Does anyone know of any utility software for the Mac that is as robust as MacKeeper but can run on older versions of the MacOS (10.4 and below, G4 or below)? I wanted to try MacKeeper but it only runs on Intel-based Macs running 10.5.
View 3 RepliesI meant to ask this a while ago, but just getting to it now. My powerbook makes this very weird nose that I find not only annoying, but concerning. Whenever I move my mouse around, it sounds like the HDD begins doing some action and it makes a noise similar to running disk utility. Also when I have the screen open and if I carry the powerbook, say for example of I want to hand it to someone or show them something, a medium to high pitched noise comes on again emanating from the HDD area. What the heck is going on?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've installed and deleted quite a few programs off my MBP so far and I'm curious if there is a function/utility similar to Windows Disk Defrag on a Mac? In the event that there are some files I forgot to delete, I just wanted to make sure I got rid of all the files and not have old uninstalled program data hogging up space on my hard drive. I'm still in a Windows state of mind since I just recently purchased my MBP so I'm not sure if the MBP will automatically remove all the files once a program is deleted or if some residual program files still remain even after I delete a program.

I was just browsing on Safari when I went to a website and this mackeeper pop up ad came up. It tells me that to keep my mac safe or whatever, I have to install this mackeeper thing. I knew it was a virus so I was trying to figure out how to close it but there is no option to close it, the only option is to click ok. i've tried command+w and that doesn't work either. I have also tried to force quit safari but when I open up safari again, it re-opens the tab. i got my macbook in january of this year, i really don't want it to get a virus lol.

I also keep getting macKeeper and zeboit pop ups. I have never downloaded macKeeper and can't find the virus or malware in my apps, downloads, or finder. Someone told me it was my adobe flash player so i deleted that and anything else that looked like garbage on my mac but nothing has changed.

Unfortunately, it removed the Windows partition (not really the partition), which I really need now. It didn't remove the partition but it cleared the system cache. I discovered it when i downloaded a hybrid for my BlackBerry (sorry Apple,. I'm going to switch to an iPhone soon. ) and the file I downloaded can only be used on Windows. So i turned the mac off, (to switch to windows via holding the "alt/option", and to my surprise, it didn't show the Windows partition! So i was wondering, how can I get the Windows partition b ack without reformatting and installing again since i have all the important files there?

I have been using Mackeeper for several months and recently that product and its' maaketing company have been in the middle of a firestorm of public comment sand reviews. Being a csual user of computers and not having a strong background in programming or software, it is very hard to try and make sense of the extremely strong and conflicting reviews and comments on sites such as Mac Update. Does Apple have an official position on this product? Or, where can I go to get some reviews or opinions on this product without all of the vitriolic commentary?

I had a MacKeeper icon pop up on my dashboard and my screen tell me I needed to get this to clean up my Mac Pro and protect it from viruses. It looked legit because I wondered how it got onto my dashboard. I installed it but when I moved through the steps it then listed a price which I thought was suspicious. When I googled it many responses said it was a fraud. What can any of you in the community tell me about MacKeeper. If it's a fraud, how do I uninstall it. Mackeeper and oneclickads keep opening when I click on a page anywhere while browsing, even if it is not a hyperlink. How to stop them?
Although when I click on a link, my address bar shows "Pop-up blocked" but it still opens up a new window with Mackeeper or other ads. And then I have to click again on the link for the actual page to open up.
This happens on Safari as well as Chrome browsers.

I downloaded Mackeeper and it told me junk was slowing down my Mac but after it asked for $88 i quickly uninstalled it. Im worried it left a virus that slowed down my Macbook Pro. Even tho everyone says Macs don't need antivirus ware, is there something i can run to make sure there isn't anything harmful leftover?
