What is the purpose of setting the apple ID in Users and Groups preference pane of System Preferences? Is it really necessary? All of apples services can still be used without setting an apple ID (like iCloud, iMessages, FaceTime, iTunes, etc)I am sure apple has a reason for it just would like to know what it is. It works perfectly when I click on "Run" within Automator. My my new service shows up in the System Preferences/Keyboard Shortcuts/Services and I was able to give it a Keyboard Shortcut. However, it does not show up in any menu,ie, Finder/Services.
I have an iMac running Mavericks 10.9.3 and Outlook 2011 (Fully up to date) and sync services aren't working. I've enabled them within Outlook and tried resetting Sync Services in terminal using the following command:
"defaults delete com.apple.SyncServer SyncServicesResetWorldRunOnce"
Outlook is full of contacts and calendar entries and I would expect to see all of these within Calendar and Contacts on OS X (I haven't even had a prompt to merge with Calendar and Contacts) I'm trying to get this work so that I connect a Blackberry and sync using the Blackberry Desktop Manager.

This summer, however, neither of my two machines can use the location services, but the wifi still works perfectly well. I have a Netgear router and it's fairly old, but why should it suddenly stop working? What can I do to try to start getting it to work again? Should I fiddle around in the 192.168.0.1 url or whatever it is?

I know i'll need a KVM but need assurance it will work with all the converters. Can the 3 Apple cables be split up, video, Power ,and usb as I will use Power and USB on the Laptop, I'll need to go from display port to dvi, then dvi to to the KVM video switch box (Whats the TREDNET TK207K KVM switch like) Then from one of then dvi to dvi on my gaming pc and on the other dvi port all the way upto my macbook pro mini display port. Everything I heard about Leopard was it was it's the best most stable OS ever made, and judging from a lot of people this is apples Best OS. Enter Snow Leopard- Lots of "under the hood" improvements 64bit faster, leaner but could this cause consumers a bunch of headaches?
Lots of compatibility issues, Buggy OS since its re-written lots of crashes and weirdness? I understand they are trying to move from 32 bit to 64 and using this new quasi 32/64 kernel and os but if consumers hears it's buggy, its slower (which some major sites are reporting in terms of graphics etc.) is Apple leaving the door open for ridicule (commercials) bashing Snow Leopard?
I am a windows and new OS X user so I like both, but if Snow Leopard requires a bunch of patches and fixes to get it stable and fast than what makes it any better than Vista was? For the record I am a Technet user as well and have been using the new Windows 7 x64 and it is rock solid, fast and stable. (minus the viruses). Don't get me wrong I am not bashing Apple I just got a system for Snow Leopard I am just asking if anyone here would be willing to criticize apple if the new OS is a mess?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI've purchased a Mac mini with the Apple mouse (Mighty mouse) and Apple keyboard and I can tell a difference between how tracking speeds on Mac's compared to PC's, in that with a Mac the tracking speed is less linear and slower if the mouse is moved slower and accelerated if the mouse is moved faster. I'm starting to adjust to this change but can you guys tell me what mouse speeds you have set for your mighty mouse and what screen size you have. Just want to see what speeds other people are using on their Mac's.

When I add a new entry to my mac calendar it automatically sets 2 reminders, 30min before via notification and 30min before via mail. I don't want these settings, so every time I add a new entry I have to manually delete both reminders. That is really annoying if you create 20+ entries every day...

I have been thinking about stepping up from my MBP 13" to a top spec imac but looking at the specs see that the GPU fitted is what I would class as incredibly out of date and can bought for about �75 new. This is really putting me off thinking about buying one and considering the imac was only "updated" not long ago does anyone know Apples logic for fitting such an old GPU? The 5750 is about 6 generations behind the latest. I realise GPU's get released constantly but not that quickly so that this new imac is this far behind. I wanted to use a mac for heavy photo and video and the odd gaming and although the 5750 is sufficient it just bugs me that I know it's a "budget" card.

Being a csual user of computers and not having a strong background in programming or software, it is very hard to try and make sense of the extremely strong and conflicting reviews and comments on sites such as Mac Update. I'm guessing it's connected with my recently updating my MacBook Pro (2.9 GHz Intel Core i7) to OS 10.9.4. Whether I open Word by clicking on a Word document, opening it via Spotlight, or directly clicking the application icon itself, my keyboard is changed from Dvorak to the standard American English keyboard. And as if that weren't irritating enough, if I change the keyboard back to Dvorak, opening another Word document while Word is still open causes it to flip back to American English.

Then when I wanted to insert a file the dialog box would dump the file frustratingly right down below under the 'No Date' heading. I tried disabling the automatic time zone setting and it appears to have resolved the problem for now.

I can get No SideBar to stick but no matter what I do I can't get No ToolBar to stick.

setting my Messages status to "Current iTunes Song" but NOT showing the green "Available" button, but the red "Away" button? I have tried using Custom "Away" and typing "Current iTunes Song", but that does not work. I am wondering how, if possible, to set the default "reply-to" address on Apple Mail. I know I can manually add it to each message I compose, but that's rather cumbersome. I'd like to be able to configure Mail so every message I send out will automatically use the same "reply-to" mail address. Is it possible?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a lab of ~30 MacBook Airs running OS 10.9.4. We have MS students login using the Guest account with no password. The Guest account folder is deleted after every logout. Starting this week we are seeing keychain popups saying: A keychain cannot be found to store "Safari." or "Chrome." selecting Reset To Defaults makes no difference.
Opening Keychain Access is a slow process, but it does eventually come up. There is no Login keychain. And the Local Items and System Roots keychains are locked and do not open with a blank password.
Frankly, I don't want this guest account to be remembering any URL related password. So is there a way to shut down or highly restrict the Keychain functionality? If not, what do I need to do to fix or prevent all these popup messages and system pauses as the MacBook figures out for the nth time that Keychain isn't working as it expects it to?
