OS X Mavericks :: Editing Calendar Attachments Does Not Update Original File
Sep 2, 2014
I am trying to attach assignments for school onto my calendar on my mac. It seems like the attachment is saved to a separate folder, so if I edit it, it will not change the original file. Is there a way to make the calder attachment the same as the original file?

I'm working on a school project in my intro to computer programming class on my new MacBook Pro. I'm using TextEdit, and I can't seem to create the right kind of file. When I save the file as an .html file I can open in a browser as text, but I can no longer open in TextEdit as the original code to edit it.

I have mails with an invitation for a meeting, coming from ms outlook, in format .ics.
When I double click on it, i do not see it in my calendar - neither to accept or refuse.
(I once answered a question, sth like - isdbox need access to .. - not 100%sure about the correct question, i answered "no", but i think it should have been "yes")
Since then i can not see invitations anymore coming from an .ics file.

When I hide a Google calendar from the calendar list online, the calendar continues to show up on Mac OS X Mavericks Calendar. How can I get that calendar to not show up in Apple's Calendar without completely deleting it from my Google account?

I had to move around data and now I have a ton of aliases to fix. I know you can fix an alias by doing "get info" and find original but the window that opens hides the original path and can't be moved. Further more I'd simply need to edit out the first part of the "original" location. I thought opening an alias in textedit would allow me to do that easily but it's unreadable. how I could fix these quickly instead of browsing deep in folder structure to find them again?

ok trying not to get a panic attack here. I downloaded espionge to encrypt my valuable files and while it was encrypting (AES 128 bit i think) the program froze and I had to Force quit it. Now I try to open my file (that i was trying to encrypt) and it looks f*^&# up. I can't open it, and when I tried to unmount the partially encrypted file, espionage gave me errors that it couldnt recover the original file.
I had basically all my life's valuable accumulated data in that folder (it was 10 Gb+). I will praise anyone to the end of my days that can somehow tell me how to restore my file to its original state. Usefull info:
1) AM planning to pay gazillions for recovery software if need be, but free alternatives are always better.
2) I never secure delete if that helps
3) I still have the .sparseimage for the file created by espionage. (P.S. sparseimage's size looks really close to the orignal, also 10 Gb +).
4) Newest version of OSX, and have an IMac.
5) after incident I haven't done anything (no installations or downloads) apart from writing this.
6) the encrypted file was gonna be in HFS+ i think

I have a PDF file that I know has attachments in it, but when I open the PDF file with Preview the attachments do not show up, nor does it even seem possible to view them (I know they are there because I can see them using Windows Foxit PDF reader). Does anyone know if this is possible with Preview or will I have to get the Adobe Reader? I dread getting anything adobe because on Windows computers their software is so bloated and a resource hog.

Using Apple Mail on OS X 10.9.
My workplace is an Apple environment. Shortly after some of the iMacs were upgraded to 10.9 we've had some trouble with Mail. The main issue is Mail is not sending the attached image or file. On one of the iMacs that sends a lot of email with attachments, I removed the email account and added it back. After doing this this account is able to send attachments (how long this fix will last I don't know), however, a particular email we tried to send did not send the attached files.
After hearing about this issue I sent several test emails from this iMac and had mixed results. Sending just the attachments would work. Sending the attachments and text would only send the text. I have tried dragging the images from the Desktop into the message. I have used the attachment button and made sure Windows Friendly Attachments was checked.
I hand-typed a paragraph of the original email and sent it with the attachments and that email worked. I think it could be something with copy and pasting the text or some kind of formatting in the text. I copied the original message and pasted it in both Text Edit and Microsoft Word (and used Edit>Clear Formatting) and from there into a new Mail Message, attached the two files and it didn't send again.
One attachment is a .jpg another is a .pdf. The total size of both is 104kb (well within our sending limit). The body of the message is 3-4 paragraphs, maybe 100-200 words total. I don't think it is a size issue.
This could possibly be two issues, or just one: Mail just not sending attachments (even though it seems to have been corrected after removing the email account and adding it back), an issue with formatting that is somehow keeping Mail from sending attachments, or a mixture of both.
On a side note, I added the same email account to another computer using 10.7.5 and added the correct imap and smtp info and the same issues and results happen with this specific email. (Other than this one email issue in 10.7.5 the only complaints about emails not sending attachments is coming from 10.9 users)
I'm at a loss right now of what to try next. Since some of the iMacs have upgraded to 10.9, Apple Mail has been giving us some issues.

I have a ton of job applications to fill out and hopefully turn them all in tomorrow. I have so many job apps, but rather than filling them all out by hand I'd much rather type the info into the PDF file directly and then print them out, ready to go. What's the best way to do this? I started out downloading Adobe Reader, later realizing there is a difference between Reader and Adobe Acrobat. Then after searching for a while I noticed the trial version of Acrobat I downloaded from Adobe's site is for Windows only; discovering Acrobat for Mac only went up to version 8.
There are no free trial downloads of version 8 for mac out there. I'd really hate to have to print out over 70 sheets of paper and fill them out one by one, box by box. Will "Preview" allow me to edit and add text on each job application? I'll respond quickly, as i'm looking for a solid solution on the matter. The only thing I've found, though don't really like it is uploading the PDF file online to a specific website and editing it there, text box by text box...seems, a bit of a hassle.

How can I set this up?

I am a total Mac dummy but our owners daughter came in with her Macbook and said that no one can receive her attachments because they always get changed to DAT files. This happens if she uses both GMAIL and YAHOO mail (via safari). I can easily rename the file back to DOC or DOCX on my end but most of her friends and co-workers will not want to do that.

I just realized my Archive.mbox (~/Library/Mail/V2/Mailboxes) is quite big (8.5GB) and I decided to remove old mails with large attachments.
As I use GMail account via POP3, first I removed mails from the Google account and I freed up about 1.5GB extra space. Later, I searched for mails with attachments in Mail.app, then sorted then and started to remove and emptied the trash. This operation was quite weird as some of them where moved to the Trash folder, some not. As I was controlling the space of the Mailboxes folder this is what I noticed:
- Archive.mbox - the size of the mbox didn't change.
- Deleted Messages.mbox increases while removing another mails then decreased while wiping it out (this is what I expected).
I removed a lot of mails and didn't free up ANY space! Also, while googling I found out about "Mail Downloads" folder which is moved from Library to ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail/Data/Library/Mail Downloads. As I set "Remove unedited downloads" to "When Mail Quits" can I simply remove all subdirs from this dictionary to save some space? This folder is only used for copy of attachments, right?

Is there a way to view the attached files with their names ? Not open I mean. Sometimes customers find it difficult to save the images I have attached to an email so I would prefer if they could see the names. Like normal files with their titles.

Just bought a new Mac Pro running Mavericks. Migrated my life from my old Mac Pro (early 2008) running Mountain Lion. That's a whole other story, but my problem now is that Mail does not delete attachments when I reply to a message that contained the attachments. This is new to me, so I wasn't aware of it until I started getting nasty messages from my Internet provider telling me that I had exceeded the maximum allowable message size. When a client sent me a 10MB document to review and edit, I would reply and attach the edited document to the reply, not knowing that the original 10MB file was still there (down at the bottom of a sometimes lengthy message).
The old attachment can be manually deleted in the Message tab, but I can't find anything in Preferences or anywhere else that allows me to turn that feature off forever.

Every time I try to browse my Mac either from Safari or Firefox or when trying to attach a file with Mail browsing a file (dragging and dropping it in the new message works fine) it freezes the program up and the only way to get out of the process is to force the exit.
I tryed to read around for any solution but I couldn't solve it yet. In other words, I cannot upload files to internet since when i look at what I have on the Mac the program get stuck and the colored ball keeps turning forever...
I'm using OS10.9.3 and everything is up to date as far as software.

For some reason, most (not all) of the songs in my iTunes have an exclamation mark beside them that says "The song [song title] could not be used because the original file could not be found. Would you like to locate it?"
1) I dropped my computer a week or so ago. At the time it seemed fine with the exception of a small clicking sound from inside the computer.
2) Somone told me that the clicking sound might be because of a harddrive failure (or from a problem with the fan or optical drive). SO I started using Google Drive to backup some of my files, so far however it's only backuped up some of my music (maybe this is why only some of my music works)
3) Whenever I restart my computer now, my trash can becomes full of "Recovered Files". I think I might have deleted these the first few times I saw them.
