OS X V10.7 Lion :: Get The "dictation" Functionality Of IPhone 4S To Work On An IMac Computer?
May 23, 2012
The iphone dictation feature is great. It is available on 4s, but not 4 or earlier phones. It is able to keep up with a normal speaking voice, and even counting the time to correct the (few) errors in the transcription, one can create text much faster than even the fastest typist. I know Dragon has software for this. Might there be a way to get dictation to work on a Mac wihtout having to buy the Dragon software?

I am thinking of upgrading from lion to mountain lion, simply to use the dictation feature, but I need it for "typing" papers in office for mac....word. Does it work for that, or is it geared more for sending messages?
Since installing 10.7.4, display sleep function works but computer sleep doesn't I've tried several combintions in Energy Saver) System Preferences) but I stillcan't get the computer to go to sleep at the selected time.
It's not fair that there are wonderfull apps for the ipad and iphone but not the computer - if I had of known, I would have went with an ipad at the time of purchase.
My Apple computer version 10.7.4 isn't sync'd up with my new I-Phone 4S Which I purchased lover the ast week sometime! I had iChat connected on my MacOX computer (version 10.7.4 ) before I bought the iphone last week... Now, when people dial me on iChat ...it rings on my cell phone and not my computer... How do I get it to ring on my computer too.Or if I can only use one device...I want it to ring on my computer!
I own an early 2011 13' MBP with a preconfigured 256 Gb SSD. since OSX Mountain Lion will be released next July, I was wondering if the new Power Nap functionality will be supported on my MacBook (on the website it states you need flash storage installed)?

I have a new iMac and iPhone 4.0. All software is up to date and I have installed the free beta version of Mountain Lion which let me use iChat on my computer. Safari intermittently stops working. Mail won't access my mailboxes if Safari is running. Now iTunes won't find my iPhone when it's locked and in a dock charging. If I restart I can do 1 thing at a time, but I can't have Safari running and use Mail. I've emptied my cache, checked my passwords. It's none of that. By process of elimination, there is some kind of conflict between using multiple applications on the Internet at the same time. Sometimes after I've gone to several Internet sites Safari will stop working properly even though all other applications have been "quit".
I know that some of the older MacBooks (2006-07) have multi-touch trackpad. Are some of those models only one or two finger touch? I am wanting to upgrade to Lion OSX and want to make sure the trackpad will support three and four finger gestures. And which is the oldest macbook model that supports multi-touch and will support all the functions on OSX LION?
I used to be able to use various shopping websites (Land's End, Nordstrom, etc.) without a problem. Recently I tightened the privacy and security settings on my computer and now these sites no longer work. I can access them, but when I go to choose a size or color, or put an item in my shopping cart, it doesn't work. Is this problem related to cookies, to plug-ins, to the firewall, to other browser settings? I changed a few different settings, so I'm not sure which change might be causing these and similar shopping websites not to work properly.Â
I'm using an iMac (OSX 10.8.5) running Safari 6.1.6.Â
When I transfer my photos from Iphone to iMac I cannot view or edit those photos or any of my previous photos or scans. I am a new IMac user. This problem just began yesterday. I have not had any issues before this.
My wife and I have a few email address (BT Internet) that we have access too from our Imac, Iphone 4 and Iphone 4s.
The problem we seem to have is that all our emails keep dissapearing when we go into them. Luckily, old habits die hard and we have been able to get the all on our laptop, but this defeats the object. I have had a look at all our settings to see what the issue is but am flumuxed by it all. The Imac seems to keep dropping the password and wants us to redo the password for these accounts, but sometimes, it wont accept it.Â

My land line is dead, so no phone nor internet at home. But I can use my iPhone hotspot to get on the web from my iMac. Great, it works. I cannot send email from my computer using my iPhone's hot spot with Mail.
When I switched to ICloud I thought my Apple ID and password would work for Apple store. It turns out they have a different Apple ID at the Apple store with a diferent password that I do not remember. HOw can I make the ICloud Apple ID and password work for all other platforms?

After downloading Yosemite I tried to start up dictation for the first time and that enhanced dictation update window pops up. But it will never do anything. It just sits there stuck on 0 bytes.
setting up dictation.. have done everything the support communities suggest but it doesn't translate to text. Does it work in E-mail application or only in Keynotes, pages etc.?

I have Mavericks 10.9.4 I'm trying to use the Dictation feature for the first time and I cannot get it to work. First of all, I downloaded the Enhanced Diction, ~750MB. Diction is 'on' and the enhanced dictation is enabled. When checking the internal microphone for operability, I tried 'automatic and internal microphone'. It shows good activity when speaking.
Once I am in a field where I can add text, I will double click the FN key. I hear a 'one beep' sound, not the normal siri sound, and the microphone DOES NOT show up as it does on my other MAC. However, when I started the computer in safe mode (yea, I know the microphone is disabled), the microphone shows up in the text field. So this means, something is disabling my microphone in normal boot-up.
Could keep going with classes and meetings, with enhanced dictation feature which is built-in the Maverick OS and a micrphone, so my mother could be able to see on the screen what other people are saying to her. I have read that these applications use a lot of resources, and for the case of the commercial application Dragon Dictation, they recomend a 2Ghz processor. Whether a Mac Book Air with 1.4GHz i5 processor and 4Gb RAM would perform well for this task?
I'm trying to think of a way to mimic Gmail functionality without actually using a Google/ Gmail account. My work email account is an imap account which I would like to use on my Macbook, and also my iPad. The ideal situation would be for all of my folders, inbox, and sent emails to sync as if I were working on the same device. In other words, I would like to write an email from my iPad only to come back to my office and find a copy on my laptop. Is this possible? Is it merely a matter of adding the imap account to my iPad?
I currently have the account set up on my Macbook and iPhone. The iPhone functionality isn't great. Emails which I send from my iPhone do not appear in my sent emails on my Macbook. I'm looking to remedy this.
After updating my new iMac to 10.7.4. My internet sharing suddenly doesn't work any more. I connect my ipad and iphone via the wifi. It will drop out after a very short time, about 10 seconds of Facetime, so I turn off the wifi, then the internet sharing then reboot everything but nothing seems to work. It worked perfectly in 10.7.3 but now I can't use the internet on my ipad.
I have an Intel-based iMac which I just upgraded two days ago from Snow Leopard to Lion (10.7.4). I did an upgrade-in-place (as opposed to a fresh install) and did a software update after the installation completed. I have my computer scheduled to wake up each morning at 6 a.m. When it wakes up, the sound doesn't work unless I reboot the computer. If I open up iTunes and try to play music, there is no sound (unless I reboot). The song progress meter at the top of iTunes won't even move when I hit the play button. When I open the Sound preference and click the Output tab, I do see the Headphone port and the output volume is set all the way up.
When I use Mail, my read emails are "filed" into folders. How do I "match up" the folders across a Mac Book Pro, iPhone, iPad ,and IMac so that it's identical?
my son recently gave me his old macbook i have tried to download my pictures from my iphone to the new macbook and it will not download. Do I need to register the computer to me before it will recognize my phone?
I keep getting an error message when I attempt to authorize my Macbook with my iPhone. Ive tried a few suggestions from some online forums but no luck.
