MacBook Pro :: Setting Initial Volume Level For Headphones?
Jul 9, 2010The volume level for the built-in speakers is remembered across boots, but it is not remembered for headphones.
I.e. Whenever I plug in the headphones after a boot, the volume level sets itself to 50% - too loud for my ears and possibly damaging to the headphones.
Anybody know of a way to change this behavior? - To set an initial volume level for headphones?
I have OSX 10.5.6.

Jan 19, 2009When I'm in iTunes on my MB I want it to be loud but I cant. iTunes and OSX doesnt allow me to raise the volume as much as I want to. But when I'm in VLC I can raise the volume reaally high.

Jun 2, 2010I have been working on a project in iMovie for a few days, and it has been working perfectly. Today, I opened up my project and I could not play the project (the red line would move, but no picture would show up in the upper right hand corner box) and ALL of the options in the "share" tab were gray and unable to click them. Many options in the "edit" and "file" tabs were unable to be clicked as well.
Another project i completed months ago is working perfectly. The clips in the events play/show up on the window in the upper right hand corner

Nov 19, 2008I normally have my MBP on full (or mostly full) volume, but when I plug in headphones, I drop it down to the absolute lowest (or one up from that) level. Anything higher than that is deafening with my headphones. Normally my MBP automatically dropped it down to about that level whenever I plugged in headphones, but recently its only been dropping it down to the halfway point. This causes momentary deafness as I hit play on my iTunes, forgetting its only halfway down, and additional deafness from the clicking as I frantically hit Fn-F4 to lower the volume. Is there a way I can set the default level that OS X drops the volume to when I plug in my headphones?

Is there a way to detect the current volume level using a similar command and a way to assign it to a variable? Jan 16, 2010So i've recently gotten in the uploading to YouTube craze with my Flip Mino HD but i'm not too happy at the way i've been doing this and am hoping there is an easier way.
As of late i've been importing what i film into iMovie. In iMovie i'll edit the video to my liking. In iMovie i'll "export" to the media browser so it'll show up in GarageBand. Then i'll open GarageBand and edit my film further, dealing with sound; adding music. After that i'll export it as a .MOV to my desktop. Then i'll open iMovie again and import that .MOV file and from there in iMovie will have it upload to YouTube in its original HD format.

Because my Macbook doesn't have a firewire port, I'm planning to use my friend's iMac to import the footage onto my external hard drive (ie select the hard drive from the pop-up menu on the import sheet as recommended here. Once the footage is on my external hard drive will I have to do the editing on the iMac, or can I edit it in my Macbook? The 2nd option is preferable as I can then do the editing at home instead of at my friend's place. If that's possible, how do I import it into the macbook? And also, my friend's iMac has iMovie '08, I have '09 - does that matter?

Sep 9, 2007I have home movies which seem to all be in mpeg2 format. I would like to open them in imovie to edit and burn new dvds. At an Apple store I was told I needed QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback to read the mpeg2 format. Under the FAQs for MPEG-2 Playback, it says to export to mpeg4 (?) I need to use QuickTime Pro.
My question is, do I need both QuickTime Pro and MPEG-2 Playback? I don't want to plunk down $50 unnecessarily. How do these work together to get my mpeg2 files into imovie? Is there an easier route to do this?

Jan 21, 2009have been making movies with imovie for the past few years. Today I imported from my camera, could see the clips moving in imovie when being transported, but when I tried to edit the clips, all I could get was a screen frozen with a picture, no movement, but could hear the sound. Then when I tried to open an already saved imovie (that had already been burned to iDVD successfully), the same thing happened.
MacBook Pro :: Java Timing Out On Website - OS X 10.6.8
Feb 22, 2012I am unable to access a medical website I go to for diabetes monitoring. I have had this problem before. When I access the site the java icon displays and is cycling, then times out. I checked for Macbook updates last evening and installed updates. I searched for Java for Mac 10.6 and installed that. Tonight I figured out how to clear my java cache. Still cannot access the site. I've spent probably 6 hours trying to figure this out - no luck. I had exact same issue in November and was able to fix it by reinstalling Java.

Jul 28, 2010So from what I understand my 2 month old MBP is supposed to have a 10 hour battery which is a stretch! I would say 5 hour battery at best, which is great and I am not complaining but 10 hour eh? Is that while the computer is sleeping?

Jun 22, 2012I'm having a periodic problem where my network will timeout. Once that happens, I'm unable to connect to the network again by choosing the network. When I run the diagnostic, only the Wi-fi light is green. If I use the assistance, it tells me the password is incorrect even when I know it's correct. I will always connect for a second or two before timing out or being told the password is incorrect. If I purposefully type the password wrong, I'm immediately told it's wrong without the hesitation of connecting for a second. Does anyone have any ideas of what is going on? I eventually get connected but only after going through a laborious process of either created a new network or deleted all the Wi-fi information. Even then, the process is temporary.

OS X :: DSL Keeps Timing Out?
Jun 24, 2009Well for the last year I have been having problems with my DSL Internet, everyone once in a while (it accually happened when I was typing this post ), the internet will just go out, I will get no response and the internet light on my modem with go out, when it goes out it stays out for about 28 seconds, most of the time its about 28 seconds exactly but sometimes it can go out for 10 seconds and other times I can go out for a few mins.
I really don't know what to do, I got Verizon to send me a new modem, I replaced all my filters, and I replaced the phone line into the modem. I called Verizon but I can't recreate the problem for them so they won't send anyone out, last time I called them the girl on the line said it would be a good idea to send someone out then asked me if I had any other problems then hung up .
Do you guys have any ideas about what could be causing this?
OS X :: WiFi Attempted Connection Timing Out On IMac
Nov 29, 2010On startup the WiFi connection symbol initially is full and black and then goes grey with in a few seconds. If I click the WiFi symbol the drop down menu shows my WiFi network which I click put in WEP code but then I get a message after a few seconds that the connection has timed out. All other Macs in the house connect to the WiFi fine.

Nov 11, 2009I am a web designer, I got my first mac a few months ago and its a lot easier to get my work done now! I register my domain names via Godaddy.com and things have been fine until a few weeks ago, I started work on 2 new websites at 10am this morning, it is now 16:04 and I still have not managed to register the domains! The godaddy website keeps timing out, it works fine on my partners windows laptop, but it times out nearly every time on my Mac Mini, this is both on Firefox and safari.
Normally if I restart my mac and it will let me register the domains after a few refreshing of the pages. Or sometimes when it keeps timing out in firefox I try in safari and it works for a bit. But today neither of them are working, I got right to the payment page and it wont let me go any further, it just keeps timing out on me. I have cleared my cache a few times and that hasn't made a difference.
