OS X V10.7 Lion :: Address-book Doesn't Work After Update To 10.7.3 PB Says Address-book Is 5.0.3
Feb 11, 2012
Address-book doesnt work after update from Snow Lepard to Lion 10.7.3 PB says your address-book is 5.0.3. PB says You have adressbook 10.5.3, yes, but now?
Anyone can help? I bought a Macbook pro last weekend, but when I try to use the mac mail,I cannot find any way to input an email address.
1、update my gmail contacts to the macbook addressbook
2、Synchronize the local addressbook to icloud
3、Open the mac mail, and then create a new mail
then comes my problem,no matter what I type , the address has never show. As I know , the correct result should be:1、Just need to type a few main words in the "sent to" column ,os will search the local addressbook and show the corresponding address for user to choose.
how to specify which of several email addresses should be used for a member of a group. It starts by selecting the menu item "Edit > Edit Distribution List." From there it explains how to select the desired address for a specific person. All well and good...
BUT...
Try as I might, doing various combinations of name or group selections in the address book window, I cannot seem to get the "Edit Distributuion List" item to be un-greyed. Effectively, the program is not allowing me to do the edit function I need to do on this one group member.
Am I missing the secret handshake in this process? Why should it be this hard to do this simple function?
Which raises the larger question of "What did Apple do to the Address Book application in general?" This issue is only the tip of my iceberg. The whole app seems to be harder to use than before.

I must be missing something very obvious, but I can't seem to set Address Book to add all new contact info as "Work" entries.I have to edit every new entry and change all the fields from "other" to "work." This appears to happen when I "grab" phone or email info from an email message.

If I upgrade Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion (on a 2009 MacBook 5.2), is the update limited to OS X or can I also expect to see upgrades to free apps like Address Book, Mail and iCal? If the free apps do not change to match the latest versions available, can I expect updates to the free apps soon?
I am running Address Book 5.0 on Snow Leopard on one machine, and want to share my contacts on another machine running OSX10.4.11, Address Book v4.0.....can this be done?
Has anyone got Address Book/iSync working with Exchange 2003? I've followed all of Apple's steps to enable Address Book's synchronization with Exchange, and I manually force iSync to sync with Exchange.
I used to get an "iSync couldn't connect to Exchange" error, but after resetting iSync's history, now I get no error message. In my exchange server's log, I do see the entry:
so it's obviously connecting to exchange, but does not populate the address book. It's pissing me off and some blog entry with a workaround at [URL] makes absolutely no sense (and only works on Panther according to the comments.. I'm running OS X Tiger).
Edit: I should also note I've tried the following:
1. Disabled SSL and tried syncing - no dice
2. Tried syncing with my OWA server at work - still no dice
New entries in the Address Book on my MacBook Pro do not show up on my iPhone and iPad. Changes to existing contacts do! Who understands what's going on and what to do to remedy this?
i had some groups set up on my Mac Pro address book and they where syced with Icloud and my Iphone. just a few days ago i noticed that the contacts from A to J in each group are missing. I corrected this on the Macbook Pro but it did not change on Icloud or my I phone. how do i get my changes in my address book to update on Icloud?

I've got a problem with my address book that seems a little more complicated than I know how to solve. I opened my address book today, and it doesn't show any of my contacts. I also can't create contacts (I click on the little plus sign, and nothing happens).
Obviously there's a problem with the registry. What's strange is that I know that the addresses are still all there because they show up in my Skype, and in Facebook import (from Mac Adress Book).
I tried using time machine, but no avail, I also reinstalled Address Book, and nothing happens.
She has 3502 contacts in her Address Book on her OS X Lion 10.7.4 MacBook Air. She has two iPhones. They're both running iOS 5.1.1. She has enabled iCloud on ALL these three devices, using her @me.com identity and appropriate password. She updates Address Book contacts ONLY on her MBA - for sync'ing to her phones - and she does NOT update any Contacts info on her phones in order to have them transferred BACK to her Mac. That's how she prefers to work.
The only way that her Address Book contacts will sync UP to iCloud from the Mac appears to be to select 'All on My Mac' within Address Book, and to Export as vcards to a file on her Mac, and then, in the online iCloud Contacts webpage, to Import that file of vcards. All well and good, but that seems to ignore all her various Groups; everything ends up bundled all into one group. (Perhaps each Group in her Mac's Address Book needs to be separately Exported and then Imported, but surely it shouldn't be as long-winded as that.)
(About 402 of these contacts are not accepted by the online iCloud Contacts, although they seem to fall within the requirements of not being too many, not being too large, etc. But that's a separate problem which I'm still investigating ..maybe the names are formatted incorrectly; I'll keep working on that separately..)
Anyhow: by explicitly Importing all those Address Book contacts into the iCloud Contacts, they then immediately start to get distributed - correctly! - to her iPhones ..but also back into the Address Book on her Mac, thereby DUPLICATING them all in Address Book! (They CAN be seen as SINGLE entries by choosing 'All iCloud'.)
I cannot understand the opaque instructions in all of the iCloud documentation. NONE of the documentation which I've studiously read (online, in System Prefs, in every Help file I can find) seems to indicate a DIRECTION for this iCloud sync'ing. WHERE - if there is such a place - does one specify that contacts should go only UP FROM the Mac, and not BACK DOWN to the Mac?
There seem to be options only to turn ON sync'ing (or off), but not the DIRECTION of sync'ing, or which device(s) take precedence. (..In iTunes - when sync'ing phones to a Mac with a cable - there's a preference to over-write EITHER the host Mac with data FROM a phone, or to over-write an iPhone's data with data FROM the Mac..)
(a) Can one specify a DIRECTION when turning on sync'ing for a device?
(b) With iCloud sync'ing turned ON on a Mac, is there any known reason why Address Book contacts should not send themselves UP to the iCould, instead of having to be manually Imported?
(c) Does one Export Groups individually? ..But what if a name is in more than one Group ..does it get duplicated online in iCloud?
(d) Is there not the intelligence within the iCloud facility for the system to NOT distribute back, or duplicate, contacts to the device which is the SOURCE of those contacts? Should it not do a comparison between iCloud and a device, and then recognise that those contacts already exist on the remote device, and therefore NOT distribute them BACK again to the SOURCE? (..Or am I having too high expectations?..)

Using a G4 IBOOK with OS 10.5.8. Recently converted IBOOK from just my wifes computer to both of us so it is now dual usuage with both of us signing in to our respective files/e-mail, etc. My side has a problem never experienced before. My apple mail system address book has all the names the dock address book does but is missing almost 2/3rd of the actual e-mail addressess. I have tried to redo the dock address book in hopes it would change the "internal" mail book, but to no avail. It id difficult to add a recipient to an outgoing e-mail via the dock address instead of the apple mail address book.
My Ti Power Book finally died after 13 yrs service. I bought a new MacBook Pro 15" last month, running 10.5.8. I have a full backup of the old computer on an external drive and I connected it to recover some of my data. When I tried to open the old Address Book (V 4.0) it told me this version will not work on the new PB. Is there any way to open this or print it out??
Snow Leopard 10.6. Address Book SELECTIVELY allows deletion of a multiple contact entry. The updating of the contact database, as as function of the installation of Snow Leopard, produces/creates/brings to your attention, multiples of some contacts that did not exist prior to the upgrade. Most duplicates or triplicates you cannot delete. Some will allow you to delete one but not the other. You can delete them using MobileMe or on the iPhone but not by using the Address Book.
my address book does not open or work (don't think it ever has but I never tried). I select it from the applications menu directly but it just appears like blink and then it's gone. I can't save any new ichat buddies or do much of anything.
I'm not a newbie but I've never had this kind of problem before.
Thinking about getting mobileme but it will be useless without address book.
I am experiencing a funny behaviour with Address Book. In First and Last name field if for eg: I have Robert Brown, the system adds either again a Brown or part of his email address. I don't know how to resolve this issue.
For some reason my safari, address book, mail and software update keep crashing, l have re-installed them form my snow leopard disc and still same thing. Should l be considering a fresh install again or is there a way to fix this withouth this long process?
Address Book in Lion was working for me initially, but at some point within 10.7.2 and into 10.7.3 it began to malfunction. It shows all the addresses. If I search, it ignores this completely. If I single click on an entry, it does not show the details of that entry, but still displays the first entry details. If I double click the entry, a new windows pops up with the actual details for that entry. I have tried deleting the db and various pref files to no avail. Sync with iCloud is enabled.
My Address Book won't open on my IMAC- It worked this morning but I must have hit something to hide. I tried right click on icon and have tried - show all windows, Options, Hide and Quit. When I click "show all windows" the last address I was viewing pops-up, but once I click on the window, it immediatly disappears.
Version 6 of address book is difficult to work with and missing a few important features, especially a logical presentation in columns of groups, names and details. How can I get ver 5 back?
Info: MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.3), I am keeping OSX 10.6.8 on my iMac
How do i restore my Address Book ? When i press on the icon of Address Book on my desktop this shows up - " you can't use this version of the application Address Book this version of Mac OS x. You have Address Book version 6.
