I have noticed this little program called auto-complete pro that is now on my computer on Safari. Anytime I search for something on the internet, the auto-complete bar that is normally there is covered up by a separate one by autocomplete pro. It is a known malware program, that I found in my research, but most people have asked how to get rid of it on Firefox or windows, now Safari. I am running OS X snow leopard, I believe. I have looked under extensions, there is nothing there.

I downloaded Mackeeper and it told me junk was slowing down my Mac but after it asked for $88 i quickly uninstalled it. Im worried it left a virus that slowed down my Macbook Pro. Even tho everyone says Macs don't need antivirus ware, is there something i can run to make sure there isn't anything harmful leftover? Also what is safe to use to clear out junk to improve how my Mac runs?

I have some kind of malware present on my MacBook Air from trying to download a "flash player". I get full page pop-up ads for "mackeeper" and the like nearly every time I click on a link, have annoying ads on pages that I know weren't there before I downloaded this "program", and am now seeing other pop-up ads. As soon as I downloaded this program, my search engine changed to "Conduit". What can I do to get rid of this?

I'm having trouble with Browsers. I rotate between Safari, Aurora, and Chrome. But all three of them eventually choke of resources and hog the cpu. Sometimes quitting the broswer works but most of the time, I reboot of OS X is needed to clean up the resource logjam. My practice of using a lot of windows and tabs is at least part of it. But if varys on different days. Thist week began a new bothersome and worrisome behavior that has malware fingerprints. Sometimes when I click on a link on a window that is "normal" size (say 60% height and 60% width of screen), a full screen pops up over everything and something I didn't ask for shows up. There are several cases of what shows up.
1. Some times it is a window that advises me to clean up my Mac offering a tool to do that (I've seen this offer all the time but I cannot recall which one it is but it is very common--I think the thing that was offered was Mac Keeper about which I have heard bad things so I avoid it. It appears to have a foot hold on my system). clock the red close button on the window (or Cmd-W) and it disappears and the window it came from reappears and is functional. I can no click the same link I had used before and now it works. Sometimes, but not always, later windows as I navigate do the same thing.
2. Today, when I went to URL.../support and clicked on discussions, a full scren window popped up with the URL.....or some other thing - I've only captured the two URLs. If I close that popped up window

I do have ext. backup using Time Machine... is that my solution? i just set that up about a week ago, but I'm such a computer dummie... I've never used it before....

View 1 Replies View RelatedI was just browsing on Safari when I went to a website and this mackeeper pop up ad came up. It tells me that to keep my mac safe or whatever, I have to install this mackeeper thing. I knew it was a virus so I was trying to figure out how to close it but there is no option to close it, the only option is to click ok. i've tried command+w and that doesn't work either. I have also tried to force quit safari but when I open up safari again, it re-opens the tab. i got my macbook in january of this year, i really don't want it to get a virus lol.

View 4 Replies View RelatedMy mac book pro keeps switching from google home page to "search only" or "only search" in my safari preferences and if I google something it redirects to use the yahoo search engine. I also keep getting macKeeper and zeboit pop ups. I have never downloaded macKeeper and can't find the virus or malware in my apps, downloads, or finder. Someone told me it was my adobe flash player so i deleted that and anything else that looked like garbage on my mac but nothing has changed.

Does anyone know of any utility software for the Mac that is as robust as MacKeeper but can run on older versions of the MacOS (10.4 and below, G4 or below)? I wanted to try MacKeeper but it only runs on Intel-based Macs running 10.5.
