OS X :: Exchange Folder Syncing In Snow Leopard Mail

Sep 6, 2009

Apple's new OSX Snow Leopard includes native Exchange email sync using Exchange Web Services but it seems that this does not sync emails in the same way outlook does: emails on Mail.app only update when you open a specific folder on your exchange mailbox (like IMAP does) and not like Outlook on windows where folders are updated in the background. does anyone know about this behavior and if it can be changed on Mail to work in the background? I've only tried this on a developer beta (latest version) of SL briefly and noticed this behavior but would like to get feedback from those that may have upgraded.

Software :: Finding Snow Leopard Mail And Exchange

Sep 15, 2009

I was thrilled to see Exchange support in Mail/Snow Leopard, but I am less than thrilled with the experience! I should note that my first tests were to set this up as an Exchange 2007 account; I have not yet attempted to use the Exchange IMAP type account, but shall try that later.

Setting it up was quite easy, and I was able to start retrieving emails immediately. Sending is another matter.

1. The sent emails do not show up in my Sent folder for that account, nor on any smart folders that I defined.

2. Multiple instances of the message are stored in the Drafts folder for some reason. There is always more than one message, and often more than two (once there were six copies of the message in the drafts!).

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Way To Disable Autodiscover For Exchange In Mail?

May 8, 2012

I am trying to access my exchange server for work. The autodiscover sets the exchange server to the wrong site (whether this is a Mail issue or a server issue, I'm not sure...); I am trying to disable autodiscover so that I can manually set the exchange server in a permanent way. Is this possible? When I contacted IT at work, this was their response: "Mac users are pointed to a different server address due to incompatibilities with the Mac applications that handle mail (Entourage, Macmail). The issue is that an auto-discover feature within the application causes the software to connect to the incorrect address automatically, therefore you must change it each time. Unfortunately Macmail and Entourage cannot disable this function and we recommend using Outlook 2011 for Mac. There is a script file available to disable autodiscovery in Outlook 2011 and it will retain the proper mail server settings."

Applications :: Snow Leopard's Mail App Gets Exchange Push Slowly - How To Fix It

Jan 24, 2010

I have Snow Leopard's Mail App configured with my university's Exchange 2007 server. My iPhone gets mail pushed the second it is received, but it may take my Mail app on Snow Leopard several minutes to receive pushed mail unless I manually hit Get Mail. Any idea why this would be or how I can fix it?

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: OSX Mail App Uses Lots Of Memory With Exchange Change

Jun 1, 2012

A couple weeks back, we switched from exchange 2007 to exchange 2010.The only change required on the OSX mail client was to change the server address.I have two macbook pros, one is a 2GB early vintage intel, and the other a more recent 4GB model. Both of them are configured for access to the exchange server. Both are running 10.6.Once the change was made, both clients started using huge amounts of memory. This isn't a leak, as is reported in some Lion threads, because it eventually comes back down again. When you start the client, it might use about 150MB of RAM.After a while I have seen as much as 1.6GB of RAM usage on the 4GB machine. If you take the exchange account out of the mix (disable it in preferences) the client consistently stays at about 75MB of RAM.The peak isn't limited by the client as far as I can tell -- it basically uses up all free memory and drives the system completly nuts. Many of the applications no longer perform well once they are subjected to memory starvation, and this includes the mail client itself.

I am now running the activity window with Mail to see if I can spot a pattern, but in one case I watched Mail's memory usage grow in Activity Monitor with nothing in the Activity screen.I aso tried creating a new account instance on the 4GB machine, but without any cached data the behavior was far worse. It very quickly consumes the entire machine and doesn't seem to return to normal.I am firmly convinced this is a side effect of changing the exchange service or one of the exchange settings, if for no other reason than the behavior is new on two systems. It's still unforgivable for the Mail client to do this -- if it can consume all available memory then it needs to monitor itself and defer or break up what it is trying to do.I am a great fan of this mail client but this is so unusable that it might force me back to outlook running in a VM.

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Syncing Contacts From Mail Program To Address Book

Apr 23, 2012

How to make the contacts I have through the Mail program sync up or copy over to my Address Book? Speaking of which, does anyone know how to delete contacts from my Mail? When I go to send an email it can populate the send field with previously-written to contacts, but I can't seem to delete some I don't need/use. That's when I found out that my Address Book doesn't reflect the same things which lead me to asking.

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Cannot Restore A Mail Folder In Library

May 25, 2012

When I try to restore the mail folder I get a permission error. Yet in info I have read, write permission for myself. I could not restore even a file in the library "mail folder. It maybe I cannot restore any file or folder because of permission problems.  I ran disk utility and di a repair permissions. I even tried to do the I tunes folder. Same denial, do not have permission.

I started with a problem with my mailboxes I had in a import folder in mail. They did not list alpha and other querks.  Read on a help page that you need to rebuild mailbox.  The import mailbox was grayed out and I cannot rebuild.  Also, I cannot delete or change any of the mailboxes inside the import mailbox.

Back to the rebuild, the site said to trash the envelope index file.  I di and know I cannot read any messages stored in the folders that were in the import folder. This is where I decided maybe I could use time machine and get a copy of the old envelope index and replace it.  No dice"not sufficient permissions. What a mess cannot read saved messages unless I go to library and find them.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Exchange Email Won't Stop Syncing Inbox On Mac?

Jun 17, 2012

I've been using Macs, iPhones, and iPads for many years, but I've never tried to setup my work Exchange account with my Mac until I just purchased a MacBook Air as a second computer (to use partially for work).  I was hoping that it would work just like it does on my iPhone and iPad and it appears like it should, but in Mail it just keeps syncing.  It looks like most (I'm not sure if it's all) of my email has come in, but sending and receiving is very slow and it seems to be continuously syncing.  I'm basing this on the appearance of the circling graphic just to the rght of the Inbox.  This is the one that looks like spinning dashes in a circle, not the one that looks like a pie showing completion status of the sync.  However, the Mail Activity box in the lower left doesn't show anything.

My company uses Microsoft Exchange 2010 and I'm running the latest and updated version of Lion (in fact it's one of the new Airs that just came out this week), so I'd expect this to work.  Calendar and Contacts seem to be sycing just fine.

Does anybody have any expertise with this?  I've already waited several hours and I've tried it for both mine and my wife's account (both Exchagne 2010) with the same result.

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: How To Copy The Folder Structure Without The Folder Contents

Apr 28, 2012

I would like to create an archive of important application installers and I will sync the contents between two systems MacPro and Macbook Pro.

I need to pull the names of the application/developers from somewhere so I figured I would use the Application Support directory.

So I need a way to copy this directories folder structure without any of the file contents.  Is there an easy way to do this.  I found a post with an Automator script but the link is dead [URL]

I also found this post that refers to doing it in terminal but since it is the app support directory I am wary to do this as I am not familiar with terminal at all and I am not clear on what exactly to write in the old_dir / new_dir section.  I figure it would be something like this /Library/Application Support but I dont want to make a mistake.

Here is the Terminal command:

cd old_dir
find . -type d -depth -print | cpio -pd new_dir
