OS X :: Installing Snow Leopard On Second Partition?

Aug 28, 2009

I've read it is possible to partition your hard drive so you can have leopard and snow leopard installed at the same time on one computer, correct? Can I partition my current drive without having to reinstall leopard? or lose any data? I will of course have a back up but is it possible to create another partition if I have room while keeping my leopard install intact? If later I decide I love (or hate) snow leopard can I get rid of the other partition and expand one of the partitions to take up the entire hard drive (like how I have it now) again without reinstalling or losing data? (on the partition I intend to keep not the one i get rid of obviously)

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Can't Boot From Snow Leopard Partition

Feb 12, 2012

I have a Macbook Pro from 2008. It previously just had one partition, with Lion on it.

I created a new partition for Snow Leopard

I installed Snow leopard from a retail disk on the second partition. The installation went fine, and I got the message at the end that the installation was successful, and to restart the computer.

When I restart it, it just goes to the gray Apple screen, with the spinning gear, and never gets farther than that. The gear is spinning.

I can still boot successfully into Lion. Once I booted into Lion, I chose the Snow Leopard partition as the Startup Disk, but the same thing happens - just the gray Apple screen and spinning gear. I've let the machine sit for half an hour in that state, but it still does nothing but the spinning gear.

why I can't boot successfully into Snow Leopard and how I can fix it?

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Re-installing ILife From Snow Leopard

Feb 22, 2012

I have a MacBook Pro (Early 2011), which had Snow Leopard on it and came with iLife installed. I've installed Lion onto this machine (initially from the app store, but I had to re-format and re-install). My question is: How do I get iLife back onto Lion?

I've looked in the app store, however on iPhoto, iMovie and Garage Band the button doesn't say "Install", but rather "Accept". Pressing this prompts me to put in my password, and then says "Future versions of this app can be downloaded from software update." However, software update has no new updates. How do I get these back?

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Installing Snow Leopard On External HD?

Apr 26, 2012

I am currently running Lion on my Mac Mini, I have an external drive onto which I want to install Snow Leopard so that i can play some older Mac games I have which do not work under Lion. I insert the Snow Leopard CD, restart the Mac whilst holding down the option key and boot from the Snow Leopard CD, hoping to then select the external HD for Snow Leopard installation. The Mac starts up, I can hear the Snow Leopard CD being accessed, however, after about a minute or so, a screen comes up saying that I have to shut down the Mac by holding the power button, so obviously the Mac will not continue to boot from the Snow Leopard CD. Is this because I am running Lion on the Mac or is there a problem with the Snow Leopard CD. If it is because the Mac is running on Lion, how can I install Snow Leopard to the external HD. I am using the Newer Technology USB 3 Universal Drive Adapter to connect the external HD to my Mac, the Mac sees the external HD no probs and I can format the external HD etc., so that side seems to be OK.

IMac :: Installing New HDD - What Is The Best Way To Copy A Boot Camp Partition To Hdd

Jan 9, 2011

I want to replace the hard drive in my iMac (2009 i5 model) but I'm not sure how I can copy my Boot Camp partition over. I had a difficult time trying to installing Windows 7 on my computer the first time I did it, I had to slip in extra drivers and remove ram sticks and stuff like that but once I got it running it has ran fine without any problems. I skimmed through the SSD upgrade thread looking for info but I didn't see anything that jumped out at me. When I google'd the issue, almost all of the info I found was from 2009 and older. So, what is the best way to copy a Boot Camp partition to a new hard disk?

IMac :: Fail At Installing Bootcamp / Won't Create Partition

Dec 12, 2009

Okay this i7 iMac is barely a few weeks old and I went today to setup bootcamp and during the partition creation, I get this error:

The disk cannot be partitioned because some files cannot be moved.

Er...WHAT? I don't even know what to do about that one, but it sounds suspiciously like I have to completely redo my Mac which is not going to make for a good Saturday.

Any hints on what in the world would cause this? I haven't even barely used this machine to begin with.

Networking Between Lion MBA And Snow Leopard IMac

Jun 6, 2012

Proud to announce we are about to become a 2x Mac computer household (not including 2x iPod classics and 2x iPhone4s!)This has got me thinking about how to 'network' my new MacBook air with my existing iMac.This is what I am trying to do:

Computer 1 - 2006 iMac Core2Duo 20" 3GB RAM running Snow Leopard 500Gb HDD, not far off full.

Computer 2 - 2011 MacBook Air 13" i5 4GB 256GB SSD, running Lion

1. Due to the smaller HDD on the MBA, I am thinking it would be nice if the MBA iPhoto could 'see' and store a local copy of for example the last 20 events in the 'main' iPhoto on the iMac. Alternativly, all events from 2012. I can't use iCloud on the iMac because I don't want to update the iMac to Lion (won't bore you with why). Managed to get OTA syning of iCal via iCloud using IMAP just last week which was my only really driver for getting Lion on the iMac.

2. My whole music library is 55Gb so again, this is too much space to take up of the 256GB. Clearly I have the iPod classic 120GB which I would generally have with me, but it might be nice to have a 'selection' of music from the iTunes library on the MBA. Is there a way the MBA can network to the iMac iTunes library and take for example a few auto-playlists? I use Dropbox, and I now have access to Google Drive which should cover my needs to sharing documents. I guess I could put 5GB of music on Google Drive, and point the MBA itunes library to that. Although won't this mean I have to double account for the 5GB worth of music on the iMac (5GB in itunes library, 5GB in local copy of Google drive).

Software :: Installing Old Leopard Alternate Boot With Snow Leopard

Oct 17, 2009

I have a tower Mac Pro with Snow Leopard running on it.Unfortunately one of the software that I use doesn't have yet a Snow Leopard update. So I am thinking maybe I can install older version of Leopard on one of the internal drives (i have 3 additional internal drives), so I can boot my computer from either Leopard or Snow Leopard, depending on needs (i don't want to get rid of Snow Leopard).

I never installed OS X system before, so I am a bit scared. The internal drive is ready, I have the old Leopard on disks, what are the next steps to take?

Intel Mac :: Upgrading From 10.5.8 To Snow Leopard & Lion?

Apr 13, 2012

Currently I have an iMac 10.5.8 with an Intel Core 2 Duo and 2Go Ram. Since January I didn't had much system updates because my software is apparently too old ... And I am kind of paranoid about the Trojans that I might have because I use the old version plus Safari is getting blocked very often. So I decided to by first Snow Leopard and then Lion. The thing is that I live in Norway & I will have to use the Norwegian apple store to by those programs but my OS X is in French. So I was wondering if I will be able to choose my language or the whole system will be automatically in Norwegian? The second question is to know if it is difficult to upgrade? I am a Mac user because I don't have any clues about the computers and Mac is always working. I read some complaints from people who after installing Snow Leopard couldn't use properly their printers or other apps... Is there is something I (completely ignorant person) should be aware of before doing the upgrade?
