OS X Technologies :: Use Applescript To Access The Volume Setting "input Level" In System Preferences?

Apr 14, 2012

I want to make a script that adjusts the output volume of my mac based on the volume that the mic hears. I am not very good with applescript, but I do know how to control the volume. I was wondering if there was a command that retrieved the input level from the mic as it is show in the sound preferences in the system preferences window.

OS X Technologies :: Any Way To Detect Current Volume Level Using Command?

May 7, 2012

I can change the volume level from the command line using this command, For example: osascript -e 'set Volume 3'. Is there a way to detect the current volume level using a similar command and a way to assign it to a variable? And just for good measure, are there similar commands for detecting and setting the current balance?

OS X :: Setting The Default Headphone Volume Level?

Nov 19, 2008

I normally have my MBP on full (or mostly full) volume, but when I plug in headphones, I drop it down to the absolute lowest (or one up from that) level. Anything higher than that is deafening with my headphones. Normally my MBP automatically dropped it down to about that level whenever I plugged in headphones, but recently its only been dropping it down to the halfway point. This causes momentary deafness as I hit play on my iTunes, forgetting its only halfway down, and additional deafness from the clicking as I frantically hit Fn-F4 to lower the volume. Is there a way I can set the default level that OS X drops the volume to when I plug in my headphones?

MacBook Pro :: Setting Initial Volume Level For Headphones?

Jul 9, 2010

The volume level for the built-in speakers is remembered across boots, but it is not remembered for headphones.

I.e. Whenever I plug in the headphones after a boot, the volume level sets itself to 50% - too loud for my ears and possibly damaging to the headphones.

Anybody know of a way to change this behavior? - To set an initial volume level for headphones?

I have OSX 10.5.6.

OS X Technologies :: How To Access An Application That Bundle With AppleScript

Apr 19, 2012

I'm creating an AppleScript application bundle that relies on a separate application. I want to add this application to my bundle and then call it via "tell application xyz ... end tell"

So far I have been unable to make AppleScript see this application, except when I gave it the absolute path of where it is located. Obviously, as soon as my application bundle is moved to a different directory this will not work anymore so is not a solution. Tinkering with "path to me" and thus creating the current path to the bundled application also does not work, when saving the script, ScriptEditor tries to find the application and see if the commands I want to tell it exist btu fails and consequently does not save.

I tried putting the application into the Contents, Contents:MacOS, and Contents:Resources folders, all without success.

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Can't Mute After I Adjust Sound Volume In System Preferences

Feb 8, 2012

I watched a video and it was very loud so I went to System Preferences and turned the sound down. But now I can't mute by clicking the F9 button as I normally can. I can mute by going to System Preferences but I don't want to do this. Before I changed the volume in System Preferences, the keyboard keys worked fine for volume adjustment. I could make it quieter, louder or mute.I have tried with checking and not checking the option to display volume on the screen (in System Preferences).

OS X :: Non-System Volumes Are Locked Can't Access Volume?

Sep 14, 2010

Previous History: I'm on a MacPro and I have my main user account on another volume than my system. This has worked just beautifully for me over the past years, sometimes there are drawbacks and it's kind of more failure-prone in some cases. This 'some cases' now happened again: there was a blackout and after that I couldn't login to my user account on the non-system volume anymore. I've been there once and hadn't any problems fixing it somehow, but now I screwed up big time.

OS X :: Universal Access Has Bigger Font Size In System Preferences?

Aug 9, 2009

I am new to the "mac world" ... just got my first macbook about a week ago so this question may have a very simple answer or it may not.

The issue I have is that in System Preferences, "Universal Access" has a bigger font size than any other window under S. Preferences. Nothing is affected, everything works well, but it just bothers me, is there any way to fix this?

I am attaching a screen of Universal Access compared with a window of normal font size.

Software :: Unable To Access System Preferences / Computer Freezes Up

Jul 9, 2010

The computer is a dual G4 1Ghz with 2Gb of Ram and two hard drives. Used to run a custom built microscope in a scientific lab. Resurrecting it is imperative, as the cards and other equipment are now out of date and replacing the computer and cards would be enormously expensive (and worse, would mean switching to PC).

There are several issues:
-No response to selecting "About this mac" from the apple logo in the upper left.
-No response to selecting restart or shutdown
-The computer freezes up (pinwheel) whenever I attempt to access System Preferences (window will appear however once mouse is over it, pinwheel appears).
-does not recognize the USB key needed to run a piece of software.

-together these issues prevent us from installing the software needed to control the scope.

I've tried reinstalling (clean not archive) the OS on the original HD and a new HD. The problem doesn't go away.Have also cleared out the systempreferences.plist and the cache for both safari and preference panes.

OS X Technologies :: Create Folders And Sort Applescript?

Mar 15, 2012

I am using a script that Jacques Rioux kindly helped me out with a couple days ago. I altered his script a little to complete a different task I needed to create a shortcut for. The script below first creates two folders (TIFF & JPEG) and then it sorts files with an extension .tif into the 'TIFF' folder and files with the extension .jpg into the folder named 'JPEG'. This works great but I would like the script to effect multiple folders. Can anyone help me add to the script so when you click it, a prompt will pop up allowing you to choose multiple folders to apply the script too? As of now it will only work on one folder at a time.
