View 1 RepliesHow do I delete text. Let's say I wrote the wrong word, as you know a Windows keyboard has "Delete" and "Backspace" keys, but a MacBook keyboard only has a "Delete" key which acts like the "Backspace" key. So in order for me to delete on work I have to go behind the text and use it like backspace.. how do I just delete the word from the front?
View 24 Replies View RelatedI'm fairly new to macs. I got my first a few months ago (the Air) and I LOVE it! But something has been bugging me since I got it. When you delete text on windows you hold backspace and it deletes the characters one at a time for about half a second, then it speeds up a lot and deletes them quickly. I can't figure out how to do that on a mac though. When you backspace on a mac you hold delete but it never speeds up. I've looked through forums and stuff and can't find anything else on this problem. I don't know if that means there's a really simple solution, or if it's just something that nobody really cares enough about to mention.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have Mavericks 10.9.4 I'm trying to use the Dictation feature for the first time and I cannot get it to work. First of all, I downloaded the Enhanced Diction, ~750MB. Diction is 'on' and the enhanced dictation is enabled. When checking the internal microphone for operability, I tried 'automatic and internal microphone'. It shows good activity when speaking.
Once I am in a field where I can add text, I will double click the FN key. I hear a 'one beep' sound, not the normal siri sound, and the microphone DOES NOT show up as it does on my other MAC. However, when I started the computer in safe mode (yea, I know the microphone is disabled), the microphone shows up in the text field. So this means, something is disabling my microphone in normal boot-up.

Could keep going with classes and meetings, with enhanced dictation feature which is built-in the Maverick OS and a micrphone, so my mother could be able to see on the screen what other people are saying to her. I have read that these applications use a lot of resources, and for the case of the commercial application Dragon Dictation, they recomend a 2Ghz processor. Whether a Mac Book Air with 1.4GHz i5 processor and 4Gb RAM would perform well for this task?

View 10 Replies View Relatedi've used PC all my life but i'm switching to a Mac hopefully by the end of this year so i've been searching the internet looking at the minor differences (i.e. alt on windows is cmd on a mac) but there's one thing i was wondering about but i can't find it. in windows, when you're in the web browser and not typing anything, you can hit the backspace key and it functions as the back button. i used this keyboard shortcut a lot and i was just wondering if you can do this on a mac as well.

I've got a Macbook Pro (early 2011 model) which I upgraded to Mavericks earlier this year and all has been working fine. Over the past few days I noticed my backspace key was playing up (sometimes it worked, other times I had to press hard a few times before it would work at all) until today when it decided it would not work at all. I have already checked in System Preferences and restored defaults as well as resetting the PRAM but to no avail so far. Is there anything else I can try or will I need to take it back to the store and get it looked at?
View 1 Replies View RelatedThe 'Return' and 'Backspace' keys on my mac have recently stopped working. Nothing was spilled on them and nothing seems to be wrong with them when pressed down. I also removed the keys and checked that there was nothing in the way, but there wasn't. I have rung apple and they said it would need to be taken into a store, but there isn't one near by and it will be a few weeks until i can take it in. In the meantime, is there any way that I could remap the keys in question to another couple of keys. For instance right command and right option?
View 1 Replies View RelatedSuddenly my backspace button has stopped working. Restarting or running Windows XP doesn't help a thing. Is it possible to use the right shift button as a backspace-button, you know changing what the keys do. It's quite irritating not being able to delete stuff. What I'd like: To use my right shift key instead of the backspace.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm still trying to figure out Pages, after having recently switched from MS Word. But ... I really, really miss the Backspace, Home, and End functions that you have on the keyboard of most Windows based PC's. Any ideas of how I can configure keyboard shortcuts, etc to make up for the lack of these functions on the Macbook Pro (13") keyboard?
View 4 Replies View RelatedIs there ANY possible way to create a left-backspace key on the wireless keyboard, like a macro or something? I am going crazy without it, and of course, the only solution I see is to buy the wired standard keyboard with the numeric keypad, which contains a left-backspace (left-delete) key.

I always keep the system up to date with software, I don't use illegal software, I can see no reason why this should be happening. I'm running Yosemite, latest updates always applied.Â
Tempted to perform a clean install and see if that works. I'd book an appointment but with Christmas so close no shops are accepting bookings and the phone proved useless.Â
Just thought I should test with an external keyboard to see if that also has the same issue. I'll do that.

The iphone dictation feature is great. It is available on 4s, but not 4 or earlier phones. It is able to keep up with a normal speaking voice, and even counting the time to correct the (few) errors in the transcription, one can create text much faster than even the fastest typist. I know Dragon has software for this. Might there be a way to get dictation to work on a Mac wihtout having to buy the Dragon software?

I can no longer add or delete any contacts in Contacts. I am running Mavericks, 10.9.3 and I have an IPhone 5 which is up to date on its software. I have tried having iCloud syncing on and off and still cannot add or delete contacts on my MacBook Pro (brand new; with Retina display). I have looked for a preference file and cannot even find one that seems to be for Contacts. I can remove contacts from my iPhone, and I can sync it with my laptop, but the contacts I deleted on the phone are not deleted on the laptop. When syncing, which I have tried doing both wired and wireless, it takes forever to finish, it if it does at all. I usually let it set at working on step 5 for about 5 minutes before I just click the round "X" and dismiss the sync box.
