OS X V10.7 Lion :: ICloud Locked - Mac Restarts From Recovery Disk?
Apr 10, 2012before a week ago i locked my macbook pro from icloud. something bud happened. my mac reboots and starts from recovery disk. the only think came to my mind is to install snow leopard from my installation disk(came with laptop) and then install lion.this is something i have done before and works ok.when snow leopard had succefully install i open app store and download my allready purchace mac os lion. when dowload finished i install it and nothing went ok. it puts me again to the recovery page and says re-install lion or online help etc. the only think that i could do is to delete recovery hd and install lion.when i did this it works but my software doesn't work right and find my mac not works.
i create again by myshelf a recovery hd drive and when i restart the laptop it opens from there not from os lion. so i open the terminal using my snow leopard disk and delete the recovery hd again.

Sep 12, 2014Macbook Pro running on OSX Mavericks is having problems.
Today I turned my Mac on, and it started up with a loading wheel and a loading bar. When the loading bar finished, the Mac turned itself off. I tried many times, same happened every time. I then went into OSX Recovery, started repairing Macintosh HD, but the error message saying "Disk Utility can't repair Macintosh HD" came up and now I don't now what to do.
Is there any way I can back up my files in this situation? Is there any way I can repair the disk without having to erase all data and reinstalling OSX? Or do I really need to bring it to a Apple Store for repair?

Aug 29, 2014I wanted to do a clean install and repartition my iMac running 10.8. It has 2 partitions. I booted from the recovery disk, went to Disk Utility and erased the two partitions. However, when I tried to change to a single partition got the error message "cannot unmount disk."

OS X Mavericks :: IMac 10.9 Recovery Disk Will Not Start?
Jun 1, 2014I am having boot up problems on my imac 27-inch. I pressed the power button and press and held the Option key, I chose the Recovery disk, but the Recovery disk did not start, instead I have the grey Apple logo and it keeps running but will not start.
The imac 27-inch was bought refurbished in late 2010. I also have imac apple care from 2010 never used. First time problem. On pressing the Option key during startup, Mach Hard disk and Recovery Disk 10.9 is displayed.
Choosing mac hard disk does not boot up the OS instead I get a big Zero sign with line through it or a big flash question mark sign. Choosing the Recovery Disk 10.9 does not boot up Disk Utility, instead I get the grey Apple logo.

When I try to erase the disk, the error message says it is unable to erase.

Jul 18, 2009first off, long time MacRumors reader, finally joined the forum now in search of some aid.There are some other threads on a similar topic I know, but I was hoping for some So, the Hard drive in question is a Western Digital 5400rpm 320gig purchased from Amazon about 8 months ago, now the Hard drive has decided to die. I saw some early signs, but did not realise that the drive was in that bad of a condition at the time. Now, when attempting to boot into Mac OS X I get stuck at the Apple logo, with the little wheel spinning infinitely. I had a boot camp partition which worked, but could not help me and is no longer an option either. I tried using the Leopard boot disk, but Disk utility didnt do anything for me in terms of recovery or repair, I attempted to use the terminal to make an Image of the drive on an external, but it fails about 10% through, I'm assuming from corrupted data.

I put the drive in a disk drive enclosure via USB but my new Mac, Mac Pro Intel, 10.4.11 cannot read the drive. I get an error message, "this drive is not readable by this computer, eject, initialize". It sees the USB drive in disk utility but cannot see the data.

Jun 26, 2012I use an external hard drive for Time Machine backups and to store some larger video files in a folder called Videos. The Videos folder on the external drive is now locked and I can't unlock it. I go to Get Info, hit the lock icon and enter my password, but the "Locked" checkbox is greyed out in the General section. In the Sharing and Permissions section, instead of displaying my name, it says "Fetching . . ." and I can't change the Privilege from "Write Only".

MacBook Pro :: Disk Utility Recovery Of Files After Deleting From External Hard Drive?
Jun 10, 2012I had downloaded some files to add to an external hard drive, the hard drive was assigned to a pc before adding these files so it wouldn't let me add files from my MacBook..
Had a look around online and made some changes (well thats what I thought) and I was able to transfer files form my MacBook onto the external hard drive.
What I then figured out was that there was nothing left on the hard drive except for the two file sI just transferred..
It turns out I deleted everyting without noticing.
The stpes I followed was to go to disk utility then select the hard drive and click erase (not knowing this would erase evrything).
So now I have two files on my hard drive and no idea how to recover the 'delted' files.
I tried using Disk Drill, which found the files but then it said I need to buy the full version to recover them.
I am wondering if there is any free methods to recover these files at all

Sep 12, 2014I'm on a 2008 model Mac Pro 8-core system for work. For whatever reason it doesn't have a recovery partition. I read that if I don't have a recovery partition, I can't make a recovery USB bootable drive....so how do I make one? And no, I cannot reinstall the OS on here, that would be beyond detrimental to what's going on here. (too many details to get into)
Alternatively, can I make one with my 10.8.5 MacbookPro at home and run it here on my Lion system?

Apr 10, 2009Next year when snow leopard will be released I was thinking to upgrade my poor 60gb hard disk to something more probably to a 320 one, but I got one problem I lost my recovery disk and actually I don't really need it as you know Tiger is very stable.
When my old macbook will have inside the new hard disk do I need to reinstall tiger then upgrade it to snow leopard or I can directly install snow leopard?

Feb 15, 2010I inherited a 3+ year old MacBook (2GHz Intel Core Duo, 2GB RAM) that was working fine until I dropped it! After that, it was very slow to start up and wouldn't open some applications, so I bought a new hard drive and reinstalled the OS and now it's back on its proverbial feet. The problem is, since it was actually not my computer to begin with, when I booted up from the 10.6 SL DVD, I opted to do a full install from the disc and re-register it under my name. Then I used migration assistant to transfer all my applications and data from a Time Machine backup. Now all the disk permissions are off and I'm locked out of some applications and folders. I tried using DiskWarrior, OnyX, and the SL DVD to repair permissions, but they never actually repaired, just detected.

Aug 25, 2014I wish to change partition scheme, sizes, in an external drive. All the partitions are MacOS extended (Journaled) and they map, according to the layout in Disk Utility, as follows: Partion 1, 2, 3,4 where 1 is at the top and 4, the bottom. I want to make partition 2 larger, so I decreased partition 1 by half. Now the layout is 1 a, 1b, 2,3,4., where 1b is now free space. Disk Utility will not allow me to increase the size of partition 2 by dragging the corner. Which of the following options (if any) will allow me to increase the size of partition 2, without erasing the data, using Disk Utility:Select partition 2 and manually writing a new value in the size box, equal to the present partition’s size plus the free space?If I delete partition 1 completely, will I then be able to increase the size of partition 2?If I delete partitions 1, 3, and 4, will I then be allowed to increase the size of partion 2?Is there another option?
(Actually, partition 3 is an eDrive, a data recovery utility created by TechTool Pro 7, so I don’t really know how it’s formatted.)

Dec 9, 2014Cannot open iTunes. Get message "The folder “iTunes” is on a locked disk or you do not have write permissions for this folder." Happened after iMac crashed and was restored from Time Machine. I shut down the iMac for 4 days and when started up said I need to erase HD and restore from Time Machine. That seemed to work fine but just tried to open iTunes 12.0.1.26 and keep getting the above message.
