Suddenly my backspace button has stopped working. Restarting or running Windows XP doesn't help a thing. Is it possible to use the right shift button as a backspace-button, you know changing what the keys do. It's quite irritating not being able to delete stuff. What I'd like: To use my right shift key instead of the backspace.

I there a way I can restore the original function?
The 'Return' and 'Backspace' keys on my mac have recently stopped working. Nothing was spilled on them and nothing seems to be wrong with them when pressed down. I also removed the keys and checked that there was nothing in the way, but there wasn't. I have rung apple and they said it would need to be taken into a store, but there isn't one near by and it will be a few weeks until i can take it in. In the meantime, is there any way that I could remap the keys in question to another couple of keys. For instance right command and right option?

I have a Macbook Air, it's 18 months old, and the keyboard is sporadically fail. I see no pattern. The A and Backspace keys are the main two to go, they fail at the same time, and come back at the same time.Â

I always keep the system up to date with software, I don't use illegal software, I can see no reason why this should be happening. I'm running Yosemite, latest updates always applied.Â
Tempted to perform a clean install and see if that works. I'd book an appointment but with Christmas so close no shops are accepting bookings and the phone proved useless.Â
Just thought I should test with an external keyboard to see if that also has the same issue. I'll do that.

i'm running snow leopard and windows 7 in boot camp on a macbook pro 13" unibody. I use delete a lot as I use windows for CAD software and pressing fn + backspace is getting annoying. How do I map the backspace key to work as delete and map the eject CD key as backspace?

Someone else was using it the other day and now whenever I hit my Shift key, it changes the focus to either the task bar or the other open app(s). I have reset the keyboard settings in System Preferences, tried another keyboard and still have the same issue. I created a new user account and the Shift key functions properly in the new profile. where else to look to restore the normal behavior?Â

Today, when I turned the computer back on, everything works fine, however, a few of the keys are sticky (the space bar, arrow keys, shift button, and 2 others). I've got a Macbook Pro (early 2011 model) which I upgraded to Mavericks earlier this year and all has been working fine. Over the past few days I noticed my backspace key was playing up (sometimes it worked, other times I had to press hard a few times before it would work at all) until today when it decided it would not work at all. I have already checked in System Preferences and restored defaults as well as resetting the PRAM but to no avail so far. Is there anything else I can try or will I need to take it back to the store and get it looked at?

I'm fairly new to macs. I got my first a few months ago (the Air) and I LOVE it! But something has been bugging me since I got it. When you delete text on windows you hold backspace and it deletes the characters one at a time for about half a second, then it speeds up a lot and deletes them quickly. I can't figure out how to do that on a mac though. When you backspace on a mac you hold delete but it never speeds up. I've looked through forums and stuff and can't find anything else on this problem. I don't know if that means there's a really simple solution, or if it's just something that nobody really cares enough about to mention.

It was some things that were wrong with it but she took it to get fixed at apple for like 500$ so Im sure she doesn't have warranty. The other day I was typing a report and it kept typing in capitals when I didn't have the caps lock on...I figured out that it was something with the shift key. I took it off, and that still didnt work. I haven't spilled anything on it at all. I take very good care of it also. Now I can't en log in because my password has numbers which only turn into symbols.

I purchased a late 2009 13" Macbook with 2.26 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 2 GB ram as a present for my son in college. He had problems last year and the top case and motherboard were replaced in early 2011; Recently his battery would not hold a charge and his hard drive failed. I replaced both and added more ram to speed it up - now at 8 GB)The right shift key does not work. I have checked universal access; speech-to-text features are off; checked keyboard - English is chosen; checked keyboard, shift key is not assigned to any function;Left shift key does work. Right shift key does work on an attached Logitech wireless keyboard. The key seems to press down okay, just will not capitalize any letters.

Is there ANY possible way to create a left-backspace key on the wireless keyboard, like a macro or something? I am going crazy without it, and of course, the only solution I see is to buy the wired standard keyboard with the numeric keypad, which contains a left-backspace (left-delete) key.
