea of not useing time capsule since I believe I'd need to repair the HD again. The idea of unencrypting after a backup and then encrypting after repair doesn't sound appealing either.
How do I reboot the system so I can enter the encryption password and allow the system to boot as normal?

I have a mid-2010 13" MacBook Pro running Mavericks, and a new 2 TB Time Capsule. I'm trying to install a new internal SSD to replace the four-year old one it came with. I swapped the new SSD in with no trouble, and booted my computer into Internet Recovery. I selected the option to rebuild my machine based on a Time Machine backup, and it churns away for a while until it hits about 85% installed, and then it reboots (and fails to startup properly, giing me a spinner on the gray apple screen).
The new SSD is twice the size of the old one. I've put it in an external enclosure and mounted it, ran disk utility on it to make sure that it's working properly. I can't think what else to do, and I can't imagine why it fails at the same point in the rebuild every time!

I am having boot up problems on my imac 27-inch. I pressed the power button and press and held the Option key, I chose the Recovery disk, but the Recovery disk did not start, instead I have the grey Apple logo and it keeps running but will not start.
The imac 27-inch was bought refurbished in late 2010. I also have imac apple care from 2010 never used. First time problem. On pressing the Option key during startup, Mach Hard disk and Recovery Disk 10.9 is displayed.
Choosing mac hard disk does not boot up the OS instead I get a big Zero sign with line through it or a big flash question mark sign. Choosing the Recovery Disk 10.9 does not boot up Disk Utility, instead I get the grey Apple logo.

I've got a problematic iMac running mavericks. I tried to do a disk repair in Recovery Mode which didn't work (said it needed a disk repair but could not repair and that I should backup everything). So then I tried to quit out of recovery and restart by choosing the Mac OS HD...it won't restart...it just keeps giving me the Recovery options front page. What should I do?

I am a mac newbie, but experienced linux and windows user. I am trying to restore my mac mini (mid 2011) running mavericks. The process should normally be very simple; press command-R keys while booting to start recovery mode and go from there.
Unfortunately my keyboard is a palm-sized keyboard without command or windows keys. So I am stuck. I have 2 windows laptops that I can use to remote login but I cannot do remote login during boot.
I tried mapping the Command key to Ctrl key inside OS X, but it seems like this only works after reboot.
I tried to use recovery disk assistant as it requires "Option" key, but the assistant does not allow me select the HD, as I guess I do not have a recovery system on the HD.
I tried doing network install, but it requires the install CD, which I don't have. I have an ipad and two iphones if it

I recently purchased an SSD and plan to do the upgrade to my Macbook Pro early 2011.
What I'm planning to do is the following:Remove old HDDInstall SSD out of the box (un-formatted with no data on it)Boot up Macbook and start OSX Internet recoveryInstall OSX Mavericks
My question is, doing Internet recovery will apple Store let me install Mavericks right away or will I have to install
the original OS that the system originally shipped with (Mountain Lion) first and then install Mavericks?

Running latest Mavericks on my late 2007 iMac. Recently had to do a Time Machine recovery and since my machine randomly restarts by itself when left unattended. While monitoring Console the following message keeps repeating and suspect it is the root of the problem.....

I am running OS X Mavericks 10.9.5 on an iMac 27" mid 2011. If I run OS X Recovery on my system just to wipe everything clean and start fresh. Will I also loose all my other Apps and installed software like MS Office, Adobe CS6, etc. etc.? If so, how can I do a system recovery without losing all my current apps or programs. I don't have any of the original disks.

Running mid-2009 iMac with latest Mavericks 10.9.4.
DVD Player has been performing perfectly in Snow Leopard until this update to Mavericks.
I've tried resetting SMC/NVRAM. Reinstalled Mavericks 3 times. Tried dumping the plist too. That did nothing. I've re-set SMC/NVRAM...done the Permissions using Disc Utility.
I can get a DVD to load selecting the Recovery Mode StartUp disk. Then I reboot and the DVD plays fine using the DVD controls. But ejecting and trying it again - it won't play.

I had to do a "recovery" from Time Machine backup and since Safari will quit unexpectedly every time and I have to use Firefox.
The must do "recovery" came about because the system was hanging with the gearbox spinning and never starting up the system.
My system is: Mac Pro early 2008 running on OS X 10.9.4. Before the permanent hangs system as running very, very slow.

I'm on a 2008 model Mac Pro 8-core system for work. For whatever reason it doesn't have a recovery partition. I read that if I don't have a recovery partition, I can't make a recovery USB bootable drive....so how do I make one? And no, I cannot reinstall the OS on here, that would be beyond detrimental to what's going on here. (too many details to get into)
Alternatively, can I make one with my 10.8.5 MacbookPro at home and run it here on my Lion system?

I can't left click in any apple apps in the main admin user. Other users no problem but problem too weird for me to track down
I CAN left-click in finder, system prefs, Safari, Pages, stickies and any and every thirt party app without a problem.
BUT, Mail, Contacts, Preview, Maps, Aperture, Notes, iCal, stickies I can scroll and right click but not select anything. Nor can I close or minimize windows.
CMD-P in an unresponsive app brings up the print dialog but can't choose any pdf options or any other options
Affected apps can be moved from the title bar but not resized , restarted multiple times, reset pram, trashed prefs of affected apps as well as bluetooth.
