OS X Mavericks :: How To Clear / Reset Nonfunctional Login Memory
Aug 25, 2014
Some of my automatic logins that the mac remembers are incorrect and my issue is that when updated, are somehow not retained in the autologin. This means the feature is often useless and causes ultra frustration as I rely on it heavily.
How do I reset the disfunctional logins, or will I have to clear them all and start over, gah? It does not happen on all of them
My activity monitor says I'm suing 122.43 GB of virtual memory. I'm sure that the number is much, much less. But I would still like to reset the virtual memory.
I've just updated safari v5.1.7 and the clear history button does not reset the page. I use Ebay and when you go into an item the title goes to pink and usually clear history resets it to blue. But I've just done un update and now it's not working.
My new (January 2014) iMac was purchased with 16GB of RAM. My file cache keeps getting filled up. How to keep it cleared so it is not eating up my RAM?
OS X Maverick (10.9.3)..I have an iMac I need to have the user at the login window, log into AD. The iMac does not have an operable ethernet port. I suspect the iMac is old enough, the thunderbolt port is video only, since a known working thunderbolt to ethernet adapter did not connect (I think the iMac is Mid 2011 and I suspect the iMac is out of warranty). Wireless works fine, and I have made the iMac a member of the domain using the private network, after logging in locally. I cannot create the user's mobile account, because I need to have the iMac use wireless at login, connecting to the private network, at login.
Is there a way to have the login process use wireless to initiate the login for the mobile account and creation of said account?I know there is a way to do this under Windows, just hope there is a way under OS X.
how to i clear space on my mac hard drive its at 59 out of 60 gb and i don't see where the space is going i don't have that much on my mac apart from music
How do I reset my "login" keychain password? I can't remember it. If it needs deleting, I don't have many passwords stored in that since I use Firefox most of the time and it doesn't store passwords in the keychain.
But when I use Safari it keeps asking for my login keychain password repeatedly.
i went about fixing up my mac ibook g4. it sat around for a while and i forgot the password to my user name. no big deal, happened a few times. so i popped in the mac osx disk. i did reset password. now here is a whole new problem i never encountered. and im not very mac savvy. basically i have no login now. when i go to reset password again it list no accounts at all... when i click on the hard drive that is.... what can i do? i heard that u can make a user name using the mac terminal thing?
My Macbook Pro desktop is cluttered with icons. How can I clear it without deleting certain items that I might need later on. Where can I transfer them to be safely stored.

So I had my Macbook repaired, the hard drive wiped clean and OS X snow leoprd reinstalled. When I arrived home I downloaded and installed OS X Lion. The Mac-authorized techy had left all of the passwords blank fo me to fill in. So how do I set the new Admin login pw?
I forgot my login password to my macbookpro laptop and I'm trying to retrieve the old password or make a new password so I can login and use my computer

I understand why "Open With" includes both old and new versions of updated apps. Fine. But how do I CLEAR the list and prevent this from continuing? (I'd expect it to offer a "Clear List" option at the bottom. It doesn't.)

I have a colleague who is still running 10.2 (yea I know, time to upgrade, but they haven't felt the need for it yet I guess). Anyway, someone changed and forgot, or someone did it to be a jerk, either way they are unable to update any software or even log in. Just wondering how to rest the password. The computer is stuck on the log in screen currently and they can't access anything.
While working on my macbookpro with lion, I got a request to write my admin password for uninstall of an app. The thing is that my usual password didn't work. So I rebooted my mac and surprise, surprise: none of the user accounts (3), including root were accepting their own passwords! So I made CMD+R, Terminal, resetpassword, and changed them all, including ALCs reset: No effect on any user login! still gives me the shake's and after 3 trials the password hint...
Is there a way to reset the login password without the installation disk? Or is there a way to get a disk sent to me? I don't have mine anymore. I'm using OS X Lion v10.7
Info: MacBook Pro (13-inch Late 2011), Mac OS X (10.7.4)
I recently had to turn off my MacBook Pro after it hung for a long period of time. When I turned it back on again everything started as normal and I was able to enter my password at the login screen. However, once I do so I'm just presented with the wallpaper and my (working) mouse pointer. So far, I've tried the following without success:
1. Boot in Safe Mode
2. Ran fsck from Terminal
3. Tried PRAM reset
I've seen it suggested elsewhere that I should insert the install DVD but that's not in my possession unfortunately.
Does the login keychain have anything to do with the iTunes authorization required to play iTMS purchased music? If so, how do I reset the keychain without losing it?
The problem is that every so often the login keychain pops up asking me to enter a password. I've changed it and the keychain did not so they are out of sync. The only solution I've found was to delete the keychain. In 10.4.11 there doesn't appear to be any other way to sync the login password with the keychain password. Furthermore as I do not remember my old dotmac password nor my iTunes Music Store password, and as I no longer have access to either the Music Store nor dotmac, I worry that reseting the Keychain would lose access to all the music I've purchased throughout the years, and that's a lot of money spent for me to lose it.
The problems these brilliant people created are just so stupid I shutter to think what else they're messing up. I realize it's my fault for having to reset the password (even though it's a system bug in Mac OS X), but how do I resolve this problem?
I cannot get a solid answer on this one. Since the update it seems that safari fails to save my login info. For example I have to re-enter my username and pass for macrumors atleast once everyday. Also it seems that Safari occasionally hogs more memory and resources after extended use. Anyone else?
I have a Macbook Pro and I have been recently changing around my backgrounds including my login background. However, when I changed my background via command in the terminal by switching the defaultdesktop.jpg with another picture in the CoreServices folder, My picture does not show up on the login screen instead it is just a plain blue screen. Is there anyway to restore the original login background settings?because I actually found a program "loginox" that easily changes the login picture however, it will not open because it says I have changed the original background photo.
My name is David, I have a macbook pro 10.9.4. I want to reset everything totally. I have notice that the erase button eliminates the zero data function also the secure button.

My newish Canon LBP 6000 printer periodically stops working. I've always managed to get it going again by reinstalling it. This time, nothing I do is working. Here is a screen shot of what I get.
When I try to print, (first window, top left), the "sending data to printer" message goes on endlessly. I tried unplugging the printer USB from the computer, and then got the second window ("the printer is not connected"/"the printer is offline"). If I try to get supply levels, through System Utilities, the information is not available. Does that mean the computer can't read/send data to the printer? When I try to open Printer Utility, I get the "Printer Error" message (last window) saying "there are no registered printers. Add a printer..." But I've added the printer several times, after downloading the proper software.
I reset the printer system. When I added the printer back on, it came up with the old information:
P.S. From the first time I set up the printer, about a year ago, it always took much longer to read a document and start printing than our almost identical printer at work. That one invariably starts printing (on a PC) within 2 or 3 seconds; mine, on the Mac, takes at least12, often more.
