Is there ANY possible way to create a left-backspace key on the wireless keyboard, like a macro or something? I am going crazy without it, and of course, the only solution I see is to buy the wired standard keyboard with the numeric keypad, which contains a left-backspace (left-delete) key.

View 10 Replies View Relatedi've used PC all my life but i'm switching to a Mac hopefully by the end of this year so i've been searching the internet looking at the minor differences (i.e. alt on windows is cmd on a mac) but there's one thing i was wondering about but i can't find it. in windows, when you're in the web browser and not typing anything, you can hit the backspace key and it functions as the back button. i used this keyboard shortcut a lot and i was just wondering if you can do this on a mac as well.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm fairly new to macs. I got my first a few months ago (the Air) and I LOVE it! But something has been bugging me since I got it. When you delete text on windows you hold backspace and it deletes the characters one at a time for about half a second, then it speeds up a lot and deletes them quickly. I can't figure out how to do that on a mac though. When you backspace on a mac you hold delete but it never speeds up. I've looked through forums and stuff and can't find anything else on this problem. I don't know if that means there's a really simple solution, or if it's just something that nobody really cares enough about to mention.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI've got a Macbook Pro (early 2011 model) which I upgraded to Mavericks earlier this year and all has been working fine. Over the past few days I noticed my backspace key was playing up (sometimes it worked, other times I had to press hard a few times before it would work at all) until today when it decided it would not work at all. I have already checked in System Preferences and restored defaults as well as resetting the PRAM but to no avail so far. Is there anything else I can try or will I need to take it back to the store and get it looked at?

View 11 Replies View RelatedThe 'Return' and 'Backspace' keys on my mac have recently stopped working. Nothing was spilled on them and nothing seems to be wrong with them when pressed down. I also removed the keys and checked that there was nothing in the way, but there wasn't. I have rung apple and they said it would need to be taken into a store, but there isn't one near by and it will be a few weeks until i can take it in. In the meantime, is there any way that I could remap the keys in question to another couple of keys. For instance right command and right option?
View 1 Replies View RelatedSuddenly my backspace button has stopped working. Restarting or running Windows XP doesn't help a thing. Is it possible to use the right shift button as a backspace-button, you know changing what the keys do. It's quite irritating not being able to delete stuff. What I'd like: To use my right shift key instead of the backspace.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm still trying to figure out Pages, after having recently switched from MS Word. But ... I really, really miss the Backspace, Home, and End functions that you have on the keyboard of most Windows based PC's. Any ideas of how I can configure keyboard shortcuts, etc to make up for the lack of these functions on the Macbook Pro (13") keyboard?

Don't know if this can be answered here, but I keep trying to use the backspace key in Excel and I keep getting a beachball, where only Excel freezes but I can use the rest of my computer.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Macbook Air, it's 18 months old, and the keyboard is sporadically fail. I see no pattern. The A and Backspace keys are the main two to go, they fail at the same time, and come back at the same time.Â

I always keep the system up to date with software, I don't use illegal software, I can see no reason why this should be happening. I'm running Yosemite, latest updates always applied.Â
Tempted to perform a clean install and see if that works. I'd book an appointment but with Christmas so close no shops are accepting bookings and the phone proved useless.Â
Just thought I should test with an external keyboard to see if that also has the same issue. I'll do that.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI want to create a disk image of a Mac drive (.dmg file).I figured that it might not be a good idea to try and image a live disk, so I unmounted it (the user dragged the disk icon to the eject icon), and I confirmed it was unmounted by looking at /Volumes. To be clear here, this isn't the boot volume, that is /dev/disk0./dev/disk1 is an internal drive - as it happens it's the original drive for this OSX 10.4 G5, AND /Volumes/HITACHI is the mount point for an external USB drive.I have tried this twice. On both occassions, things seemed to go well, but after a few minutes (about 10 - 20 minutes), I observed that the target file on /Volumes/HITACHI stopped growing, then a bunch of unpleasant stuff started to happen:
* I did lsof /Volumes/HITACHI/MacHD_20120201.dmg and found the PID of the diskimage binary, ps waux showed it was doing nothing (CPU% was 0.0). This indicates a stuck process to me.
* The hdutil command stopped producing '.'
* I could not cancel the hduitl command
* I could not rm the MacHD_20120201.dmg file
* I could not ls the /Volumes/HITACHI directory
* unlink also hung
A little further into this, the Mac became unresponsive. I observed that the disk was now mounted again (grrr!). As a work around I switched the USB drive off and on, and Mac came good - all my terminals started to respond, the GUI responded for the user.My workaround has been to use CCC to make a clone of the disk - but I don't like this because I think .dmg files are much more convenient (for a start, now that I've used CCC I can't use the USB drive for anything else).
* Is my methodology wrong? Do I really need to umount the /dev/disk1
* Can you disable finder from automounting an internal hard drive (I am particularly interested in this)Â

How do I delete text. Let's say I wrote the wrong word, as you know a Windows keyboard has "Delete" and "Backspace" keys, but a MacBook keyboard only has a "Delete" key which acts like the "Backspace" key. So in order for me to delete on work I have to go behind the text and use it like backspace.. how do I just delete the word from the front?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI purchased an app online, and seeing as they had an option to download the app, I downloaded it. (I do believe I still have available to me the option of the cd to be shipped, but I'm not sure) Now I need to use it in a way that requires it to be booted off a cd... The software downloaded was in a disk image format. Are there any specific instructions/steps I need to take in order to ensure that I produce a bootable cd? I'd hate to waste a perfectly good CD-R by a stupid mistake of making it non-bootable.

I am trying to figure out what the best way is to create a bootable DVD frm a DMG file?
Upon first purchasing Leopard 10.5 way back when it came out, I decided to back up the disk on my computer by creating a Disk Image. Turns out it was a good move because now that I need the disc, it seems to have picked up a big scratch on it's surface, and it simply refuses to mount at this point...
I can use either Toast or Disk Utility to accomplish this task (or the terminal if absolutely necessary, but I would really prefer using one of the GUIs I've just mentioned). I was hoping someone would be gracious enough to provide me with instructions on what would be the best way to create a bootable DVD from this DMG file.
I am thinking of creating a second user on my MacPro for a special project I am doing with itunes. The reason for doing so is tho keep these music library separate. I know how to creat the user but I am wondering when I am done is there any harm in deleting the second user. I know I need to copy off the files but will my OS X installation be compromised in any way.

I have followed this page up until the point where I go to Finder > Go > Connect to Server. After this, I do not see any way of creating a ssh connection. Instead there are only some options to choose from e.g. afp, nfs, smb, etc.I am using a RSA public key currently for SSH connection via Terminal.

Using Boot Camp Assistant to create a Microsoft partition on my MacMini. It requires a MS-DOS formated disk to download Apple/Microsoft files. I am using a 'remote disk' from a networked PC (works for everything else). Disk Utility does not recognise the remote disk unless it is formated, and the only formate available on the PC is UDF. With the DVD-RW disk formated in UDF, Boot Camp recognises the disk, but Disk Utility will not format it.Â
