Nov 18, 2010My Open With... menu has multiple entries of apps. Example; Right click .avi file, open with... VLC, Quicktime, Other, VLC, Quicktime, Other and over and over it goes. I have rebuilt the LaunchServices database with Onyx, and this didn't work. I have also deleted the LaunchServices.plist file.

OS X :: Where Different Apps Jump From One Space To Another?
Feb 7, 2009My query: anyone else have a problem where different apps suddenly jump from one space to another? For example: I'll have skype and mail open in space one, word/excel/ppt in two. When I switch from two to one to check my email, no problem. When I switch back to continue with ppt, i discover that my ppt palette has followed me to space one like a faithful dog, but then got lost there, apparently unable to find its way back to space two. So I go back up to space one to fetch him back home and then get back only to discover that the excel palette has gone looking for his friend in space three where I've got GE running! It's like an old Abott & Costello flick.

Feb 21, 2009I have no idea what happened. it was working fine last week, and then the other day I tried to open up iMovie and i get "The operation could not be completed / An unexpected error occurred (error code -10810)" This happens every time i try to open anything in my applications folder. the programs on my dock open up fine.

Feb 1, 2009I just migrated from an iBook G4 to a brand new MacBook Aluminum. Everything works brilliantly.
I set up an additional user account for the wife. I was able to get the itunes library moved over no problem so we can share it.
But I noticed that the other apps i had installed -- MS office, basically -- weren't showing up on the toolbar (or whatever silly marketing term apple has for it) with the stuff like iTunes and mail, et cetera.
So I was wondering, should I reinstall word, and hope some instructions appear for granting access to multiple users?
is there some really idiotically simple thing i am missing?

I have re-downloaded them 4 times, and they still do not work. The apps in question are Window Tidy, Converto, and MailTab Pro for Gmail. I have set Gatekeeper to allow apps from anywhere and I've tried using xattr -rc in the Terminal.

Sep 9, 2010I think this is a problem that started with Snow Leopard and I'm wondering if there's a solution to it yet.
Right now I have iTunes open playing music, as well as a paused video in VLC. When I press the play/pause button (F8) on my black late 2008 MacBook, it pauses iTunes but then unpauses the VLC video. This is obviously totally unwanted behavior. How do I fix this so that this button only controls one app at a time?

Oct 22, 2010Just a strange problem here - when I launch an Application from my Dock (not from the Applications folder) my screen shows up the desktop and then the app. For example I am running Safari now but if I were to open Address Book from the dock, the desktop shows and then the Address Book opens.

I've set the remote network's firewall/router to open up the ARD-specific ports for all the computers I want to connect to. I've also set each computer to accept Remote Management. On my ARD however, when I enter the network address of the remote network I'm trying to get to, I can only see ONE of the enabled computers, rather than all.

When she closes the window, she cannot open another without closing the program and reopening. Apr 25, 2012Suddenly on start up from sleep mode I have prior windows of my email client and my browser (Entourage and Chrome) frozen. I have both of these set as start up items and new versions will open and are operative but the old windows for both remain like a screen shot. Along the menu bar is a 'ghost' image-a menu bar in faded gray and slightly blurred- behind the exiting one that is operable. I have repaired permissions, re set pram...it will not go away or move. I am on mcp OS 10.7.3. Have not installed anything newm in last few days.

MacBook Air :: Keeps Switching Between Desktop And Full Screen Apps By Itself
May 3, 2012My 11" MacBook Air recently just started randomly switching from full screen apps back to the desktop by itself without me using the 4-fingered swipe to change desktops/apps. I've tried quitting (almost) every app and no matter what app is left open, it keeps sliding from the full screen app back to the desktop. I've rebooted the laptop a good three times and it's also been fully shut down and turned back on twice and it still keeps switching.

May 26, 2012I have been using Safari for a few years now, and the only problem I have with it is that I have never been able to have more than one page open at a time. On any PC, I have been using internet explorer and can have, for instance, an internet radio station playing as welll as being able to surf other pages without losing the radio station. On Safari, as soon as I have the radio station playing, if I then want to look at other pages, the radio station web-page has automatically switched itself off. I am sure it is just something to do with the settings, but I don't seem able to fathom out what settings I need to change.

Apr 19, 2012I used to be able to scroll the pointer down to the lower right hand side of the screen to display the multiple Internet Explorer windows that i had open. Now, for some reason it wont work and the only way to do so is to minimize each screen till i find the right one. I am not sure what, if anything, i have done to change this setting.
