Dec 7, 2008For some reason, double clicking the trackpad button or with one finger on the trackpad itself (tap-tap, essentially), does not do what it used to.
For instance, if I go to the URL box/bar on the top of Safari double clicking no longer highlights the entire URL string so I can delete it. I manually have to drag from one side to the other, or click the little website icon in the left of the box.
In every single application, double clicking (or tapping) no longer highlights text. It's a pain to always have to drag all the time.

Jun 19, 2014Could keep going with classes and meetings, with enhanced dictation feature which is built-in the Maverick OS and a micrphone, so my mother could be able to see on the screen what other people are saying to her. I have read that these applications use a lot of resources, and for the case of the commercial application Dragon Dictation, they recomend a 2Ghz processor. Whether a Mac Book Air with 1.4GHz i5 processor and 4Gb RAM would perform well for this task?

Aug 24, 2014I have Mavericks 10.9.4 I'm trying to use the Dictation feature for the first time and I cannot get it to work. First of all, I downloaded the Enhanced Diction, ~750MB. Diction is 'on' and the enhanced dictation is enabled. When checking the internal microphone for operability, I tried 'automatic and internal microphone'. It shows good activity when speaking.
Once I am in a field where I can add text, I will double click the FN key. I hear a 'one beep' sound, not the normal siri sound, and the microphone DOES NOT show up as it does on my other MAC. However, when I started the computer in safe mode (yea, I know the microphone is disabled), the microphone shows up in the text field. So this means, something is disabling my microphone in normal boot-up.

May 23, 2012The iphone dictation feature is great. It is available on 4s, but not 4 or earlier phones. It is able to keep up with a normal speaking voice, and even counting the time to correct the (few) errors in the transcription, one can create text much faster than even the fastest typist. I know Dragon has software for this. Might there be a way to get dictation to work on a Mac wihtout having to buy the Dragon software?

Intel Mac :: Printed Text Doesn't Match Size Of Onscreen Text
Jul 2, 2012Mac screen resolution is getting higher and higher, which is nice, but the downside is that we seem to have lost "what you see is what you get." I have set the default document size of Text-Edit to about the size of an 8 1/2 x 11 document, which fits easily on the screen. I have what appears to be a single page of text. It all easily fits in the document window. The headline fits across the width of the page. But when I choose Print, the print preview shows that the text is going to spill out onto two sheets of paper.  I exit out of the print document and reduce the text size so that it all prints out on one sheet of paper. The problem is, the size of the text onscreen is now TINY! It looks like it's about 6 point while the printed text looks like it's about 12 point! No WYSIWYG!  When I revert the document to the way it was originally, where it was going to print out on two sheets of paper, and then hold my printed document up next to the screen, the printed size matches the onscreen size almost perfectly, even though, if printed out at this size, the text would spill out onto two pages and be huge. In other words, 18 point size text prints out at about 12 points and 12 pt text prints out at about 6pts, so there's about a 6pt difference in how text looks onscreen and how it prints out. Again, No WYSIWYG! My older Macs had much lower-resolution screens, but text printed out at about the same apparent size on screen. I know the original Macs had 72dpi screens so that they would closely match the printed size of text, and I like the fact that monitors keep getting better, but is there a way around this problem of printed text not matching the size of onscreen text?

Dec 7, 2014So I found the lost project in FCPX. It has a music tract, text and video. When I pulled the project down for editing, I am able to separate the music from the video, but the text bubbles do not appear above the video allowing me to change the misspelled words that need editing.I've searched all of my backup drives for the original footage in case I have to re-edit the whole thing, but I'm unable to find the original footage. Every event in my libraries appears as a finished project.

Here is an example:
Let's say I load www.google.com, it appears in the safari window as usual.
Suppose I begin to type a search in the google search field at the top right of the safari window (not the one on the google page)
if when doing this the sentence is long for the search, at some point randomly, the rest of the text will be entered this time in the google search text field on the google page! (which is the very next text field) So when I hit enter it makes google search half of my request...
Safari changed the text field I was into with no warning. I want to say I do not press tab at any moment. This is annoying really, and this does not appear anywhere else than in Safari. It seems the issue is not systematic, but appears quite often.
I have no universal access setting except "enable access for assistive device" I had to check this box upon installing a software in the past but I can't remember what it was.Â

May 17, 2009I have designed a corporate letter head for a friend and it is still in jpeg format after using photoshop. Now I want to import it into a pages document so that I can give it to him in PC format so he can type over the watermark and put his letters onto his letterhead... now I can do that quite easily on my PC but not so on my Mac...
I can add the watermark image into the Pages document but for some reason I can't work out how to modify the text from then... i can see how you move the text formatting but if i wanted to add a word into a paragraph etc i can't select the text. It's as if the watermark layer is the only layer I can select and the text is not longer selectable.... can anybody help me out with this please? I just need to be able to select the text layer and modify the text..

My MacBooks (Pro 13 and 13 white) don't see the drives with double USB wires. Both MacBooks work perfectly fine with the drive with one wire and my windows machine works with all 3 external drives without any problems.
MacBook :: Why Can't Open Files With Double Click
Mar 25, 2012I have been having problems with my MacBook (Aluminum late 2008, I think, OS 10.5). It runs slowly; files on the desktop and in my "Macintosh HD" often won't open with double-click but have to be opened with File-->Open; there are Word Work Files that won't go away; the trackpad is often stiff and not very responsive; clicking on the mouse is very stiff, despite very easy settings. In short, a lot of things are sluggish. Sometimes, also, I get the spinning beach ball, but not all the time.Â
I have run disk permissons repair from Disk Utility many times (both from the desktop and from the MacBook install disk); I have replaced the directory with Disk Warrior at least twice; I have verified that the disk is OK; I have zapped the PRAM; and done other things of that kind.Â
I took the MacBook to an Apple Store yesterday. It had been unplugged and much to my surprise, most everything seemed to be working all right. When I opened it today, however, I found everything as it was before I took it to Apple. Including the Word Work files, which I thought were gone.Â
If I recall correctly, this started when I was working on a long editing project in Word, but I don't know whether that has anything to do with what has happened. I've done similarly long projects before, and this never happened.Â
I could try trashing the Word Work files (there seem also to be quite a lot of folders with "recovered" files), but I don't want to do that unless I can be assured that nothing bad will come from doing that. Â
I know this seems quite comprehensive, and may involve several issues, but I'm really unhappy about this and would love to think there is something more I can do, apart from returning to the Apple Store. Besides everything else, how can I khow that I won't find, again, that the MacBook will work fine there but goes back to its troubled state when I return?Â

So I'm highlighting everything until I double click again. Then, I sometimes have to double-click in places a single-click is supposed to work such as closing windows. Oct 23, 2010so i've been having an issue with the double tap to hi-light any text i wish to copy. Such things as double tapping the URL bar to hi-light the whole url so i can just retype w/e site i want to go to. Every time i restart or turn off or my mbp goes to sleep and i reopen it, the double tap function resets. So i'm forced to go to the system preferences > trackpad> "double-click speed" to slowest in order to get my double tap to hi-light anything again. Is there something wrong with my mbp? Or is there a way i can save the settings when i put the double-click speed to slow so that it wont reset every time my mbp needs to be woken up or restarted?
