Dec 8, 2014I have several local .mbox files created with the Apple Mail client from 10.6.8 saved "on my Mac" after doing a clean install of Yosemite I am having trouble getting them to import. One is ~5GB the other is ~2.5 GB. a smaller one (66MB) with 300 items fails to fully import (gets only ~170 items).
Is there a better way to force the new mail client to read these or is there another mail program that can read these? These are important emails.

I know a few programs have somewhat similar features, but, even if there is some solution coming out soon, like the new version of office with newer entourage? or leopard mail or even i heard a program like Daylite is similar.

Mar 21, 2009I used to use an old version of Outlook Express on my Powerbook 1400 running OS 9.2. Before I switched to my PB G4 (which a few months ago was replaced by a new MB Pro) in 2003, I archived my Outlook identity as a Stuffit file. The other day I discovered this old archive and thought I'd try to retrieve the message from it. I unstuffed it and the result was an "Entourage Database." Okay, but Entourage will not let me import from it. When I try to use it as the database for Entourage, it needs to be rebuilt, but when it is rebuilt, the file size is reduced from 190 MB to 18 MB and the content is apparently cleaned out. Does anyone know how I can get these old email messages out of this file and into either Entourage or Apple Mail?

Software :: Mail Crashes When Importing Mail Boxes
Jan 6, 2009Yesterday my computer wouldn't start, and I tried everything for many hours, but no solution.. Finally I decided to start over. I booted from install disc and recreated my system from Timemachine.. So i chose the latest full backup option, and after 7 hours of recreating, my mac is back.. Thank you TimeMachine.
Everything works like a charm..

My mail, launched and prompted me to import my mailboxes. So I tried but some of the mailboxes won't import.. Mail Crashes when I try.
Any one out there who knows how to retrieve these mail??
It is 2 INBOX.mbox and 1 Sent.mbox.

Jan 31, 2010Is there away to import mail account settings from Thunderbird and/or Outlook Express into Mail? [that is mail.app, to help any one searching later on as Mail is too common a word to search for]. I've imported all my messages correctly but don't know how or if it's possible to import my account settings. Also: I'm in the process of migrating all my e-mails / mail accounts / settings and mail rules from Outlook Express to Mail [Mail.app]. I have successfully got all my e-mails across. I have also managed to convert all the e-mail addresses in the 50+ mail rules, as stored in the Windows registry, from hex into text.
Some of my rules have tens of e-mail addresses which if I had to add in each address separately would be a nightmare. Is there away of block adding in e-mail addresses to Mail? Also is it possible to manually edit the mail rules preference file(s) and insert the e-mail addresses into that? I'm aware I have to manually recreate the rules themselves but that's not so difficult. It's the adding back in of all the e-mail addresses that might be, given the large number that exist.

Feb 1, 2010Is it possible to use both AND and OR rules with Mail's [mail.app] mail rules? For example in Outlook Express I have a rule which says should: the message body contain ANY of the following words:
one
two
three
four
AND the account is <insert account name here>
THEN move to <insert folder name here>
However on Mail there seems to only be the option for ANY or ALL and if I apply ANY then it will also move all mail from any account which has the words one, two, three or four, not just from the account I supplied. In additional all other e-mails from the account supplied will be moved as well, even if they don't contain those words.

When I double click on it, i do not see it in my calendar - neither to accept or refuse.

Feb 1, 2007First attempt: took copy of "Mail" folder from "Library" folder, and copied it into MacBook's "Library" folder. Opened Mail, and my minor folders (4-5 mail folders with no more than 100 messages each) appeared OK; no sign of my inbox mail (1,300 messages), or sent mail (2,500 messages).
Second attempt: discarded "Mail" folder from above. Ran Apple Backup to restore Mail files. Selected over-write everything option. Same results as above.
Final Cut Pro X :: File Naming Scheme Change When Importing AVCHD Files
Jul 1, 2014After updating to 10.1.2 it seems that FCPX now uses a different file naming scheme on imported AVCHD files.
Previously on import, it would use a file naming scheme based on date ie. '2014-06-14 10_49_47 (id).mov' etc. which is great for me as I could see exactly what date & time that clip was created at a glance in the event viewer, also when a camera on a shoot had it's time out by an hour due to an incorrect daylight saving setting, I could use easily go through the clips tweaking the time in the file name & then they would show in the correct order in FCPX.
Now 10.1.2 just imports the clips using the useless file naming scheme of 'clip #1.mov' etc ...
Any way to get FCPX to import using the old naming scheme - or am I now boned if I have a camera set incorrectly ...
Applications :: Which Is Best - Mail Or Outlook?
Dec 28, 2010I'm moving over to a iMac from PC in the next week or so (well will be putting in the order then) and already have decided that I need Office for Mac for Word and Excel (I use my home computer to do some work stuff on it - i find it easier than using the work laptop).
Anyway, I'm wondering if if i should get "professional" version of Office which also includes Outlook or if I should stick with Mail and therefore only get the "home / student" version of Office.
I've read on these forums that there are issues with Outlook syncing, but for what I have read this is via iTunes. So is there still the same problems if syncing via mobile me? Being able to sync using Mobile me is a big thing as I share calendars with my partner.
For what I have read, Mail is just emails and there are other apps for contacts and Calendars - do the three interact seamlessly and sync using mobile me.
I also understand that to get my old Outlook emails onto my new iMac and readable with Mail I will have to use a app to convert them - which seems to be no biggie according to those who have written about it.
So, my main concerns / questions are:-
-For those of you who have converted from Outlook to Mail - was it worth it, or would you have preferred to still be using Outlook;
- If I were to stick with Outlook, does it sync using mobile me;
- Does having 3 separate apps (Mail / Contacts / Calendars) work, or is having all 3 in one better.

Sep 18, 2009This is very likey a simple fix, so I appreciate your help in advance and your bearing with me. On my iMac (10.5.8) I use mail.app to read my gmail account. On my Dell netbook (Windows 7) I use Outlook. Pretty standard stuff. But when one app downloads the message from the server, the other app doesn't. This is a major problem because I need to consolidate my emails all the time. Outlook has "Leave a copy on the server" checked and mail.app has "Delete from server" unchecked. Other than this, the gmail account functions perfectly in both apps.
