OS X V10.7 Lion :: Work Around For Loss Of Mail Rule Syncing?
Jul 5, 2012
Since MobileMe has been axed, mail rule syncing does not work anymore. Is there an alternative to get mail rules to sync with iCloud or other tools? It is stupid to have different clients using the same (IMAP) account(s) but different rule sets.

I've read some threads but none truly answer my question. I have learnt I need to create a rule in CLOUD as mail is sent to all devices from there and if I create the rule in MAIL on my desktop it does not solve the issue as it will still get sent to other devices, correct?
I want to create a rule for junk. Ever changing junk email addresses, content etc. Sometime mail recognies it and sometimes not. How can I set up a rule, filter, etc to delete these permamnently . Its hard when the sender address is ever changing, or the content is never the same. IE one day it is from weatherx@
next time w3ath3rx@, next vveatherx@..it is so annoying. Or the content like I saw this morning every single word had a 20 in front of it...

Apple mail out of office rule is sending auto replies to all emails not just newly received emails--HELP! I set up the rule according to another apple support thread and instead of only sending the reply to new mail received, it was sent to all messages I believe that were in my INBOX, I only had a few but several people that hadn't sent me emails since I set up the rule, received the OUT OF OFFICE reply. Here is the procedure I followed for the out of office rule-[URL]I just used my email account which is a business account- not an ECU account but these rules according to the apple thread apply for all emails.

Using Macbook Air, get low battery warning. Finish what I'm doing, close screen at 0:00 remaining time. Apparently it didn't sleep in time before battery drained completely, since when opening after plugging a minute or two thereafter it went into cold restart. (Btw, I've had the machine just shut down instead of going into deep sleep on low battery a few times before, would like to fix this too...)
All my programs reopened, except Mail loaded the "Welcome to Mail" splash screen, with my name and one of my email addresses autofilled, but none of my regular accounts. I canceled and it closed. Repaired permissions, verified disk, no problems. After searching the forums, turned invisible files on, fired up my Time Machine backup, and restored a recent pre-crash version of Mail preferences plist in user/Library/Preferences. Start up Mail again: same "Welcome to Mail" splash screen.
Called Apple Care, they wanted me to do a full restore from Time Machine backup. But my backup is a week old and I will lose data not covered in the meantime--I still want to find a way to get Mail back working without doing this. The only other suggestion was clear caches, restart, try again. I fired up Onyx, executed maintenance scripts, rebuilt Mail's envelope index, cleared system and user caches, and still no dice.
how to get Mail to recognize my old preferences plist instead of heading straight to the splash screen? To restore to all my email again without a full restore from week old back up?

it is possible to create a rule that will override another rule?
Basically, I have a rule set up so that the background goes green if the email was sent to a certain email address.
I'd like to create another rule (or edit the existing rule) so that the background will change to a different colour if the email was sent from a specific person (email address).

10.7.3, bound to AD Several questions that I can't seem to find the answer to on apple's KB. 1. When setting up an iphone to synch with the lion server, why does it only present mail and notes for synch? Is this just how it works, you have to setup the different services seperately for mail, contacts, and calendar? I can't believe that when an iphone has builtin support for exchange.
2. I followed [url] to get ical working for AD users. I also followed http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5276 to get push notifications in ical and addressbook working for AD users. It was initially working after following this doc, however now it's not. Even after restarting just get invalid username or password. The log file shows something about an OD crash which seems to coincide with an attempt to login to iCal using AD credentials.
3. I cannot edit user's shortnames via WGM. Even so, it wouldn't accomplish what i need. So i'm fine with just manually creating aliases. I tried to edit the postfix aliases file for a test alias group: user1, user2 Doesn't work even after restarting mail it says it's unknown user. Mailman doesn't work the way i expected. I need to create distrobution groups, not a maillist.

I am running Lion (latest ver) on my iMac (2011, i7), and have icloud set up to sync mail (and other stuff) with my iPhone 4. My iCloud account Sent Mail and Drafts are being syncronized between the cloud the iPhone, but not the iMac. So for example, I see 2 items in my Drafts folder when I log into icloud.com, and I see them in the drafts folder on iPhone mail, but they do not appear in the drafts folder for my iCloud account on Mail.app on the iMac. Also, I don't see emails I sent from icloud.com on my Mac's mail. I have iCloud enabled on the mac, and mail syncing is specifically turned on.

I've got a new Macbook Pro that I'm syncing through MobileMe to the older macbook pro it's replacing, as well as my desktop iMac. It has synced the mail properly, but on the laptop, which has been my main mac for mail etc, there are a lot of folders, old mail etc. I never had these folders etc on the desktop. I would now like to sync (copy) these folders and all the saved mail in them to the new laptop, and sync the whole thing with the iMac.

Since the update I have had applications hanging and crashing. Mostly Mail, iTunes, and Safari. What is more annoying however is when the computer is inactive for an hour or so, I lose internet connectivity and have to shut down and reboot in order to get it back. I am on a wired connection and sharing another wired connection through the second ethernet port.It seems like 10.7.4 really messed with my machine...

My wife does not adapt well to change. She can't deal with the new Lion Finder GUI, the new Lion Mail GUI (yes, even with classic view), and trackpad settings. How do I get back the same functionality that was in Snow Leopard? Is their a Apple solution or even a third party solution?
BTW, I have adapted, but it *****, and I've had no problems with switching to new operating systems since Mac OS 6 ->.

Configuration: I have the latest iMac running Mountian Lion. I connect via WiFi to a Linksys modem that is connected to my ISP's WiFI modem which connects to a tower a few miles away which, in turn, connects to the ISP's processors somewhere nearby.
On the network diagnostics Network status there are indicators for WiFi, WiFi settings, Network Settings, ISP, Internet and server.
Occasionally the internet and server indicators go to yellow and then red resulting in no connection. I have reset the Linksys, the ISP WiFi modem, both and it does not seem to make any difference. Eventually the Internet and Server indicators return to green and the connection is restored. When they are yellow or red, it affects all processors in the house (iMac, Macbook Pro, iPad, iPod, etc).

So I have 3 Mac's here all running Lion. I deleted all bookmarks from one Mac and turned on and off the Bookmark Sync button inside system pref, then hit "Merge". It found something from somewhere and stuffed it in there. I've done the Merge part on the other Macs but I can't seem to affect what's in there. So how do you manage this? And why does it keep putting "untilted folder" in the bottom - I've deleted about 3 each session...Really I've got one Mac that I want to be the master for now - but isn't the point of this so you can quickly add a bookmark and it will show up everywhere. I'm not even trying to deal with iOS yet. (bookmarks there are kindof secondary - since I'm only using an iPod Touch.)

Anyone can help? I bought a Macbook pro last weekend, but when I try to use the mac mail,I cannot find any way to input an email address.
1、update my gmail contacts to the macbook addressbook
2、Synchronize the local addressbook to icloud
3、Open the mac mail, and then create a new mail
then comes my problem,no matter what I type , the address has never show. As I know , the correct result should be:1、Just need to type a few main words in the "sent to" column ,os will search the local addressbook and show the corresponding address for user to choose.

I've had this email account with AT&T for a few years and it has worked with Mac Mail with no difficulty for a few years. Recently the account has been able to receive messages. Every time I hit Get Mail it asks for a password. I have installed all the latest updates through Software Update. I have a Mac Mini with OS Lion. After struggling for awhile, my inbox eventually comes in. I have reset all the incoming and outgoing POP Server accounts, as well as used the Web-mail version through [URL] and it all works fine.

The program Mail works great for me at home. But, when I take my laptop to my office, or I use it at a coffee shop, or wherever, I can't send emails. It'll access the server and get emails, but I can't send them. My mac email is IMAP, rather than POP, if that makes a difference. Is this something that I should be able to do, or does Mail need to be hooked up to my home network to work properly?

Can I sync my read messages on mail.app with gmail? For example:
I'll open up mail.app and see a message "Subject 1 - jondoe@me.com" and read it. But when I go to my gmail inbox on Firefox, it is still unread.
Can I sync them so I don't have to read messages over again?

I have a new iMac and iPhone 4.0. All software is up to date and I have installed the free beta version of Mountain Lion which let me use iChat on my computer. Safari intermittently stops working. Mail won't access my mailboxes if Safari is running. Now iTunes won't find my iPhone when it's locked and in a dock charging. If I restart I can do 1 thing at a time, but I can't have Safari running and use Mail. I've emptied my cache, checked my passwords. It's none of that.By process of elimination, there is some kind of conflict between using multiple applications on the Internet at the same time. Sometimes after I've gone to several Internet sites Safari will stop working properly even though all other applications have been "quit".

My MacBook and iPhone seem to be sycing Mail and iCal fairly well. I can't seem to figure out why my iMac won't join the party.
I think I have all of the settings turned on correctly in Preferences. I am using a Gmail account, Hotmail account and iCloud account in that order.

My wife has Mavericks and uses OSX Mail with Hotmail. (I have my 12 year old G4 with Tiger OS and a $10 burner cellphone. I'm IT support at home but don't actually have any of the gadgets so it makes it tough to explore answers myself.) She also does things with her email on her iPhone, and occasionally will use the web based interface directly to the Hotmail account. The devices are currently all talking to each other and when she moved a message in Mail it appeared in the folder on her iPhone. When she deleted it on her iPhone it disappeared from the folder in Mail on her computer.
Now let's say at some stage her iPhone is in airplane mode, her computer is not connected to wi-fi, and she logs into her email account on another computer using the web interface. Let's say she then does different things to the same message on each of the devices while they are not connected such as delete the email on one device, move it to one folder on another, and move it to a different folder on the third device. Then she turns off airplane mode, turns on wi-fi. What takes precedence? Which action will get synced to the other two?
