I, like many, am anxiously awaiting my new iMac (3.06, 4850). I just ordered tuesday but i noticed something on my order details online that i dont know what it means. yesterday when i checked the details of my order, under imac 24", it said custom configuration, then you could click it to see the specs. today it says imac 24'/SD and there is no "custom configuration" under it. whats goin on, im not freakin out but curious as to why this change occured. anyone else ever notice this or know what it means? i cant remember whether the /SD was always there or not either.

After updates on my iMac OS X 10.6.8 .mov files shot with the JVC HD200 will no longer play! Everything was fine before the updates. I keep getting the error message: invalid public movie atom. I was told it may have been from the iTunes update so I deleted iTunes and both versions of quicktime that I have and reinstalled earlier versions. Still no luck.

iMac, Mac OS X (10.6.8)

I have a bunch of macs in the house. I am trying to install Leopard on a 17" G5 imac but I can't get it to boot off my Leopard install CD (a dual-layer backup copy as the original cannot be located at the moment). The disk will mount under tiger, but will not boot, either from the internal DVD or an external drive.
Is there any good trick to do the install? I did an install onto an external USB drive that booted an intel iMac but that drive wouldn't boot the G5. Anyone have any tricks? I've never done target disk mode and don't think I have a firewire cable, but could get one if needed.

I recently was given an 15 inch iMac G4 with 256 MB RAM and 800 MHz processor and was running OS X 10.3.9. I upgraded the RAM to 512 MB and installed Leopard using a firewire connection with my MacBook. I can boot from the MacBook Leopard but the iMac will not boot or seem to find the Hard Drive. I can see the Hard Drive on my MacBook with Leopard installed on it. All I get on my iMac is a "finder" with a question mark. Is there any suggestions or tips about how I can get my iMac to run properly using Leopard?

I just installed Leopard on my iMac PPC G5. It calls for a shut down at the end of installation which it did. Now it won't power back on. Every time it gets to the starting chime, it shuts down. It was running fine before the installation of Leopard and now it's basically dead. I can't even get the disk out of the drive now and I'd like to. Is there a way to get it out?

ive got a Imac 17inch 1.0ghz with 215mb ddr ram. anyways, as Sheepy suggested, i upgraded her to a nice speedy 500GB 7200 Sata drive and dropped 1.5gb ram into her...... but lets take a step back. when i got her, she was full of dust and had tiger on her.. no dramas, tiger is good. anyways, i wanted to do a reinstall of tiger, and so grabbed my tiger retail disk and started her up, no dramas there either, ran disk util, repartitioned (the old disk) and started to install. the install never finished and then it just rebooted after about 80% through... The reboot came to the disk flashing with the osx face and a question mark. I try a few more times, with the same result, and also with Leopard, also with the same result, but the leopard install actually tells me after about 80% that "Install failed" try again? anyways, so i think its a shagged optical drive. i have a few lying around and i need to get in there anyways to upgrade the hard drive. installing the HD and the new Optical drive went fine, all works well.. and while i was there also installed 500mb ddr400 stick in the main memory non user slot. close her up, checked the heatsink matchup spots and there dry as a nuns nasty.. theres no paste on them, but kinda like a pad.. (which isnt even sticky either) anyways, i stick em back together (without) cleaning the pad stuff nor with applying any paste and boot her up. I insert the leopard disk to istall and it all goes fine, i re-partition the newspeedy 7200rpm sata disk and start the install. and again.... gets to about 90% and reboots. flashing smily face with alternating question mark.

I just got my brand new 2.66ghz iMac in the mail. Wondering whether it is worth installing snow leopard before I painfully switch everything from my old computer to this one. I don't want to have to redo my entire system later.

Can i install snow leopard straight to a firewire drive?
If so what is the best way to do this? i don't want to just clone the internal drive to the firewire drive, i want a clean install to play with.

Now, my poor little G4 was just standing there. After a lot of fumbling around, restores, it finally has regained life, running Tiger etc.
Now, I wanted to install Leopard, see for myself what I would prefer, and it would allow to tether wireless internet connection through my iPhone to the G4. But I need Leopard for that, Tiger is too old.
So, after Googling, I found out that if I put my Intel into Target Disk mode, I could use it as external DVD reader, seeing my G4's reader is dead as dead can be.

I have a 1Ghz PowerPC G4 iMac and want to delete everything and start again with Leopard. (it seems to be within the system reqs.) Problem is the DVD drive isn't functioning properly. It sees the OSX DVD but won't boot from it. Question - What's the best alternative method? Create a boot firewire disk?

I have a tower Mac Pro with Snow Leopard running on it.Unfortunately one of the software that I use doesn't have yet a Snow Leopard update. So I am thinking maybe I can install older version of Leopard on one of the internal drives (i have 3 additional internal drives), so I can boot my computer from either Leopard or Snow Leopard, depending on needs (i don't want to get rid of Snow Leopard).
I never installed OS X system before, so I am a bit scared. The internal drive is ready, I have the old Leopard on disks, what are the next steps to take?

So my entire iTunes library (about 200 GB) is on an external HD.
After I installed Leopard it's showing as Read Only. There is not option for permissions and in Disk Utility all I can do is verify the disk.
Obviously I can't delete or add files or do anything but read them.

I am trying to view some ebooks @ netlibrary, but the files are .dll. I did a little research but couldn't find much. Everything I did find stated that that file type was Windows specific. The threads I Googled were pretty old though. Is there anyway I can open these files in Leopard?

I'm trying to install Mac OS X Snow Leopard on to my macbook but I keep getting this error.
"mac os x installation couldn't be completed" I get this message usually within 5 minutes of installation.
My macbook specs are...
Mac OS X Version 10.5.8, 2.16 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 1 GB 667 Mhz DDR2 SDRAM
I've already tried repairing the disks. (I repaired my leopard with the snow leopard CD because I couldn't find the leopard CD.
I heard it was fine to do.) I would have tried to verify and repair the partition but the buttons seemed to be grayed out for some reason.
Here is the error log...

I just bought a windows dvd game of Toca 3, and my iMac superdrive won't load it. The drive will try and spin up, make a groaning noise a couple of times, then eject the disk. I have tried the same disk in a friends MacBook Pro, and 2 friends PCs and there drives read the disk perfectly. I have tried the disk in both windows and mac, and neither will read the disk. I have also tried cleaning the disk. My iMac is a 2.4ghz Aluminium 20incher... any help would be much appreciated, as i am currently having to use my friends MacBook Pro (unibody) to play the game and he is getting a little anoyed!!
