I have followed the appropiate steps to transfer data from a PC to my iMac (with Migration Assistant). The transfer has been going on for 2 days now and I'm getting frustrated with the long wait. I think I must have asked to transfer too much data but when I try to cancel the transfer, I get a message saying that it is not recommended to terminate the process. What happens if I cancel the transfer now, despite the recommendation not to? Will either or both my computers suffer irreparable damage? Will I loose the data in my PC? Will I not be able to try again?
I just installed the brand new OS X 10.10 Yosemite beta 2 on a USB thumb drive. It almost works.Â
Now I want to boot my good old OS X 10.9 Mavericks from the SSD.
But there is no option for that, if I reboot the macbook holding the opt key!Â
I see only "Install OS", "Recover 10.9" and "OS X Yosemite", if I plug in the thumb drive.Â
But if I boot the OS X 10.10 beta 2 from the thumb drive, I can browser my SSD "Macintosh HD", see all the folders and files, it's still there!Â
If I choose "Recover 10.9", it says, I can re-install the OS X or recover my Mac from the time machine or ask for online support, what I'm actually doing.Â
How can I make the SSD bootable again, without re-installing the OS X and losing my data? Yes, there is still an option to restore from the time machine, but it's too long, I need my computer now.Â

I have a problem with my console: it shows an error I can't understand. "10/04/2012 12:11:50.865 com.apple.SystemStarter: waiting the veneer insert!" It is repeated many times inside the console. what does it means?
I have a Macbook (10.4). When I try to open a .jar file, I got a message like: can't open. In the Console, the error message is: Exception in thread "main" java.lang.UnsupportedClassVersionError: Bad version number in .class file
I googled it and it seem that something is missing from my OS, since the .jar file has been "compiled" with something that I don't have (??). Software update is ok, and on the terminal (don't ask me how I arrived there): java version "1.5.0_13" Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.5.0_13-b05-241) Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.5.0_13-121, mixed mode, sharing)

I am trying to connect from my macbook pro to iMac by using remote management with allow access for All Users but cannot get to connect from MBP to iMac. I can connect without problems from iMac to MBP. The macbook pro just sits trying to connect.
I check the log on the iMac and see the new entry appear during connect attempt of: 3/31/12 7:14:55.979 AM ScreensharingAgent: [CL_INVALID_DEVICE] : OpenCL Error : Failed to create context! Invalid device
Firewall turned off on both machines. I have created a new user on the Macbook to see if that could be the solution but still same occurrence.
I have a Macbook pro and when I turn on the computer the message: "NO bootable devices, insert a boot disk and press any key" appears. I click the button "alt" and I choose the option Macintosh HD and the computer works. But I can't do this procedure always. This problem started after install the Paragon software to save my files on the external hd. How can I fix that?
I'm receiving the "no boot-able device insert boot disk and press any key" error every time I go to turn on my macbook air. The screen chimes, turns on and then goes black. I've been holding down the option key and that seems to work but do I have to do this every time I turn my computer on from now on?
When trying to upgrade from snow leopard to Lion, I get the message "An error occurred while preparing the installation.Try running the application again."I am installing on a raid drive, which is supposedly ok.Â
there seems to be an issue with my mid-2010 MacBook Pro, running OS X Maverick 10.9.4. When in console, precisely every 5 seconds, this same message pops up:Â
In OSX 10.9.2 [mavericks]Â when I shrink a document [yellow button] where it goes nor how to retrieve it. Sometimes they stay for a while in 'application windows' but then soon disappear. Does they are visible somewhere as thumbnails and can be retrieved as I used to be able to do in snow Leopard?
I am trying to get the google searcher in safari (the one at the top of the window, not a toolbar or whatever) to search UK sites not US, just sommat thats been bugging me a bit recently, searching Amazon.com not .co.uk etc etc anybody got any hints on that? I read elsewhere on here that I can apparently do the above mod by installing SIMBL and getting that to work in inputmanagers etc. However I have an issue the .pkg file wont install.
I have a mac mini. I used boot camp Assistant to install windows 7, and to make the partition screen stayed black and I get the following poster:Â "no bootable device- insert boot disk and press any key".
In Mac OS 10.6, the Console.app had an option to show the "Console Log" which included what looks like the stdout/stderr message of running applications not explicitly sent to syslog. The option showed up as the second option in the system log queries/database queries list on the Log List.In 10.7, the only option is "All Messages" and there does not appear to be a way to view the "console log" as it was in 10.6. Is there a way to turn this on in 10.7? Does the Mac no longer provide a way to see the stdout/stderr messages for running applications (those run as .app and not from terminal)?see attached screen shots (left is 10.6/right is 10.7) with console messages option missing.
[URL] input Music into vent and whenever I press "start" I either Get an Error Saying "cannot start Jack server, Please Check preferences or retry after a system reboot" or "Fatal error has occurred shutting down." and I reinstalled it and Used the default preferences
My PPPoE is set to "Connect automatically when needed", and my login items include Dropbox. Therefore my MBP automatically tries to connect to PPPoE every time when it wakes up from sleep. However, most of the time the connection would fail, staying in the "Connecting..." status forever; no internet available. To terminate this awkward status I clicked "Disconnect", then it just switched to "Disconnecting…" and stayed there forever, not allowing me to reconnect. The problem can be solved only by rebooting the computer, and can be avoided if I disable "Connect automatically when needed" (manual connection always works).Â
If I want to have "Connect automatically when needed" enabled, how do I force terminate and retry the connection everytiwhen it fails?
I completely rebuilt an old G4 Power Mac: Upgraded the system firmware. The problem is that applications like Itunes, Safari, etc, crash, they "Terminate Unexpectedly" after 5 mins or so. I have removed all PCI cards except the ATI Rage 128 Video card and it still happens. So, I have three thoughts:
1) The programs in 10.5 were written to run on Intel, and there is no hope. 2) Some piece of hardware in the G4 is causing the crashing. 3) The Rage 128 is the only original piece of hardware left....could the Rage firmware be causing the problem?
I don't have another MAC video card to try. Is there a way to upgrade the firmware in the Rage 128? I looked all over the net but could not find any.
I have a mechanical fault with my combo drive (cdrw/dvd) in my Powerbook 12" 1.5 GHz running Leopard which makes it noisy even when there is no disk in there. Is it possible to disable the device by removing it from the device tree in Open Firmware before OS X boots? It sounds like the drive is checking for a disk. I am sure there is not a disk in there as it still accepts and ejects other disks. If it were to be removed from the device tree would this likely solve the problem, or would the power cable to the drive have to be physically disconnected?
I was using a program which opened my console and then I noticed in my console had messages referring to a couple of programs I removed a long time ago by dragging them to the Trash. It seems to be reporting thousands of messages every minute for one of the programs with the message "User or app not found." recurring.
This must be using resources, is there any way to stop this?

What does this mean and why is it happening? Is it normal? Doesn't happen with safari, but safari has been bugging out; doesn't quit properly. I have a mid 2011 imac 21.5.
I am having trouble loading window XP pro OEM sp2 using Bootcamp on my macbook OSX 10.5.8 It gets through copying all the files and reboots successfully through to the install window and the setup program for windows (where it displays various marketing info and has dot buttons down the left hand side). It says it will take 39 mins to setup but the counter never changes and I have left it up to an hour and nothing happens although once I did get a disk error message (something about cleaning the CD - can't remember exactly). I am doing full installs and have tried FAT and NTFS. At first I thought it was because it was an OEM but it is a Microsoft OEM and other people online seem to have no problems and do not seem to get as far in the install if it is that. Is this a dud CD or version of windows or am I just doing something wrong?
Trying to install Windows XP via Boot Camp, I get this error:
I have an external hard drive with enough space to back up my computer, but I don't know what to do after that. Can someone tell me what to back it up with so I can restore it after I format my computer, and how to restore it?
I assume to format the drive I use Disk Utility from my install CD?
I have an iMac (2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo) running OS 10.5.8 purchased June of 2009. I want to install windows and run it on Bootcamp. I have been following the BootCamp installation and setup guide. During step 1 where you partition the disk I chose 32 gb for the windows partition. When I ran the partition I got a disk error message which suggested I run the disk utility. I did this, tried again, and got the same error. I did it again - no luck. Failing this, the installation guide suggested I backup all files and do a clean reinstall of the system software. I did this and the OSX software installation went smoothly. I then ran all the Apple updates. I then re-tried the disk partition and it went fine. I then followed the steps to install windows. The installation guide recommended to make sure that the full system is used, not an upgrade. The version of windows that I decided to purchase from [URL] is called Windows XP Home Edition SP3 for System Builders. Note that this is a new, legitimate version. Here's the link: [URL]
What I received was called Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition OEM software. I didn't notice the OEM designation before the installation and don't fully understand what OEM is. What gave me confidence when I chose this product was that many of reviews were from mac owners who successfully used it for bootcamp and parallels. Also discussions on this forum seem to indicate that OEM should work. Everything seem to be going smoothly in the Windows installation. I chose 32 gb partition and "FAT" (not "NTFS" or "FAT Quick") as the format for the partition. Things went bad when I got to the screen that has bullet points for the various steps of the Windows installation: Collecting Information, Dynamic Update, Preparing Installation, Installing Windows, etc. It went through the initial stages successfully until somewhere within the Installing Windows stage. At that point I got a screen with a message that said: "A problem has been detected and windows has to shut down to prevent damage to your computer." Below that it said: "Driver_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL". I haven't been able to get past this error in the installation. I checked the troubleshooting information in the Bootcamp installation guide and I noticed that it warned against using OEM software.
