I have a Macbook Air, it's 18 months old, and the keyboard is sporadically fail. I see no pattern. The A and Backspace keys are the main two to go, they fail at the same time, and come back at the same time.
System details:
1.7 GHz Intel Core i7
8GB RAM
Intel HD Graphics 5000 1536 MB
Serial: C02KVGZKF6T6
I always keep the system up to date with software, I don't use illegal software, I can see no reason why this should be happening. I'm running Yosemite, latest updates always applied.
Tempted to perform a clean install and see if that works. I'd book an appointment but with Christmas so close no shops are accepting bookings and the phone proved useless.
Just thought I should test with an external keyboard to see if that also has the same issue. I'll do that.

The 'Return' and 'Backspace' keys on my mac have recently stopped working. Nothing was spilled on them and nothing seems to be wrong with them when pressed down. I also removed the keys and checked that there was nothing in the way, but there wasn't. I have rung apple and they said it would need to be taken into a store, but there isn't one near by and it will be a few weeks until i can take it in. In the meantime, is there any way that I could remap the keys in question to another couple of keys. For instance right command and right option?
View 1 Replies View RelatedSuddenly my backspace button has stopped working. Restarting or running Windows XP doesn't help a thing. Is it possible to use the right shift button as a backspace-button, you know changing what the keys do. It's quite irritating not being able to delete stuff. What I'd like: To use my right shift key instead of the backspace.
View 1 Replies View Relatedi'm running snow leopard and windows 7 in boot camp on a macbook pro 13" unibody. I use delete a lot as I use windows for CAD software and pressing fn + backspace is getting annoying. How do I map the backspace key to work as delete and map the eject CD key as backspace?
View 3 Replies View RelatedHow do I delete text. Let's say I wrote the wrong word, as you know a Windows keyboard has "Delete" and "Backspace" keys, but a MacBook keyboard only has a "Delete" key which acts like the "Backspace" key. So in order for me to delete on work I have to go behind the text and use it like backspace.. how do I just delete the word from the front?

View 2 Replies View RelatedLast night a friend of mine spilt a very small amount of soda onto my macbook. I immediately wiped it off and powered down the computer. Today, when I turned the computer back on, everything works fine, however, a few of the keys are sticky (the space bar, arrow keys, shift button, and 2 others). Is there anyway to remove these keys to try to clean them? This is the current generation Macbook.

What do you think? IMO it would be a nice subtle aesthetic change from the plastic EVERY keyboard has for the keys. They wouldn't be translucent either, black glass like the casing if iPhone 4.
View 10 Replies View RelatedSo a few days ago I spilt tea on my MBP. When I opened it back up everything seemed to be in working condition, however a few of my keys were sticky. So, yesterday I took them off and started cleaning. That's when things went down hill.
Now, my keyboard will type two letters at the same time. For example, when I press "r" it will type "ry". It does this for the whole row. The Dashboard key brightens the screen and brings up the dashboard. 4 types 46. f types fh. v types vn. And space doesn't space.
My cat slept on my MacBook last night and now the keyboard isn't working properly ... Some keys don't do anything at all and some keys do things they shouldn't... Any clues on how to fix this? I called the apple support line and we don't think it was anything to do with the settings in 'universal settings'. I'm not sure what else to do and this is one time I do wish I had a man in the house?! Or at least someone else who has half a clue! I rely haven't had many problems with my MacBook 'till now. I'm operating on Mac os x 10.6.8 Also, 2 cats free to good home. Or anyhome, it doesn't even need to be 'good'!

View 7 Replies View RelatedI am not sure what happened but it seems my two year old child might have spilled something on my macbook. The keyboard stopped working and when I pressed a key the letter "Z" got stuck. I purchased a used "topcase" from ebay, installed it and I am still experiencing the same phenomonon, although other letters can type normally. My gut instinct is that there is something else wrong ""deeper to the keyboard".

View 5 Replies View RelatedI bought a new MacBook Pro i5 yesterday to replace my MBP LED (2.2Ghz). The function keys on the new MBP kinda suck. I really want the one that does "Show Desktop". If you go to keyboard layout, it says that F11, F12, etc., are assigned, but seems it completely ignores them. What the F? Even if I could change the expose button to show desktop, I'd be very happy. I know you can use the 4 finger swipe, but that doesn't help while trying to drag something from the desktop into mail.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI reset my Apple keyboard (I use a keyboard and monitor at home connected to the macbookpro) and now when I try to change the volume justing F11 or F12, I get the desktop....or something else. How do you reset the defaults if the default keys aren't the default now? I mean, I looking at a key that shows a volume symbol on it, but that is not what happens. Sorry for typos, but the computer stalls for about 5 seconds every 30....
PS And the keyboard is about a year old and the "s" key has totally vanished. :-)

I have a macbook pro late 2011. Yesterday, I was using as usual my macbook the whole day. So I went to bed and shut the system down usually. Today I've started the OSX up and the number keys on the keyboard were not working anymore... The weird thing is that the whole keyboard is currently working except the keys from 1-9 (even the Zero key is working as usual) and I have to use the virtual keyboard to type them...

Can individual keys be adjusted or tweaked on the keyboard to allow more even backlight to show through. Especially uneven under space bar.
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy macbook pro keyboard died, the only replacement I could find was the newer keyboard layout (where the Fn keys have different functions - such as volume has been moved etc). After a bit of filing etc to get it to fit, its all back together and looking/working fine, but I need to change the keyboard layout so the pictures on the keys do what they are supposed to (hope that makes sense?) i.e. on the old one volume up was F5, but on the new one volume up is F12.
