Hardware :: MacBook Speaker Volume Increasing?

Jul 2, 2006

I know the issue of the MacBook speaker volume have been discussed elsewhere, but I was wondering if there are any system hacks/applications that can increase the maximum volume?

I don't really use the internal speakers for anything other than system sounds and listening to web-content -- flash videos, youtube, etc. (In other words, if I want to listen to iTunes or a DVD, I'll use headphones or eternal speakers).

The max volume is just *barely* loud enough unless there is absolutely no ambient sound in the room...

OS X :: Setting The Default Headphone Volume Level?

Nov 19, 2008

I normally have my MBP on full (or mostly full) volume, but when I plug in headphones, I drop it down to the absolute lowest (or one up from that) level. Anything higher than that is deafening with my headphones. Normally my MBP automatically dropped it down to about that level whenever I plugged in headphones, but recently its only been dropping it down to the halfway point. This causes momentary deafness as I hit play on my iTunes, forgetting its only halfway down, and additional deafness from the clicking as I frantically hit Fn-F4 to lower the volume. Is there a way I can set the default level that OS X drops the volume to when I plug in my headphones?

MacBook Pro :: Setting Initial Volume Level For Headphones?

Jul 9, 2010

The volume level for the built-in speakers is remembered across boots, but it is not remembered for headphones.

I.e. Whenever I plug in the headphones after a boot, the volume level sets itself to 50% - too loud for my ears and possibly damaging to the headphones.

Anybody know of a way to change this behavior? - To set an initial volume level for headphones?

I have OSX 10.5.6.

Is there a way to detect the current volume level using a similar command and a way to assign it to a variable? And just for good measure, are there similar commands for detecting and setting the current balance?

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Why Is Time Machine Backups Volume Number Increasing

Jun 26, 2012

My TM backups seem to be proceeding normally on my MBP (which is only sometimes connected to its Time Capsule), but spotlight takes about an hour to index my backup volume each time. Looking at my system.log, I notice that the TM backup volume number is increasing by one each time:

[code]...

and so on. Is it normal that the volume name increments each time like this? Could this be related to the long indexing time, which just started recently?

Applications :: Control ITunes Volume (not System Volume) From Apple Aluminum Keyboard?

Oct 20, 2009

I have a Mac Pro and not too long ago I swapped from a fat, heavy and filthy white Apple Keyboard to a new skinny silver one. I like it, and also love that the F7-9 Skip Back-Pause/Play-Skip Forward keys work for iTunes, even when another app is active (what's the word I'm looking for - in focus or whatever). But I use Optical output, so the volume keys (F10-12) don't do anything. I know that, when iTunes is the active app, I can command-+/- to change the volume, but I'd love to be able to map the F10-12 keys to do that - without having to have iTunes active (playing, but not the active window).

OS X :: Volume Opens The Window For Expose And Does Not Control Volume Monitor Brightness?

Mar 9, 2010

Recently, my newer (last year) iMac probably running 10.5 started speaking and wont shut up... there is no obvious way to turn it off. I usually figure problems out myself but there are no system preferences that effect it. I even changed the voice in preferences as a test and it is still the same guy reading everything clicked in all applications except when I am in system preferences so far. Usually when I run into a dead end like this there is some mystery key command that works... anyone know?I also noticed that some of the top line (f) keys are not doing what they are supposed to any longer as well... volume up opens the window for expose & spaces it looks like and does not control the volume monitor brightness controls are not working either... I went to the key and mouse preferences and set the key strokes to default and still the same.

OS X :: New HD Not Showing Up In Disk Utility - This Volume Is The Startup Volume And Cannot Be Erased

Aug 10, 2009

I have my imac apart right now and replaced the internal HD as it was not working. I assume the problem is the new one is not formatted with OSX, so from the INSTALL CD I opened the disk utility and see only one drive called "MEDIA".? Or is that just part of the install dvd that looks like a HD? In the system it shows as not formatted, 0 bytes. When selected in Partition it says :

"This voume is the startup volume and cannot be erased. Size 7.1 GB The disk is not writable and cannot be partitioned"

So i guess thats not my new HD I am seeing? Other than that there is only the two OSX install CD icons.

Mac Pro :: How Loud Are The New Machines In General

Mar 15, 2009

how loud are the new machines in general? How much louder do they get under load? How much of the noise is contributed by the graphics card? How do they compare to the 2008 MacPro or to the PowerMac G5?Many questions, I know. I have a G5 Quad 2.5 at the moment, at it is rather loud, especially under load. Back then, I bought it with a better graphics card (7800) and exchanged the graphics card fan with a quieter fan from Zalman. This eliminated the annoying, high-pitched sound, but the complete machine is still very audible.

NVidia GeForce GT120 256mb memory

it would be very annoying to have to reformat.

Also if i do have to reformat can i leave windows intact?

OS X Mavericks :: Restore Volume Of Third Partition To Macintosh HD Volume

Aug 23, 2014

I recently decided to increase the volume of my bootcamp disk, which I had done in the past using a method which ultimately made the disk unrecognizable. This time around I used Winclone to create an image of my bootcamp disk. I was not sure exactly how Winclone worked and to be safe I decided to keep the Bootcamp disk I had, and I created a third partition of a larger volume to which I restored the bootcamp image. Everything worked fine obviously, and the image was restored correctly to the new larger volume. The dilemma is I had two bootcamp disks, so I erased the smaller volume because I no longer needed it. Currently I am trying to restore this empty space within the main disk to the Macintosh HD. Disk util looks like:

I know I can just create a backup of the macintosh HD, another image of the bootcamp disk, and format the disk and start over, but I am hoping there is an easier way to go about this; considering there has been a method engineered such that I can just drag that corner of the mac HD and voila I have instantly more storage after applying, it seems viable that there is something that can be done rather than formatting my disk, unless the necessity for that of course was overlooked.

PowerPC :: Beeping On General Use And Start Up

Aug 14, 2006

Every once in a while my PowerBook beeps. One of those short beeps you hear on old DOS computers when they boot up is the best way I can describe it. I thought at first it was my PC since it has a built in speaker than can only beep, but I've heard it in many places from my laptop. When it beeps it beeps at different times: sometimes once during just general computer use, sometimes just once during startup. what to make of this? If the beeps were becoming more frequent I'd say it was a countdown to the explosion of my PowerBook, but so far they just seem to occur once or twice a month.

OS X :: MacBook Runs Slow In General

Feb 11, 2009

My MacBook is from the Summer of 2007, so its not the newest one but the last model, a black one. Basically, it just runs slowly. Sometimes i'll boot it up and just dragging icons can be really choppy and opening files or just double-clicking the Mac HD icon will cause that spiral of colors to pop up. It isn't always super slow but I would say that my mac is a lot lot slower than it was in the first 6-8 months I owned it. It has 1gig of memory and it isn't like I have lots of programs running at once (if i was i would understand it being a bit slow) My guess is just from going to websites, cookie build-up, maybe the hardware is just againg, pop-ups, pornography, or whatever is just causing it to slow down. I'd like to not have to reinstall the os and i'm at school anyways so i dont have the disc for that. Any idea what I can do?
