How do I obtain a recovery disk for my Macbook Pro? None was supplied when bought

Macbook Pro running on OSX Mavericks is having problems.
Today I turned my Mac on, and it started up with a loading wheel and a loading bar. When the loading bar finished, the Mac turned itself off. I tried many times, same happened every time. I then went into OSX Recovery, started repairing Macintosh HD, but the error message saying "Disk Utility can't repair Macintosh HD" came up and now I don't now what to do.
Is there any way I can back up my files in this situation? Is there any way I can repair the disk without having to erase all data and reinstalling OSX? Or do I really need to bring it to a Apple Store for repair?

Next year when snow leopard will be released I was thinking to upgrade my poor 60gb hard disk to something more probably to a 320 one, but I got one problem I lost my recovery disk and actually I don't really need it as you know Tiger is very stable.
When my old macbook will have inside the new hard disk do I need to reinstall tiger then upgrade it to snow leopard or I can directly install snow leopard?
with my G5 I need to get a new hard drive since the old one died. to format the new hard drive do I need a start up disk or a recovery disk.

I wanted to do a clean install and repartition my iMac running 10.8. It has 2 partitions. I booted from the recovery disk, went to Disk Utility and erased the two partitions. However, when I tried to change to a single partition got the error message "cannot unmount disk."

My original hdd refuses to boot up, and using disk utility via recovery mode to try and fix it just gives me an error "disk utility stopped repairing the drive, salvage data and format etc." giving an error about invalid node structure or something. Tried using target disk mode with a friend's mac when I was at work but the drive didn't even want to mount. Assuming it's about to die, I have just bought a new hdd (XT Hybrid) and since my mac is pre-Lion era (2010 model) I don't have a built in recovery mode, but strangely enough hooking up my old hdd with a dock and option-booting to it I can still access the recovery HD partition on it.
So I was thinking if i can essentially "clone" my original hdd to the new one using the restore tab on disk utility, and try using disk repair on it to get it working? or is there another app I can use that will do this (being mindful that I don't have access to another mac or the OS on the HDD to run it, so it'll have to be "live", and preferably free) Or should I just cut my losses and just put a fresh install on it... Yes I do have a time machine backup, but there's two reasons I want to see if this works - one is that although time machine is quite up to date (within a week I'm guessing, can't remember), it's obviously won't have the new content created during the day(s) before I was able to plug in my external hdd, and secondly since I don't have access to another mac to create a lion install usb drive, I'll have to use the internet recovery, and knowing my internet connection, 4gb download would take probably overnight and nearly a whole day to finish (assuming it doesn't drop out).

I wanted to install Windows 7 to my Macbook Pro Lion using Bootcamp. I opened Bootcamp Assistant, it told me first to make a partition, then to insert a disk. I tought what if i insert recovery disk of Win7 that left from another computer.. So I inserted it and it told me to install Win7 and there was no exit button or anything like that. I switched computer off then on again and it again started Win. disk and it wont eject ether. Then with some miracle I ejected it, restarted and it gave me black screen with "no bootable device, please insert disk and press any button". I thought it wont leave me till I install it, so I inserted the disk again, and tryed to install it. During the installation it asks me where it should be installed, I chouse disk marked as bootcamp, also I had to format it because it was in fornat (something three letters) and it needed to be in format (something four letters). Then Windows installed, it is also not registered (only 3 days) and I can access Mac OS, when restart - it starts like Windows. There is no drivers for anithing, I cant connect to the internet even.

Is it possible to back up files using an external hard-drive while in recovery(disk utility aka boot up holding command+r)? My MBP wont boot past the spinning wheel and apple logo and I may have to erase and restore my HD.

After partitioning my hard drive, I was not able to boot up my computer. Currently it is stuck at the white screen when it boots up. I tried using the USB Recovery Disk to boot up however it does not seem like it is responding to anything
I pressed C while having the USB inserted I also tried pressing D to go in to the Apple Hardware Test nothing happened.
I also tried resetting the VRAM? It did beep and it reset however I still can't bootup

My hard drive decided to quit after only 22 months! Some files were backed up but my current photo albums were not. That's all I really need, I don't care about all the other junk. I've tried booting from the Disk Warrior cd, which Apple Genuis Bar suggested since they don't do data recovery.
So it there another way I can do this myself or should I just bring it to Fry's for $149?
Another question would be, after I recover the files, I'd like to upgrade my MacBook Pro 13 to a Solid State drive. I know I need a 2.5" SATA, but which brand/size is good for a $200-$300 budget?

When I try turning the computer on, I get the option to choose the startup disk, but only Recovery is visible. When i check in Recovery, it still shows my original start up disk, but I cannot restart off that. What do I do?

I had downloaded some files to add to an external hard drive, the hard drive was assigned to a pc before adding these files so it wouldn't let me add files from my MacBook..
Had a look around online and made some changes (well thats what I thought) and I was able to transfer files form my MacBook onto the external hard drive.
What I then figured out was that there was nothing left on the hard drive except for the two file sI just transferred..
It turns out I deleted everyting without noticing.
The stpes I followed was to go to disk utility then select the hard drive and click erase (not knowing this would erase evrything).
So now I have two files on my hard drive and no idea how to recover the 'delted' files.
I tried using Disk Drill, which found the files but then it said I need to buy the full version to recover them.
I am wondering if there is any free methods to recover these files at all

i have a hard drive i use mostly in Windows that i lost data and want to recover it. i've played with some of the free utilities on the internet but they either take too long or aren't very good.
since Tiger reads NTFS partitions i was going to try it on my Mac Mini.
i usually use a laptop and don't have time to leave the recover running for 10 hours or more. any good free utilities out there?
How i can create a dvd/cd recovery disk instead usb?

I would be interested to know if updating, for example, Lion 10.7.2 to 10.7.3, or 10.7.3 to 10.7.4, also updates the System on the Lion Recovery Disk.
I thought I could find out by booting on the Recovery Disk, but there's no "About this Mac" item in this System's Apple menu.

I have a MBP mid-2010, originally with Snow Leopard, but long since running Lion (currently the latest release, 10.7.4). When I installed Lion, I created a recovery partition on the MBP's boot disk. This was about 9 months ago. I now want to run Recovery Disk Assistant to create a recovery partition on an external disk, but when I start Recovery Disk Assistant it says: "Lion recovery could not be created"... because the recovery HD on this computer is damaged or not present...etc.
However, if I open a Terminal and run "Diskutil list", I see:
[Code]....
So, the recovery partition appears to be there. I presume Recovery Disk Assistant thinks it's damanged. However, I can hold down Alt/Option when booting my MBP and I see the recovery partition. I can even boot from the recovery partition and everything works as expected.

I just got an apple ibook g4 from a pawn shop. But it did not come with a recovery disk. The master password is still on there and I don't know it. What should I do? Who ever had it before me did not clear everything off of it.
View 2 Replies View Relatedfirst off, long time MacRumors reader, finally joined the forum now in search of some aid. There are some other threads on a similar topic I know, but I was hoping for some So, the Hard drive in question is a Western Digital 5400rpm 320gig purchased from Amazon about 8 months ago, now the Hard drive has decided to die. I saw some early signs, but did not realise that the drive was in that bad of a condition at the time. Now, when attempting to boot into Mac OS X I get stuck at the Apple logo, with the little wheel spinning infinitely. I had a boot camp partition which worked, but could not help me and is no longer an option either. I tried using the Leopard boot disk, but Disk utility didnt do anything for me in terms of recovery or repair, I attempted to use the terminal to make an Image of the drive on an external, but it fails about 10% through, I'm assuming from corrupted data.

However, I noticed while trying to set up Boot Camp that I no longer have a Recovery Disk partition with Lion. How can I set this feature back up on my new hard drive?

View 1 Replies View RelatedIt was bad sign and I had to take my computer to the Apple service.
The intern disk had to be replaced and they told me that they can't recover the date ( not in theyr shop)
How works the data recovery once the disk is out of the computer ? Is there necessarily a "white room" process wich is very expensive ?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am having boot up problems on my imac 27-inch. I pressed the power button and press and held the Option key, I chose the Recovery disk, but the Recovery disk did not start, instead I have the grey Apple logo and it keeps running but will not start.
The imac 27-inch was bought refurbished in late 2010. I also have imac apple care from 2010 never used. First time problem. On pressing the Option key during startup, Mach Hard disk and Recovery Disk 10.9 is displayed.
Choosing mac hard disk does not boot up the OS instead I get a big Zero sign with line through it or a big flash question mark sign. Choosing the Recovery Disk 10.9 does not boot up Disk Utility, instead I get the grey Apple logo.

I bought a 2nd hand Apple MacBook about 18 months ago (via eBay). It is my first Mac. It did not come with its original OS X 10.5.8 Installation Disc/s and I now have one or more problems with my Hard Drive, so I need the Installation Disc/s.where I can buy the correct (genuine) version of Installation Disc/s for my MacBook?

My old Mac, G4 tower running 10.4.11 died. I need to recover data from the hard drive. I put the drive in a disk drive enclosure via USB but my new Mac, Mac Pro Intel, 10.4.11 cannot read the drive. I get an error message, "this drive is not readable by this computer, eject, initialize". It sees the USB drive in disk utility but cannot see the data.

before a week ago i locked my macbook pro from icloud. something bud happened. my mac reboots and starts from recovery disk. the only think came to my mind is to install snow leopard from my installation disk(came with laptop) and then install lion.this is something i have done before and works ok.when snow leopard had succefully install i open app store and download my allready purchace mac os lion. when dowload finished i install it and nothing went ok. it puts me again to the recovery page and says re-install lion or online help etc. the only think that i could do is to delete recovery hd and install lion.when i did this it works but my software doesn't work right and find my mac not works.
i create again by myshelf a recovery hd drive and when i restart the laptop it opens from there not from os lion. so i open the terminal using my snow leopard disk and delete the recovery hd again.

Since I planned to upgrade the stock disk on my macbook pro I created a USB stick backup of the Lion OS using Lion recovery disk assistant. It built a bootable copy of my Lion OS. I replaced the drive, booted from the USB stick Lion, formatted the new drive with disk utility with one OSX partition, and bunch of Linux partitions for the planned dual/triple/etc. boot. I then used the recovery disk menu to reinstall OSX on the new disk. It took off and started the download just like while booting with R key or from the recovery partition AGAIN!. This is a 2 hour proposition and is totally ridiculous. I need to be able to reinstall without downloading Lion every time. how to stop this new Apple invention from doing this download?
