I have installed VMFusion Ware and then Windows XP. When I insert the CD to install Microsoft Office, nothing happens... I'm a very new MacBook Pro user and LOVE it but I need to use some Microsoft products for work.
View 3 RepliesI'm switching over to a MBP in a couple weeks after being a lifetime user of a Windows-based computer. I am an engineer and for the foreseeable future will be using a Windows-based computer, namely the Microsoft Office Suite. This might be a lame, but one of my biggest concerns is the transitioning process that I would have to go through to learn the new Mac Excel 2011. I know exactly where everything is the Windows version, but spent more time than I thought I would have to when I went to visit the Apple Store and played around with Mac's version of Excel.
The Microsoft-Apple designers definitely didn't have strict limitations on making the two versions to be close copies, in terms of table structures. In theory, I would like to use Window's Office 2010 on my new MBP instead of Mac Office 2011. However, I'm interested in hearing advice on why this might be a good or bad idea. Is there anybody else that chooses to do this, or are there gains by using Mac's Office software exclusively that I haven't considered.
I had to replace a dead hard drive on my old 2007 iMac. Now I am unable to install Office 2011 on an iMac that had this version of office before the old HD died. I know there are restrictions on the number of installations. Must I purchase Office 2011 again or is there another legal option?

I have a new Macbook Pro. I installed Windows 7 Ultimate and Microsoft Office Pro with Bootcamp. I run these with Parallels desktop. Since I am using Parallels, 7, and Office, do I need an antivirus? If yes, which is the best route to go?

I searched for a while trying to find the answer but did not find it. I just installed Vista Business via Bootcamp. I am not able to access the internet or anything. If I read the help stuff right I need to use the OSX install disk to install the drivers. The problem is, I don't have the install disk. Is there any other way to get the drivers? Or am I just missing something easier?

Does it let you run applications for windows transparently through the MAC OS? As in, I insert the installation disk for office 2007, the setup menu comes up, I install it, and I get to put the word icons on the dock, I can open word/excel/whatever and just runt he applications without having to boot in to some sort of an emulation mode or whatever?

A while back there was a thread on Archive and install " Cant find it on a search " but anyways. I'd like to do a clean install of the OS and bring over the applications needed, WHY? to me the system seems to be getting bogged down , mite be me also. Question is, is that I have dual boot installed to windows for gaming. Is the new install going to hose that? and would I have to reinstall bootcamp and the whole windows thing again? I was also thinking maybe some program that would go through and clean out old unnecessary files, but that's the old windows in me coming out from years past.

I use Microsoft Word, Excel and sometimes, Power Point quite often at college. They have PCs of course... and I have an iMac. And I wanted to get Microsoft Office at home.
Now, I was looking on the web for different prices and all that. I wasn't sure between buying Windows XP (because I work with XP at college, not Vista) and downloading Bootcamp, or Microsoft Office for Mac. Also, I wasn't sure if the Mac version was similar to the one for Windows... and also if I could transfer files from the PC to Mac versions without problems.
Basically, money wise, if I buy one or the other, there isn't too much of a difference. But I haven't looked everywhere for the best prices available, although I'm guessing it's pretty much the same most places (internet).
I was at an Apple Store this weekend and playing around with the new MBA. I noticed that they had MS Office 2011 installed already. I checked out the version number and it's 14.0.1, build 101008. Anybody knows if this version is just Apple store, or it'll be an update?
View 3 Replies View RelatedInstalled a new 750GB drive into my MacBookPro 5.1 Couldn't get Winclone to make image so I was forced to start from scratch with a new XP installation.
My MBP is partitioned 25%Mac & 75%XP with bootcamp and I have the old drive in a enclosure connected with a firewire. So all of old files are on the external drive now.
After installing XP I have no internet connection, drivers etc... However if I boot up on the mac side everything works fine. (I cloned the mac os already with Carbon copy).
So can I just copy all my old drivers over to the new drive? If yes how and if no how do I get them installed on the new harddrive. The MBP came with everything preinstalled.
Not talking about giving it away or selling it to another person or anything like that. I'm just hoping to install Office on my (upcoming) desktop setup as well as on my Macbook so that I always have access to it. This would be the full version, not the educational one.

I got the Agua version and I'm on the newest version of Snow Leopard. I would post a screen shot if I knew how to. But when I open OpenOffice in Applications you get the start screen where you usually get to choose between the different programs. First of all on the text "Welcome to openoffice", the bottom half of "Welcome to" is missing. And then all the icons below are kind of stacked onto each other so you can only access some of them and its impossible to see what the icons does, cause the text for them also run into each other.

Free download". Then I download the file and when I try to install it says tha Quick time 7 cannot be installed because QuickTime X is already present.

So I'm wondering what people think about it and why does it get such a bland reputation? Also, do people use a combination of the above? Such as iWork and Office:Windows? Both Offices? I do mainly word processing, some soft Excel work (no hardcore giant spreadsheets...yet), and general PowerPoints for presentations. I have access to cheap iWork/Offices (school discount) and a family pack of the top-level edition of Office:PC (family) so it isn't a big deal to get any of the above.
Lastly, what's the difference between Camino and Firefox? I use Firefox currently and love it, mainly due to the add-ons (weather at the bottom, Gmail alert, skins, page views, other customizations). Tabs seem to be on all browsers these days, so are there any other key differences?
As a switcher-in-waiting it would know if VMFusion, or Parallels for that matter, releases the RAM allocated to it back to OS-X when it is shut down and not in use?

I know if I bootcamp, I cant access the raid...but can you via VM?
I tryed to install windows xp on my mac and my disk was too scratched so the install failed. So i held down the power button on my mac until it turned off. Big mistake. Now whenever it boot up, it says press any button to boot from cd. I tryed installing rEFit, it installs but doesn'ty boot into the boot loader.

Allow Microsoft(whatever).app to use this font? show in finder, don't allow, allow. happens with all Office apps, runs through entire font library. about 3 months ago this started - not sure what I did to kick it off, but now whenever I try to use a Microsoft Office for Mac 2011 app it runs through the series of fonts and asks me to do something. I can go through one at a time and select 'don't ask me again' and 'allow' or 'don't allow' but I'd rather figure out (and solve) the problem.

Trying to get my boss to agree to let me have a MBP. I will have to run Windows for access to Access and I just wondered if anyone could recommend which way to go: VMFusion or Parallels? Or perhaps Boot Camp.... although I would prefer, ideally, to have both Win and OX running at the same time, rather than having to choose at boot-up.
