How do I get rid of error 404 on my Google page when I open Safari?

I seem to be having a hell of a time with all google related things. About 50% of the time I can't get to the google search page and get the error message Safari can't open the page [URL] because Safari can't connect to the server. When I am able to get into gmail, I am constantly being disconnected from gchat, like every 5 minutes. When it disconnects, it will try to reconnect, most of the time unsuccessfully. I then get the error message, unable to reach gmail please check your internet connection. This happens no matter what browser I use. However, when I try to connect from my husband's PC (same network), everything is fine. I've tried emptying my safari cache, tried uninstalling and re-installing both safari and firefox, and I am out of ideas. Any ideas about what is going on, and how I might fix this issue. I searched through the google help, and there were similar problems posted (none recently), but no answers on how to solve the issue. This has been going on for about a week now, and it's driving me up a wall.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a mbpr with 10.9.4 Mavericks. It's been only a week since I got it and Safari just keep showing up this error in most of the sites I try to visit. Seriously it is so annoying. I try not to use other browser since Safari uses very little power from the battery.

I have a 13" Retina MacBook Pro running Mavericks., Safari suddenly will open ONLY Google-related pages (e.g., gmail and google maps). All other websites I try result in the gray page that says, "Safari can't find the server."
when I turned on my MBP, the wireless connection would not connect to my home network. That was temporary--it eventually connected to the network, but then even though it was connected to the network, it could not access the internet connection. All of that then resolved itself (I reset modem and router) and those connections resumed functionality. But then I could not access any web pages, as per my comment above, EXCEPT for Google-related pages.
Steps I have already taken in attempt to resolve:booted in safe modecleared Safari cacheRemoved all website dataunder Proxies on Preferences -> Advanced tab, selected Auto Proxy Discoveryunchecked and re-checked the Fraudulent sites warning check box on Preferences -> Security tab
Does it have something to do with the Google Safe Browsing Service? Seems so odd that ONLY Google pages will load..
I am on a macbook pro, osx 10.9.2, safari 7.0.3.
When I try opening google, yahoo, facebook and etc, it keeps coming back with "safari cannot open pages because the sever where this pages located is not responding.". But i can open it with Google Chrome that installed in the same macbook.
Also the it doesn't allow iphoto to login facebook but it works fine with flickr.

Since updating Safari recently to 5.1.5, if I choose the Mail Link to This Page command, instead of opening Mail.app with a new email with the link pasted in, it launches Google Chrome and, in Chrome, goes to the email login page for Google webmail. If I choose the Mail Contents of This Page command, I get an error message stating: "Safari can't create an email message because Google Chrome.app doesn't support sending webpages from Safari. You can use the Mail application included with Mac OS X to send webpages." Safari is set as my default browser. This behavior started immediately after the 5.1.5 update.I use these commands pretty regularly and, through many version of mail.app and Safari, there has never been a glitch. Any ideas, folks? Or is this a bug introduced by 5.1.5 or some other recent Software Update? (Software updates are completely up to date and on 10.7.3.)

I'm having a problem with Google on safari Version 5.1.5 when I open a new tab with Google as the home page I can type what I am looking for, hit enter or the search button on Google and it dose nothing. The only way I can search for something is either using the small search bar in the top right of safari, or type what I want in to Google then click on Google images then click back to the search then it will finally search for it. It has just become a bit annoying and only started doing it the other day.
View 1 Replies View RelatedThis has been happening for awhile now. No doubt due to some upgrade. When I search for a string I'll get the list of google hits. And the search string will still be right in the window where I typed it. But sometimes after going to a link, I'll come back to this page and the page will be the same, but the search string is from a previous search. This is an inconvenience as I frequently go back to edit the search. I can't seem to reproduce it at the moment.

I have notice reacently that when i search multiple times in google through the web based search box ( not the safari google bar) and then click on a link to a page, visit the page and the go back page ( via the back button on the two finger swipe) the search term is not the same the same as the last typed search cryteria but corresponds to the first search term used at the beging, thus the result page doesnt have the link to the page that was visited.

I use Google 2-step verification. With my upgrade to Yosemite, all my text messages that previously only went to my iPhone now also appear on my Macbook Pro. In general that's fine, but it's a big security problem. If anyone gets my computer then they immediately have access to all my 2-step codes because the codes will be sent to my Macbook in addition to my phone. Previously I only had to worry about one device (my phone) and but now there is a big problem with my computer falling into the wrong hands.
Is this an attempt by Apple to stop people from using Google 2-step verification?

I'm having some problems with my MacBook Pro so I'm trying to reinstall Mavericks.
I hold command+R at startup and get to the OS X Utilities.
I click "Reinstall OS X." I already tested it and I AM connected to the internet.
I click "continue" when it says it needs to verify the eligibility of my computer with Apple (it's definitely eligible).
An error message pops up. It says "An error occurred while preparing the installation. Try running this application again.
It's plugged in, I've tried restarting, I've checked the internet connection and it's working fine.
How to get this to work?

I just purchased my second mac (iMac 24" screen) which has finally made me free from windows. So one of my first things I did was put my 10 year 30,000 photo collection into iPhoto... Everything worked fine except I'm having one problem.... Apparently there were 15 files that were messed up and didn't get imported. Thats fine and no big deal, I can do without them. The problem is EVERYTIME I open iPhoto I get the error message....
Photos have been found in the iPhoto library that were not imported. Would you like to import them? This has a yes or no question.... If I say yes, iphoto will create an "album" that is empty with no photos entitled "recovered photos" and give me the error message....Unreadable FilesThe following files could not be imported (they may be an unrecognized file type or the files may not contain valid data)
If I choose NO, then iPhoto will give me this message....The photos have been placed in the folder /Users/ks72/Pictures/iPhoto Library Recovered Photos_3.
I'm find with trashing these photos and you think after iPhoto placed them in the folder it would stop but it happens EVERYTIME I open iPhoto... I found one thing online somewhere that was partially relevant and it said "go into your iphoto library and find the actual data files which might be difficult due to the naming system and delete them" but how do I go INTO the iphoto library. Everytime I go in my pictures folder and click on the iPhoto library it will just open iPhoto.... am using the latest versions of leopard and iphoto.
I bought this mac last year and decided to put a windows partition on it. I decided the partition was way too small so I erased it and made a new one. This time when I went to make a partition on my hard drive it said the beta had expired. I looked deeper into this message and some sites said to put your clock was to before September of 2007. Doing so I now get this message. Bootcamp assistant cannot open. This version of Boot Camp Assistant is not supported in Mac OS X v10.5. Use Boot Camp Assistant 2.0, located in /Applications/Utilities/. Well first I don't have a boot camp 2.0. So I downloaded the combo pack to make sure my firmware and such was up to date which it was. I still get this error message.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a Macbook (10.4). When I try to open a .jar file, I got a message like: can't open. In the Console, the error message is: Exception in thread "main" java.lang.UnsupportedClassVersionError: Bad version number in .class file
I googled it and it seem that something is missing from my OS, since the .jar file has been "compiled" with something that I don't have (??). Software update is ok, and on the terminal (don't ask me how I arrived there):
java version "1.5.0_13"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.5.0_13-b05-241)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.5.0_13-121, mixed mode, sharing)
I was installing a few things on my new MacBook Pro (XCode, XQuartz, X11, and Homebrew) when I noticed some funky error message that I get whenever I open Terminal.
It says: -bash: export: `/usr/local/sbin:/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/opt/X11/bin': not a valid identifier.
I am still getting used to my Mac after a decade of Windows, and I have no clue what this error means or how to fix it.

I've had PithHelmet installed on the older version of Safari, but since I've updated to 4.0 it no longer works. So I've tried to uninstall PithHelmet from my Mac by deleting the "PithHelmet" folder located in /Library/Application Supports/, but nothing seems to happen - I still get this pop-up message whenever I launch Safari. I have tried re-installing Safari but I get the same problems!
