View 3 RepliesWhat is the purpose of setting the apple ID in Users and Groups preference pane of System Preferences? Is it really necessary? All of apples services can still be used without setting an apple ID (like iCloud, iMessages, FaceTime, iTunes, etc)I am sure apple has a reason for it just would like to know what it is. I was wondering if anyone knew where to find a map of the world where Apple is located... this would be great help for my research paper!

View 4 Replies View RelatedThis problem is on a Xserv G4.
The problem happened on the server installed with x.3.9 runnig for over a year, giving AFP, FTP, NFS, services and runnig OPEN DIRECTORY in REPLICA. The DHCP service is provided by a Xserv g5 giving Netboot service on the same subnet.
In Server Admin, Netboot lost the setting menu as I was accessing it. So no ports to see, no images can be added. The only menus available are
Overview
Log
Clients
The start button is shadded, so not avaiable.
Through TERMINAL, with sudo serveradmin start netboot I get
serveradmin[1076} Exeption in docommand: *** -[NSCFArray addObject:}: attempt to insert nil netboot:error = "NIL_RESPONSE_ERR (*** -[NSCFArray addObject:}: attempt to insert nil)"
I have undated to TIGER X.4.3, but of couse, it is the same. Everything else works.
After reinstalling a NEW system a reconfiguring EVERYTHING, I again lost the menus of NetBoot as I accessed them !!
Booting witn and external FireWire drive with a clone of my working SYSTEM in x.3.9 has the menus but the ports can't be seen.
A hardware problem ?
So i know this is gonna be a challenging one...
After a day of installing and trying/deleting new apps as well as trying terminal tricks from UsingMac.com like these and these, i went up to my apple menu in the menu bar for the first time since i started fiddling around, and it looks like what you see below in the attachment. I have absolutely no idea what made it happen; I'm just wondering if there is a way to reset the menu alone. because instead of having just what it says in the "system services" section in the menu, it has all that other stuff as well (Calculator, FruitMenu, etc.).
P.S.: Fruitmenu isn't even installed. i uninstalled it after i found out it was only a demo.
So basically:
1) how do i restore the main menu in the menu bar back to its original settings?
and 2) I need to do it in a way that wont screw up the rest of my computer or settings
I want to upgrade to a apple LED 24" Display or if apple invents a 27" LED one and I want to hook it up to both my MacBookPro 13" And my gaming PC. I know i'll need a KVM but need assurance it will work with all the converters. Can the 3 Apple cables be split up, video, Power ,and usb as I will use Power and USB on the Laptop, I'll need to go from display port to dvi, then dvi to to the KVM video switch box (Whats the TREDNET TK207K KVM switch like) Then from one of then dvi to dvi on my gaming pc and on the other dvi port all the way upto my macbook pro mini display port. Can it be done because I know too many converters will not work
View 5 Replies View RelatedI've purchased a Mac mini with the Apple mouse (Mighty mouse) and Apple keyboard and I can tell a difference between how tracking speeds on Mac's compared to PC's, in that with a Mac the tracking speed is less linear and slower if the mouse is moved slower and accelerated if the mouse is moved faster. I'm starting to adjust to this change but can you guys tell me what mouse speeds you have set for your mighty mouse and what screen size you have. Just want to see what speeds other people are using on their Mac's.
View 2 Replies View Relatedmy email server was recently hacked and the hosting company I use has sorted out a new server to use with the option of using SSL for incoming and outgoing mail.
Inputing the details of the standard incoming and outgoing mail servers is fine - I'm just trying to work out how I can input the SSL options?
Using Apple Mail 4.5 - how do I go about adding the Incoming Mail Server (SSL) (without a port number) and the Outgoing Mail Server (which does have a port number)?

The Apple menu, on all users accounts, is not working. The actual pull down menu doesn't pull down when I click on it. Also, if I try quitting applications by using the keyboard, it doesn't work. I have to force quit any application I open.
I tried repair disk permissions, and starting up in safe boot, but it didn't help.
When I add a new entry to my mac calendar it automatically sets 2 reminders, 30min before via notification and 30min before via mail. I don't want these settings, so every time I add a new entry I have to manually delete both reminders. That is really annoying if you create 20+ entries every day...
I couldn't find any settings about new entries?
i would like to make my mac just like new...

Is there a way that I can easily change the color of the apple in the menu bar (make it red) in Mac OS X (currently 10.5.6, but updating now).

Has anyone got a solution?! !
I know how to change the icons on the menu bar except one. I've looked on the internet but couldn't find any thing about how I can change the apple logo() in the left corner of the menu bar(application bar). I was hoping any of you guys could help me out on this.

I just looked up at my menu bar and the apple was pink. No idea what this means, if it means anything at all.

I'm guessing it's connected with my recently updating my MacBook Pro (2.9 GHz Intel Core i7) to OS 10.9.4. Whether I open Word by clicking on a Word document, opening it via Spotlight, or directly clicking the application icon itself, my keyboard is changed from Dvorak to the standard American English keyboard. And as if that weren't irritating enough, if I change the keyboard back to Dvorak, opening another Word document while Word is still open causes it to flip back to American English.
View 4 Replies View RelatedHad a problem with finding back files I just worked on. E.g. I was preparing an email with attachment. I would amend or create a file, save it somewhere. Then when I wanted to insert a file the dialog box would dump the file frustratingly right down below under the 'No Date' heading. I tried disabling the automatic time zone setting and it appears to have resolved the problem for now.

setting my Messages status to "Current iTunes Song" but NOT showing the green "Available" button, but the red "Away" button? I have tried using Custom "Away" and typing "Current iTunes Song", but that does not work. I basically want my Messages to show the iTunes song that I am currently playing, but indicate that I am busy. Cant one be listening to music while being busy?
I am running OS X Mavericks on a mid-2009 MBP.
When I go into Mail I can do everything I want but alas! It does not open the menu bits at the top. Thus I cannot do anything except what is available on the inbox screen... I have tried opening and closing and turning off etc. I would tell you what version I am in but that is in the menu and I can't open. I have updated to maverick.

I recently installed OS X Mavericks from scratch. I'm on the latest version (10.9.3) and running a dual monitor setup. I've noticed that one of the monitors seems to have a space in the menu bar as seen below (the empty space is to the right of 1password (the key icon)) :
The other monitor however doesn't have that space:
What's more interesting though is that clicking on that empty space makes it dispear on that monitor, but the empty space suddenly appears on the other monitor.

So I downloaded a drive program of a Razer mouse and I realized it did not work. So I deleted it.
But the problem is that it left a icon on my menu bar and I have tried the holding command and drag thing. It doesn't work..
I am wondering how, if possible, to set the default "reply-to" address on Apple Mail. I know I can manually add it to each message I compose, but that's rather cumbersome. I'd like to be able to configure Mail so every message I send out will automatically use the same "reply-to" mail address. Is it possible?

Choosing 'Sleep' from the Apple Menu doesn't put my iMac to sleep, the first time, sometimes not the second, usually third try after a lo-o-o-o-n-g delay. On first try, keyboard shortcut 'Sleep' worked; thereafter, instead, the same key combo causes Restart.
