MacBook Air :: OS X Mavericks (10.9.4) How To Get Rid Of Malware

Aug 22, 2014

I have some kind of malware present on my MacBook Air from trying to download a "flash player". I get full page pop-up ads for "mackeeper" and the like nearly every time I click on a link, have annoying ads on pages that I know weren't there before I downloaded this "program", and am now seeing other pop-up ads. As soon as I downloaded this program, my search engine changed to "Conduit". What can I do to get rid of this?

OS X Mavericks :: Spam Malware In Chrome Browsing On IMac 10.9.4

Aug 22, 2014

I'm having trouble with Browsers.  I rotate between Safari, Aurora, and Chrome. But all three of them eventually choke of resources and hog the cpu.  Sometimes quitting the broswer works but most of the time, I reboot of OS X is needed to clean up the resource logjam. My practice of using a lot of windows and tabs is at least part of it.  But if varys on different days.  Thist week began a new bothersome and worrisome behavior that has malware fingerprints.  Sometimes when I click on a link on a window that is "normal" size (say 60% height and 60% width of screen), a full screen pops up over everything and something I didn't ask for shows up.  There are several cases of what shows up.

1.  Some times it is a window that advises me to clean up my Mac offering a tool to do that (I've seen this offer all the time but I cannot recall which one it is but it is very common--I think the thing that was offered was Mac Keeper about which I have heard bad things so I avoid it.  It appears to have a foot hold on my system).  clock the red close button on the window (or Cmd-W) and it disappears and the window it came from reappears and is functional.  I can no click the same link I had used before and now it works.  Sometimes, but not always, later windows as I navigate do the same thing.

2.  Today, when I went to URL.../support and clicked on discussions, a full scren window popped up with the URL.....or some other thing - I've only captured the two URLs. If I close that popped up window

Do Have Malware On Macbook

Jun 29, 2012

Using Firefox 13.0 and 13.01 Have a vague recollection of doing an update of Flash or Java but am not certain.I've been reading a lot of info around this problem- none of it describes the exact problem I am having.

1. Suddenly I am unable to get Google.I click Google in the search bar (upper right in firefox window)or type it into the address bar and it just hangs.May connect after a very, very long time. Also... many websites will not stop loading unless I click the X in the address bar.Yahoo (which I had never used until now) comes up quickly.

2.I did the security update. The next time I used Google, it opened quickly.Did searches. Back to normal.

Or so I thought.

3.Within a couple of hours, was back to previous behaviour even if I get to the Google home page, it will not do a search.

4.Repeated all of the above with Safari. Same story.

5.Have checked with Activity monitor with Thomas Reed's malware list -

and can not see anything that seems to co-relate.

MacBook Pro :: IOS 8.1.1 - How To Get Rid Of Malware Like Ad Pop Ups

Dec 7, 2014

I have an Apple laptop (MacBook Pro late 2011). Lately, ads have been popping out all over the place everytime I click my mouse to move to another webpage or even within a webpage. Sometimes, the popups open first than the page I wanted. I know this is malware but I don't know to how get rid of them. Since Safari is my browser, everytime the popups become unbearable I would go to the Preferences and delete the cookies....And start all over again. I've called the Apple Support once and they didn't notice anything wrong with my hardware. It's this malware attached to certain programs or sites....

MacBook :: Remove The Mal/Badsrc-M Malware?

Mar 19, 2012

An email from an old friend contained an innocuous-looking link that led to a Mal/Badsrc-M virus landing on the hard drive, in the Firefox Library.  It is not removable.  In Trash, it leaves a copy where it was removed.  In emptying Trash, it replicates intensively so that Trash cannot be emptied until the file is returned to where it was found.  Then, Time Machine stays in "Preparing" mode and does not back up the drive. Online information via Sophos declares this virus to affect only Windows.  I beg to differ.

OS X Yosemite :: How To Remove Malware From MacBook Air

Dec 11, 2014

What is the best way to remove malware from my MacBook Air running Yosemite? I tried searching the forums but most of the answers I found said OS X is immune from them or did not apply at all. I was having problems with copy/paste not working correctly and other weird issues so I restarted my MacBook Air. Now when the computer starts, this ZipCloud window pops up. The last thing I installed was Dragon Dictation. Could that be the problem? Anyway, I just want to know how to get rid of this ZipCloud popup and anything else that got installed that I don't know about and don't want.

MacBook Pro :: How To Get Rid Of Rootkit Spyware And Trojan Malware

Aug 20, 2014

Every time I go to open my safari browser a little grey box appears saying I am getting unauthorized access on my browsers. I believe this problem has occurred from streaming a movie.

The box also says this network may be infected. I then click okay and a red screen appears with a white box with writing in it saying to call a phone number immediately and that my mac has found two malicious viruses but I have read online that this isn't a virus just something attached to online streaming.

I don't know if I should download a program to get rid of this or to do something else. I tried to reset safari but it didn't work.

OS X :: How To Check If There Is Malware On Mac

Nov 5, 2010

I had visited a website then was told that I might get a malware there. I haven't seen anything suspicious on my Mac. I didn't give my administrator password to any pop up dialog either. My OS is Snow Leopard. Here's the link to that website (please don't click on it if you think it might be dangerous) http://x-cafevn-db.info
How could I check if my Mac already got infected?

A second question: about Symantec Antivirus. I installed and removed this software long time ago when I was using Tiger. After upgrading (not clean install) to Snow Leopard, there are errors message pop up every time I start the system. This didn't happen with Tiger though. The message says: "Symantec Antivirus Error. Symantec AntiVirus Auto-Protec could not continue. Please run LiveUpdate or reinstall Symantec AntiVirus and restart. (Code: 10)". No file shows up when I search for Symantec in Finder. How could I get rid of those messages?
