My mail.app just began not working this morning. It opens, it begins to load messages, i click on "All Mail" (using gmail imap), and then eventually I get the "wheel of death"... spins and spins i force quit eventually, reopen and same thing. How do i fix my mail.app?
View 2 RepliesMy mail application has started to open at start up of the computer. I seems to have happened at the same time as I installed Avast anti virus trial. But I am not sure if it happened at exactly the same time. I have checked the log in items in accounts and mail is one of them.

Ever since that sate this application just hangs now and it drains all my bandwidth (i don't appear to be getting any mail) so i have to shut it down. Is there any way of resetting it in effect.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI thought this best belonged in OS X Lion discussions even though Mail is affected. I think it may be OS related as the same thing ins happening with my Keychain app.
Basically when I open Mail or Keychain Access the app hangs for a long time - about 2-3 minutes before becoming responsive.
Mail is not as bad as Keychain. Mail is pretty much fine after the initial delay but Keychain hangs pretty much every time i try to navigate the UI making it unusable.

Upgraded the software on my MacBook Mid 2009 to OS X Lion 10.7.2 and since then experiencing problems with the computer hanging whilst in the middle of something, generally Mail. Can this MacBook support this upgraded software? This problem didn't happen before the upgrade.

Each time I have my MacBook Pro up and running, with my Apple Mail app running and I connect via FaceTime to someone, the mail program starts making tons of nosie as if it's sending and receiving mail over and over and over and over again. I have a 2/2011 MBP 15" maxed out.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have an early 2011 MacBook Pro running OS Lion (10.7.3) and in the last two weeks I face the following problem with the Mail application and my Yahoo mail account: although the account appears in the side bar of the application and it will search for new messages when I launch the Mail app, it doesn't load any messages and I also realised that all Mailboxes of the named account are blank! The messages appear normally when I reach my account through the Yahoo page! I tried to remove and re-import the account in the Mail app, but it just worked for two days and now the Mailboxes are blank again! I have no problems with the other two mail accounts I reach through the same application (both POP accounts).

I am trying to set Apple Mail as my default mail application, but invariably, when I try to send an email from another program, it opens Outlook instead.
How can I make Mail the default mail application for my entire system?
I use gmail and have 288 messages to upload, but it gets stuck at email 20. Have gone to gmail.com to delete # 20 email, but the application is still getting stuck. It's also duplicating messages on Mail application.

View 5 Replies View RelatedThis is very likey a simple fix, so I appreciate your help in advance and your bearing with me. On my iMac (10.5.8) I use mail.app to read my gmail account. On my Dell netbook (Windows 7) I use Outlook. Pretty standard stuff. But when one app downloads the message from the server, the other app doesn't. This is a major problem because I need to consolidate my emails all the time. Outlook has "Leave a copy on the server" checked and mail.app has "Delete from server" unchecked. Other than this, the gmail account functions perfectly in both apps.

View 8 Replies View RelatedEver since I upgraded to Leopard over a year ago, my Mail.app has been pretty buggy. my mail.app is currently set up to connect to my university IMAP server with SSL and password authentication. Before I upgraded from Tiger to Leopard, mail would always retrieve any new mail on the IMAP server every minute and any time I press get mail. Ever since I upgraded however, the get mail function hasn't worked exactly as it should.
Sometimes get mail would work, sometimes it won't, and sometimes it takes a long time for my computer to automatically retrieve new e-mails. The weird thing is, connection doctor shows no connection abnormality, and if get mail doesn't work, I can get it to work again if I quit and reopen mail, which is always a pain. Mail on my iPhone works perfectly (syncs to my MBP), and I have already tried deleting mail.app, reinstalling from my Leopard DVD and basically resetting all settings.
It's on the top of my list right now. I tried closing it and restarting it and it still have a high memory count. It's higher then my firefox which has 30 tabs opened. Anyone know of it's designed this way? or I have too many RSS feeds? I only have 5 RSS with 1 Gmail IMAP account on it.

I occasionally click links such as "contact us" in websites that I expect to take me to something that shows an email address, but instead they automatically make my mail application open up, and that's just annoying as ****.
I know I can command+click to copy the email address. I don't need this alternate solution/not really a solution to this problem.
Preferences in the application is unavailable, I assume until I choose an account to add as it prompts me to do upon opening.
So how can I make it so that mail never opens just because I click an address?

I get the following message when I'm in Safari and select "File>Mail Contents of This Page" or "Mail Link to This Page" even though I have Apples Mail programmed installed and use it all the time as my primary email client. I don't see any preferences in Safari where I have to make a selection for these menus options to work and they have worked in the past. They have just inexplicably stopped working.

The desktop has my mail files, and sometimes I'd like to read them from the laptop. The laptop can log into the desktop over my wireless home network and I can run the copy of mail.app that's on the desktop.
