OS X Mavericks :: Clear And Prevent Multiple Identical Apps On (Open With)?

Dec 5, 2014

I understand why "Open With" includes both old and new versions of updated apps. Fine. But how do I CLEAR the list and prevent this from continuing? (I'd expect it to offer a "Clear List" option at the bottom. It doesn't.)

OS X Mavericks :: Multiple App Store Apps Claim To Be Damaged?

Aug 27, 2014

Recently after rebooting my computer, three App Store apps that previously worked fine all popped up the message below:

I have re-downloaded them 4 times, and they still do not work. The apps in question are Window Tidy, Converto, and MailTab Pro for Gmail. I have set Gatekeeper to allow apps from anywhere and I've tried using xattr -rc in the Terminal.

OS X :: Two Identical Hard Drives Not Calculating As Identical

Sep 19, 2009

10.5.8 Power PC G5

I have two identical external firewire "archive" hard drives. One serves as a safety copy of important data and the other serves as a safety of the safety. Both drives are identical models of identical size purchased at the same time, installed in identical enclosures, formatted the same way and when originally formatted showed an identical amount of available space on each drive. When archiving is needed, important data is copied to both drives. So after the double copying of data, they have the exact same material. They are now about 1/2 full with supposed identical files.

However, in the finder one drive shows about 3 gigs worth of available space more than the other. I have used a couple of utilities (such as Toast's compare utility and Disk Warrior) to compare the drives and see what is causing the discrepancy. While they do have the most minor differences in some hidden files, the difference is only a few megabytes and nowhere near the 3 gig discrepancy.

Any thoughts on why there is such a big difference in finder's calculation?

OS X Mavericks :: (10.9.2) Does Apple Mail Filter Identical Emails?

Aug 21, 2014

I have a curious question:  Does Apple Mail filter identical mails?

More precisely, I am expecting a number of mails that are identical, except they arrive from different mailing lists.

However, I can only see one of them.

So, I was wondering whether Apple mail has some "intelligence" built in that would filter out the others.

OS X Mavericks :: Force Quit Showing Apps Still Open

'm showing iBooks, Pages, & Preview are still open via the Force Quit dialog but I haven't used them since the previous evening.I have an older Macbook (Aluminum, Late 2008) so I try to run as lean as possible. There are no extra windows open that I can find.  Double clicking them from Force Quit brings them up to then quit from the application proper, apps to quit when I tell them to.Has this to do with iCloud integration? (Like Pages wasn't quite done with an iCloud upload before I quit).Should I try a reinstall of the apps or Mavericks?

OS X :: Prevent The Dock From Pushing Apps Away?

Aug 7, 2009

When I launch an app or open a window they appear next to the Dock wasting precious screen space. I can of course move them manually under the Dock to get the space back but I'm searching a way to tell the dock to always be on top of everything instead of moving it away.
I already searched Google and used numerous Apps like "Docker" and "Secrets"- without sucess.

Especially on my mothers small 17incher with 1024x768px resolution and only a couple of things in the Dock, the Dock is stealing like 20 Percent of real estate.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: How To Prevent Apps From Being Copied To External Drive

May 23, 2012

I run a studio in an education evironment. We've got quite a lot of software installed on our machines (Mac OS X 10.7.4) and there's always the chance that students will copy applications from the Applications folder onto an external drive to take home!Obviously this is becoming increasingly easy with large USB sticks and Applications which are entirely contained in the Applications folder. Is there any way that students can still run these applications during class but prevent them from copying the whole applications?

OS X Mavericks :: How To Prevent MacBook Air From Sleeping When Sharing Files Over SMB

Jun 2, 2014

I know that Mavericks is very aggressive when it comes to saving power,To transfer files from an old win7 laptop to a brand new MacBook Air, I set up file sharing on the MBA, and shared a folder over SMB. I then proceed to log on from the win7 machine, and start copying files, but as soon as the MBA's display dims (at which time I assume Mavericks sleeps) the file transfer is halted. Other than permanently setting the MBA to "always awake", is there a way of preventing it from sleeping when external file transfers are taking place?
