OS X :: Wired Apple Mouse - Best Speed Setting For It?

Apr 18, 2010

I've purchased a Mac mini with the Apple mouse (Mighty mouse) and Apple keyboard and I can tell a difference between how tracking speeds on Mac's compared to PC's, in that with a Mac the tracking speed is less linear and slower if the mouse is moved slower and accelerated if the mouse is moved faster. I'm starting to adjust to this change but can you guys tell me what mouse speeds you have set for your mighty mouse and what screen size you have. Just want to see what speeds other people are using on their Mac's.

OS X :: Setting Up A Wired Network?

Jun 14, 2009

So I got a new Macbook about 3 months, and I've been sitting on a couch in the same room with the wireless router. However I'm getting a bit sick of having to use a couch as my desk and I want to get internet in my room.

Our house, is reasonbly new, and I know that all the phone wires are cat5 (I'm 100% sure), so I was thinking of setting up a wired network.

Since our house is made up of concrete and steel beams, the wireless signal isn't that great in our house. We have a D-Link G604T which is a piece of junk so I will get a new router in the near future.

So currently, we have some sort of filter in the room where the router is, so we can plug in the router without having to worry about putting filters on all of our telephone lines.

However, if I were to put internet in through the same line, I'm guessing I would have to get some filters.

Hopefully what I want to do is get a phone jack to Ethernet converter and put internet directly into the wall and hopefully I will get internet in all of the phone jacks. I could probably take the cable out and put a Ethernet end straight on the cable.

I was also thinking If I get a airport extreme of some other gigabit router, I would technically get less latency and would retain my internet speeds even though I would getting internet through a long line of cables.

Looking for an alternate wired mouse to the Mighty Mouse thats works flawlessly on a Mac Pro under Snow Leopard. Also an answer from somebody on this who does not get any kernel panics would be good. I ask this because I haveread of somebody who was using a MS mouse which should have worked on a Mac Pro but turned out that the softwareprovided with said MS mouse was calling bad Kernel Extensions and was therefore causing Panics.

Hardware :: Mod BT Mighty Mouse Into Wired Mouse

Jul 28, 2010

I'll try to keep my post short somewhat: I've acquired what appeared to be my most useless piece of equipment: the bluetooth mighty mouse. I am not against wireless stuff per se, I love the keyboard. But the mouse has these annoying problems:

1. Batteries wear out way too fast.
2. Trackball clogs way too easily.

Now I can do without scrolling down, and might clean the thing one day from the insides, but what annoys me is the battery life. And having to buy batteries every other week. A simple workaround would be to buy a cheap wired mouse. But for the sake of thinking about a project, has anyone with some background in electronics tried, or tried to think of the possibility, of modding a mighty mouse and enable it to get some juice through USB?.......................

I have tried the following

- Resetting the pmc.
- Rebooting / shutting down, swapping USB ports.
- Verify HD permissions
- Disabling bluetooth (even tho this is wired usb mouse I've seen people mention this so just before you do!)
- Plugged the mouse into a Windows 7 Machine (sorry its not mine! :-) and YES it works fine!

I've had my imac for over a year and a half now with no troubles. But, the last couple of weeks my wireless keyboard has not been working. A message pops up saying that the connection has been lost. Then, the wired mouse moves around....but won't select or highlight anything...the 'click' doesn't work. Then all of a sudden everything goes back to normal.

MacBook :: Mouse Wheel Speed Unaffected By Mouse Preferences

Jun 11, 2009

I'm using a Logitech MX 518 mouse. It was working fine with the exception of the two side buttons; they weren't set up the way I liked and the mouse control panel did not let me change them. I installed some Logitech drivers (lcc213) that were supposed to support the mouse; upon reinstalling the mouse was not recognized by the Logitech software. The scroll wheel became very sluggish (maybe scrolling one line, and seemingly no acceleration). I removed the Logitech software and restarted, but now my mouse is stuck that way - moving the scroll speed in the Mouse preferences all the way to the left or all the way to the right makes no difference.

Is there any way to reset the mouse drivers or whatever might be messed up, short of a reinstall?

I even tried to use USB Overdrive and that likewise has no effect on the scroll speed.

MacBook Pro :: Apple Wired Keyboard - Differences Between One With And Without Number Pad

Sep 1, 2009

I want to get the apple wired keyboard (not the wireless), but I'm undecided on which version. Is the shorter wired version a lot more cramped than the longer one, in respect to the majorily used keys, or is the spacing the same between the characters for both keyboards. I never use a num pad normally and would like to free up a little space on my desk, but I'm worried that the rest of the keys will be more cramped and uncomfortable to type on.

Mac Pro :: SMC Control - Setting Safe Fans Speed

Jul 29, 2008

During the summer, I don't have A/C in my house. My temps were getting pretty high, around 55C/130F for processors and up to 78c/172f for ram. That is pretty high, and I suspect it is because the ambient temp in my room is somewhere in the 90s. I am just very acclimated to the heat, and it doesn't bother me.

I downloaded SMC Fan control and bumped the min fan speeds up to:
1250rpm for Exhaust
1150rpm for CPU
800rpm for Power Supply
1350rpm for HD

This has made a tremendous difference. CPU is down over 20C and ram is down about 30-35C. Are these fan speeds safe? What are the Mac Pro fans rated at, and will the increased speed shorten their lifespan? I'd like to keep these current fan speeds if it is safe.

Intel Mac :: Apple Wired Keyboard Allegedly Drawing Too Much Power

Mar 13, 2012

Whilst working on my iMac as per normal, I get this little window that pops up declaring that a USB decice is drawing too much power from my computer and as as a result, one or more of my USB devices has been disabled.

This is not an alien dialogue box to me, I have seen it many times. The problem this time is that, when I removed all my devices to see which one was causing the message to pop up, I discovered that it was my keyboard that was misbehaving.

When the message pops up it states that the offending device has been disabled. This cannot be the case however, as I am able to press enter to close it, and if the keyboard truly is the problem then I shouldn't be able to close it with enter because it would have been disabled... right?

Wondering if anyone else has had this problem. My keyboard is the standard wired + number pad one shipped free with new iMacs. It's not a custom one, it's apple stock through and through.

The baffling thing is that this has only just occured. In the year or two since I bought my iMac it's never been a problem.

Yes I have tried using a different USB slot, and no that doesn't fix it.

This box keeps popping up unless I disconnect my keyboard which of course is no way to use the computer, and I don't have a spare keyboard handy.

Hardware :: Setting Mouse Accelration?

Dec 14, 2010

So I just bought a Magic Mouse today and am a bit torn between keeping it or returning it. The deciding factor is ultimately the most important one - tracking quality. Acceleration works fine for my MBP trackpad, but in terms of mice it is absolutely unacceptable IMO. I am trying to find a way to strike a balance, and it seems the only way to do it is by disabling acceleration altogether. So far the only thing that has worked is the killacceleration script that someone here posted, but it is not perfect because you have to run it every time you restart/make any changes to tracking speed. Has anyone found a solution to this problem? I need to add that I depend on Better Touch Tool, so things like USB Overdrive that kill acceleration won't work for me, because they additionally overwrite any BTT gestures/settings

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Use A Different Scroll Setting For Mouse And Track Pad?

Mar 28, 2012

I'd like to be able to hook a mouse up to Macbook Air and have it scroll properly, without breaking the scroll direction on its trackpad (or my magic pad). In other words, I want to disable "Move content in the direction of finger movement when scrolling" for mice, and enable "Scroll direction: natural" for trackpads. These seem to be the same setting, though, as checking/unchecking one has the same effect on the other.

How can I do this, as I'd love to be able to easily switch to a mouse, without having to mentally reverse the direction of the scroll wheel.

OS X :: How To Speed Up Mouse Tracking

Nov 1, 2009

Open a Terminal Window and type the following: defaults write -g com.apple.mouse.scaling 5.0. "5.0" being the number designating the speed. Change that number to whatever you like. I've got my Magic Mouse set to 150 or so. This does not change the acceleration, just the scaling. Altering the setting via the preferences pane overrides the Terminal command. Log out and back in to activate. For a more complete solution, get USB Overdrive.

IMac :: Mouse Pointer Tracking Speed Very Slow

Mar 17, 2009

I just opened my brand new 2009 24inch IMac! The Mouse pointer speed is very very slow. I adjusted the tracking speed to the fastest possible, but this is still under par. I typed my question in google and it directed me to download a program called "Mouse Zoom" which was downloaded onto my... "Desktop." I didn't click the icon to run it because I am afraid of a virus. Is "Mouse Zoom" safe to click on? Will it fix the problem, or is there an alternative to this issue? I cant imagine something so nice being crippled by something as simple as mouse speed.
